Watch for it - Maurice Taylor (merged)

Ya Mo Taylor also said he is refreshed to be out oy NYC and to make a long story short it was just crazy there and he is also looking forward to being cheered after being booed for the last year and a half in NY.

Blech. Our backup center's career high in rebounding is 6.5. Quick...someone name me a worse rebounding power forward or center.
Maybe it won't be all bad. It could mean there's a trade on the books for KT.

This is great

Another tweener softie that doesn't rebound or blocks shots. I will be pretty pissed off if this means that player like Justin Williams misses out on a roster spot because of it

I'm confused...You complain about Mo's rebounding, then wish for the player who's probably gonna average a team high in rebounds next season to get traded?

...But yeah, Petrie isnt exactly wowing us this offseason. The last big move he made was Peja for Artest...And he didnt even want to make that trade, the Maloofs forced him to...So is Petrie trying to get fired or something?

I remember when Webber used to torch Mo Taylor. He's had some decent games against us too in the past. I'm not terribly excited by this move but it gives us more depth and Mo might have something to prove. that's all one can hope for. Welcome Mo.

I'm diggin NewMoney's take. Even though KT puts up way better numbers. Reef should definately have the start and Old Mo back him up, trade KT's "me me me" attitude.

Just woke up and saw this. I wish - I hadn't. Ruined my day. Instead of getting rid of KT - we aquired his "twin brother". It will be a long season but it won't be boring

Probably a minimum contract for a back up big who can play both the 4 and 5 and has been in the league for awhile.......not really that big of a deal. Anyone remember last year when he torched us for 21 pts. and 12 rbs??????

Kenny's problem is attitude (and size), not ability. I would have much preferred they pick up someone who can't shoot a lick and who rebounds and blocks shots like crazy. Etan Thomas, Joel Pryzbilla, guys like that. Heck, I'd trade either Taylor or KT for Brian Skinner.

I have no use for soft bigs. And accordingly I have no use for Mo Taylor.

That said...people might be underestimating him a bit. He IS soft. Oh man is he soft. But he at least used to be a talented scorer (needs to find his game soon though or he's out of the league) who once scored 17+ pts in a season. And he's only 29, meaning his decline might be more attached to people tirign of his one-dimensional act (except us -- we dig one-dimensional ;) ) than necessarily a steep decline.

Just for comparison:

Mo Taylor, career:
25.3min 11.3pts 4.7reb 1.2ast 0.4stl 0.5blk

Tim Thomas, career:
26.2min 11.9pts 4.0reb 1.4ast 0.8stl 0.3blk

Now of course the fact that I am comparing him to a skinny soft SF says miles about Mo and what he brings to the table, 6'9" 256lb body or not. But still, if we had picked up Tim Thomas, people would probably feel pretty good about it no?

Think the larger issues are that a) he is soft; b) we are already overstocked with tweener softies thx; c) has often had an attitude; and d) he is SOFT. There is some offensive talent there though, or was. But what the heck do we do with it?

Some other comparisons:

Corliss Williamson, career:
23.1min 11.3pts 3.9reb 1.2ast 0.6stl 0.3blk

Darius Songaila, last year:
21.4min 9.2pts 4.0reb 1.4ast 0.6stl 0.3blk

We just keep up picking up the same player, over and over again. Which might indicate that the real issue may be that there is somebody else who is soft: the GM.

P.S. As an aside, interestingly (or frighteningly) he is also yet another career loser we have picked up -- 9 seasons, 9 trips to the lottery.

Yeah, he's soft. He can't rebound. But still, this opens up some more trade potentials, and at least he can play decent defense. He's a pretty good player, I see this as a no-brainer. It's obviously not a long term solution, but the Kings have had worse stop-gap players.

Guys...i have to agree with VF21 when she says that she can see Petrie making a run at KG (by the trade deadline this year). Our roster is essential the BEST fit for Minny, KG and the team KG goes to.

Roster BEFORE deal:
C: Brad Miller, Loren Woods, Vitaly Potapenko
PF: Shareef, Kenny, Mo
SF: Artest, Corliss, Amundson
SG: Martin, Garcia, Douby
PG: Bibby, Salmons, Hart

We give up who for KG??

Brad Miller
Kenny Thomas
Corliss Williamson
Vitaly potapenko
Jason Hart
A couple 1st rounders(07) (09)?

They get a very good front court. and expirings along with 2 picks to replace from previous transgressions...

We get
KG
Jaric
Madsen

That makes the Taylor signing even MORE prudent as it adds EXPERIENCED frontcourt depth to our roster and that deal would allow us to maybe pick-up a player like Justin Williams mid-way through the season with the additional roster spots being added after the deal.

Roster AFTER deal:

C: SAR, Woods, Justin Williams*
PF: KG, Taylor, Madsen
SF: Artest, Garcia, Amundson
SG: Martin, Salmons, Douby
PG: Bibby, Jaric, Price*
*Re-signed after deal. They have the benefit of knowing the system because they were here for training camp.

That really doesn't buy you KG.

But things along the lines of Brad/Bibby + enders for their bad contracts might.

Or just as likely a Brad/SAR or Brad/Kenny or Bibby/Sar or somesuch combo with enders and picks thrown in. Probably one of our kids too.

In any case -- sure, I somewhat agree. We have a depth of mediocrity, which should we suddenly and unexpectedly find ourselves with a KG/Artest kickass pairing could be sufficient to fill in around the edges. If Bibby were swapped, Salmons might be a better fit as a roleplayer starting alongside Artest/KG than a backup behind Bibby. Should SAR, Brad, Kenny or all of the above get moved in such a megadeal, a Mo Taylor would be a good enough fill in for a backup behind KG for a year. Should we need to burn one of the kids to land him, there's more where that came from. So yeah, we remain one of the teams out there that could pay for KG and still have enough left to think about a serious run with what's left filling in around the All-Defense forward pairing. But we're not alone in that aspect, and just as likely we are piling up said mediocrities in light of failing to land an impact guy. And heck, we were actually in BETTER position to do that while the Bonzi chip was still in play. Not saying it cannot happen. Not saying I don't hope it happens. Just saying that likely as not what you see is what you get.

I think i might be the only one who won't want KG, because for 1... the Wolves are gonna ask for Ron Artest. and 2nd of all we're gonna lose alot of our core players just to add 1 superstar whos slowing down.

I don't want him either but it's just because I hate KG.

Welcome to the team Mo! I don't mind this move so much. If you can pick up talent like him that cheap, you just have to.

I can see him playing C just fine. He is a 6'9" guy that is really built more like a 6'11" guy. I just hope this doesn't spell complete doom for Lou or Justin.

He's a 6'9" guy who plays like a 6'5" guy is what he is. He's really a SF with muscles. Has to be more to being a center than just looking strong. In fact normally the first two traits you look for in a C is rebound, and block shots. And then there is Mo. Its like having Darius play C.

The question is where/how?

On the one hand, you really can't fault Geoff for picking up a Mo Taylor at this point, assuming its for peanuts, because he is a proven scorer in the NBA. But he might also be the single softest excuse for a "big" in the entire league (and yet another 4/3 combo rather than the desperately needed 4/5), valued so highly even the Knicks don't want him. If not the softest, then he and Raef might be chasing each other's skirts to see who wins the honor. And so now, you come onto a team with Brad, and SAR and Kenny and...where/what does he bring that is new? Who's minutes does he take? Perhaps they can all get together and have a soft-off where they engage in a vicious pillow fight until the one who cries for his mommy last gets dropped from the rotation? When you have a Mo Taylor with career averages of about 4.5rebs and 0.5blks in 25mpg ideally he'd be the designated finesse/scoring softee on the frontline, and provide change of pace. But what happens when they are ALL finesse players?
That's so funny Brick and kind if sick at the same time for all those guys to have a pillow fight. Are they going to paint each others nails too??? :D

If he's at vet min it might be worth it just to have him sitting on the bench.

It gives us some reserve in the front court. At least he's been around for a while. If Miller is in a slump we go to SAR at C, but if SAR spends time playing behind Brad you limit his time at PF, you certainly couldn't start him if he is the reserve Center. At least you don't have to rely on Woods if he isn't cutting it.

I suspect we don't see a lot of Taylor unless something really bad happens.
He's insurance.

It probably does, which is what I hate the most about this signing. With Taylor on the team we now have 15 players under contract. If we want to keep either one of these guys, we would have to waive someone. Hart would be ideal but he is the only traditional PG we have, Woods is our only 7 footer.
