Too bad about the loss but it's summer league so who cares. Not a great first half for Cousins, but he came back strong in the 2nd half and the 4th quarter specifically. Donte Green's defensively looks like a ROOKIE! In fact he was guarding rookies and he was getting burned. I hope Greene's defense gets better because he wont see much playing time if it doesn't. Casspi is making a habit of performing poorly in summer league. I guess he played a little better against Toronto, but he needs to step up his defensive game as well. The Kings Summer League guards all are kinda BLAH. Petrie needs to get a 2 guard with a jumpshot. The Guards the Kings have in the summer league are not consistent shooters, and we do not need any more slasher types. Kings need people that can hit an outside shot, so that Cousins has someone to pass out of the double team to, and Evans has someone to pass out of the double to. I don't think Greene, Casspi, and Garcia are gonna be enough. Beno has a good jumpshot, but it is more accurate when he is driving and creating with his mid range game. Kings need a player who can sit on the 3 point line and fill up the bucket. There are going to be a LOT of open shots available for someone to knock down. I was looking at the stat line for the guards on the Kings Summer league team and UGH! There isn't enough firepower there to stop a stray dog.
OH, before I forget! That GM from Minny who compared Chris FRIGGIN Webber to Darco FRIGGIN Milicic is a total MORON - BUFFOON! Either Khan the Knumbskull is totally out of touch with reality, High on drugs to the point he is unable to differentiate fantasy from reality, or is completely ignorant about NBA Basketball. Kahn is being ridiculed league wide for the STUPID comments he made about Vlade and Chris. Comparing Darko Milicic to Chris Webber is like comparing Yao Ming to Mugsy Bogues! Worse, because Mugsy could play ball! It was an idiotic comparison. Then he had the AUDACITY to compare Milicic's passing ability to Vlade Divac, perhaps the best passing center in NBA History. THEN, KHAN went on to prove his NBA IGNORANCE further, he stated to Webber directly that Darko's slow development in some way mirrors the way Webber's early career. Webber was Rookie of the year his first season. Darko was a bust and was injured most of his early career. HOW does Khan have a JOB as a General Manager in the NBA? A position that demands the ability to access and quantify basketball talent? Requires tact and diplomacy? Requires the ability to have a demeanor that is supportive of the moves you make without being a total homer? Khan should be FIRED after that interview. The Timberwolves owner should have seen the tape of that nationally televised interview and called Khan in for a meeting to fire him the next DAY! The Fact that he is employed as a GM in the NBA is an OUTRAGE! What an embarrassment to the Timberwolves Organization !! Khan, in one fell swoop has explained the boarderline idiotic moves the organization has made since he has been a GM. He is an incompetent BUFFOON! He will more than likely be fired after this season after another abysmal disaster of a season by the T-Wolves, after they allowed all the quality players exodus from the T-Wolves franchise. Losing Al Jefferson is a huge mistake IMHO.
Anyways, the Kings didn't win against the Raptors, but who cares! Just glad to see our young players getting playing time. You can see that Whiteside is going to need a lot of time to put on weight and to work on his footwork. Cousins looks NBA ready, but Whiteside will need seasoning. Still, at 7' and blocking shots, Whiteside will see some action on the court. He will probably spell Dalembert or Cousins when he comes in off the bench. There is a lot to like about Whiteside, and for where the Kings picked him he is a total steal! I am sure more that a few teams had Hassan rated higher that where the Kings were able to snag him! My one worry is that other than Evans, and to a lesser extent Beno, where is the scoring and defense going to come from in the backcourt? Petrie is hopefully looking hard for some backcourt help that wont cost the Kings too much cap room. There have already been several free agents that have signed that could have helped the Kings to compete in the regular season. Petrie is waiting for the best deals, but hopefully he doesn't wait too long. Sure the Kings aren't going to the Finals, but if they want to be competitive in the regular season, they are gonna need a sharpshooting 2 guard and a backup point that can run the point and defend.
