Huh...well...this solves nothing, but again when you are talking about big #4 being Loren Woods, Vitaly Potapenko, Louis Admundson or Justin Williams, well, Mo Taylor doesn't sound that bad. At least, in theory, he belongs in the league (being released by the Knicks might well dent that theory though).

God, even Jerome James averaged more blocks than Taylor---more than double!!! The funny thing is Jerome James averaged only .51 blocks per game last season...

Kings sign Maurice Taylor

October 3, 2006

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- The Sacramento Kings signed veteran forward Maurice Taylor on Tuesday.

Taylor, who spent the past 1 1/2 years with the New York Knicks, averaging 6.3 points and 3.4 rebounds last season. He has also played for the Los Angeles Clippers and the Houston Rockets in a nine-year NBA career.

Kings coach Eric Musselman expects to use Taylor as a backup center behind Brad Miller.

"We look forward to having him provide us with some additional depth, flexibility and veteran experience on our front line," said Geoff Petrie, the Kings' president of basketball operations. "We think he'll fit in really well."

A little too well unfortunately...

The question is where/how?

On the one hand, you really can't fault Geoff for picking up a Mo Taylor at this point, assuming its for peanuts, because he is a proven scorer in the NBA. But he might also be the single softest excuse for a "big" in the entire league (and yet another 4/3 combo rather than the desperately needed 4/5), valued so highly even the Knicks don't want him. If not the softest, then he and Raef might be chasing each other's skirts to see who wins the honor. And so now, you come onto a team with Brad, and SAR and Kenny and...where/what does he bring that is new? Who's minutes does he take? Perhaps they can all get together and have a soft-off where they engage in a vicious pillow fight until the one who cries for his mommy last gets dropped from the rotation? When you have a Mo Taylor with career averages of about 4.5rebs and 0.5blks in 25mpg ideally he'd be the designated finesse/scoring softee on the frontline, and provide change of pace. But what happens when they are ALL finesse players?
shouldn't that be first, who cries first, i mean the last guy is the one i wanna keep. unless this is a trade i cant really see anyone out there who would markedly improve our team, so i still think when it comes inside shotblocking rebounding were boned.

edit: nevermind

Well good to know this guy might be the news we are all reading about... i dont mind Salmons... lets see what he can do.... but what in the world are we doing at the PF and C spots??? the only thing that makes me happy is if we got a Sammy D. type of Back up Center... but really why dont we just trade for Sammy D. from the sixers... i would take him anyday...

Scrubs never light up other teams like they light up the Kings... I'm reasonably sure that we lead the league in scrubs setting a career high against us over the past several years.

Well Mo is nothing to get excited aobut but the contract is probably so cheap it was a no brainer to pick him up. Now it the plan is to play him at center that is a different kind of no brainer.

Man, I'd rather see Justin Williams as 3rd string 5 behind Woods then this guy...Does Petrie have something against bigs who rebound and play D?

Taylor has offense to offer, thats why we picked him up. I will zone out every time i see Taylor playing center because no good can come out of it.

Good grief, people. You guys jump off conclusion cliff like lemmings...

I don't think anyone has said he's gonna play center.

P.S. Sac.Kings - Rockmeister is right. I wasn't mad. ;)

I was not expecting this. What do y'all think about it?

SACRAMENTO, CALIF. – The Sacramento Kings today signed free agent forward Maurice Taylor to a contract, it was announced by Kings’ President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie. Per club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
“We feel fortunate to add Maurice to our roster,” explained Petrie. “We look forward to having him provide us with some additional depth, flexibility and veteran experience on our frontline. We think he’ll fit in really well.”
Currently entering his 10th NBA season, Taylor spent the past one and a half seasons as a member of the New York Knicks where he averaged 6.3 points (.468 FGs, .699 FTs) and 3.4 rebounds through 67 games last season (2005-06).
“The addition of Maurice gives us an experienced veteran who can make open shots and play both the four and five,” said Kings’ head coach Eric Musselman. “We’ll probably look to him to contribute more at the center position.”
Selected after his junior season by the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round (14th overall) of the 1997 NBA Draft out of the University of Michigan, Taylor spent three seasons with the Clippers. He earned NBA All-Rookie Second Team honors in 1997-98. His best statistical campaign occurred during the 1999-00 season when he averaged 17.1 points (.464 FGs, .711 FTs), 6.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 62 games, of which he started 60 for the Clippers. Taylor led the Clippers in scoring for two straight seasons (16.8 ppg in 1998-99 and 17.1 ppg in 1999-00). He has amassed career averages of 11.2 points (.467 FGs, .712 FTs), 4.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists over 522 games and has averaged double-figure points five times, including each of his first four seasons.
The Kings are Taylor’s fourth team. He signed with the Houston Rockets as a free agent on August 25, 2000 and played five seasons in Houston before being traded to the Knicks on February 24, 2005 in exchange for Moochie Norris, Vin Baker and a 2006 second round pick.
Taylor averaged 12.9 points and 6.1 rebounds over his three-year career (97 games) at Michigan. He was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 1994-95 and started all but four of his 97 career contests. Taylor earned All-Big Ten Third Team honors as a junior, helping to lead the Wolverines to an NIT title.

Maybe that's the new strategy -- round up all the scrubs so they can't go off. Force the other teams in the league to beat us only using their best players.

Ha! That'll learn 'em.

As for the Mo Taylor signing... I don't think I can even summon up a sarcastic "woohoo."
