Sunday, Kings-Raptors at Vegas Summer League

looks like douby is going to fit his spark plug role just fine. He doesn't seem to need alot of time on the court to make an impact.

I sure hope that boxscore is just a little more accurate than the last one. I think they hire guys from off the street to do the tallies.

;)

Couldn't tell you there are 4 short white guys and TR Dunn. The one who looks most like Musselman is the summer team coach but have no clue who is who.
That could be the assistant coach Scott Brooks. I read that he's coaching the Summer league.

Thanks for the pbp, cruz. :)

Here's a supplement to Cruz's great game summary from Draftexpress on todays game. No mention of Williams. Hopefully he's playing well enough to deserve a contract as well.

Sacramento 86– Toronto 79
Jonathan Givony

Kevin Martin - Martin once again had no problem showing that being a very good and extremely promising NBA player should and does translate to being a fantastic player in the summer league. He had no problem being the focal part of Sacramento’s offense, taking the go-to role on his shoulders and producing points nearly every time he touched the ball. Martin is far too athletic for anyone here to stay in front of. His first step is lightning quick and he is crafty enough his ball-handling and shot creating skills to get into the paint whenever he pleases. Even though his off-balance floater wasn’t always falling for him, particularly early on, he kept attacking the rim relentlessly and was rewarded for his trouble with numerous trips to he free throw line. Martin enjoys pulling down rebounds and igniting the fast break as well, always looking to push the tempo of the game and being extremely intelligent in dropping it off to the open man after a drive or using the glass to score the points himself. When coming off screens from mid-range, Martin has the craftiness to bait his man in the air and earn two free throws, something he did on more than one occasion.

Just like he’s done in his first two games here, Martin took a bit of a backseat in the 2nd half and let some of his less unheralded teammates take over the spotlight. He still got his points, though, mostly off quick drives and baiting guys into the air for a foul from mid-range.

Quincy Douby - Douby had another very solid overall game. He picked things up in the 2nd half big time, putting the ball on the floor for some and ones, coming off screens from mid-range and the 3-point line, and scoring much like he did at Rutgers. His ball-handling was really on display, using an array of ball-fakes and hesitation moves to free himself up and keep his defender on his heels. Douby has gotten better and better as the summer league has gone on, and with Artest done and Kevin Martin leaving the team to allow the other players to shine, Douby should step up and play a leading role over the next few days. Douby looks like he should be able to crack Sacramento’s rotation next year, especially if he can find a way to add some strength to his skinny frame.

Louis Amundson - Amundson had his typical 100% effort hustling game, and has been rewarded for his efforts here with a 3 year deal with the Kings, with the last two years being non-guaranteed. His first year is reportedly guaranteed to the tune of 75 thousand dollars. What we’ve written here over the first few days says it all about the way Amundson played again today. He is a terror on the offensive glass, works his *** off all game long, plays great defense and scores points just by being in the right place at the right time.

Pooh Jeter - Jeter deserves mention for the way he’s played in all three games of the summer league so far. A player mostly known as a big-time scorer on a mid-major team, Price has come in and shown a very good feel for the game with the way he runs an offense, makes decisions and finds people off the dribble. Jeter doesn’t force the issue the way you think a mid-major combo guard (like Ronnie Price for example…) would. He picks his spots nicely and it’s a shame that we haven’t had a chance to see a bit more of him here. Further helping his cause is the fact that he appears to be an absolute dead-eye shooter from outside, in addition to being extremely quick with the ball in his hands.

So Artest and Martin are finished with SL this year? Can't say I'm too dissapointed, especially considering Cisco's injury. Is it me, or was that Game 2 summer league team better than some of the teams in the NBA?

Why would you say that? I thought Artest was suppossed to be back for the next one, and I must have missed where Kevin is no longer playing? Cisco on the other hand, yea, I think he's done for this summer league.

just read some raptors fans saying kevin's free throws are the result of bad officiating....
this makes me hate those sore losers even more...BEAT RAPTORS!!

I got that impression from the previous article:

Dude, it's summer league. Getting upset over something someone said on an opponent's board after a summer league game is like getting upset over not getting the door prize at the PTA meeting.

;)

i just love winning no matter what:D

Okay, okay... I give up.

I'll give you the hand-crocheted tea cozy from the last PTA meeting.

What is a tea cozy?

Here:

englishteastore_1902_11715032

A tea cosy helps keep your tea hot. The double-thick base helps protect your tabletop and, if desired, can hold a small sachet; the heat of the tea will release the scent. The handle and spout are left exposed so you're free to pour a second cup without removing the cozy.

Ooh, now I get it! Congrats Hanchiho!

But, on another note, I read some similar stuff saying that Martin's good game was a fluke of bad refs. I laughed. Raps fans are freaking out because "Bargs" had a bad game. His second ever NBA game...Big deal.

BOX SCORE Kings-Raptors
Note: don't shoot the messenger but their box score shows 86-79 but their stat sheet shows 89-79.

I got that impression from the previous article:

I think that was just poorly written. I think it meant to say that he let others take over more in the second half. He's still around, just taking a brief background rose to give the others a chance, from what it sounded like.

FINAL OBSERVATIONS

Ronnie Price is the biggest surprise. He looks bigger and is much more aggressive than last year. He takes ball to the paint and base line and is as quick as any other guard. In todays game he made 2 3's, both open shots he should have taken. I for one see him behind Bibby this year. His shooting/scoring are up, his FT's are good and he seems to make good decisions.

Kevin is far more aggressive than last year and goes to the bucket any chance he gets. Get fouled a lot but is hitting 80%+ of his FTs. His fouls were earned with hustle and moxie and going to the bucket. Didn't see much of that from Raptors. Mostly cause a bunch of kings kept getting in the way.

Pooh just continues to make poor decisions and at 5-11 did not have the moxie to score much against even the shorter Raptor PGs. Not much to say about him.

Williams got some good minutes and mostly with Amundson. they did well together and we finally got to see Williams against a top draft choice, which I am sure he knew. His game was all there and no fear and his long arms poking up thru the masses to grab a bunch of hard to get rebounds. Same can be said for Amundson. Williams can put up some jumpers and showed a nice sky hook in the lane.

Taj Gray in only 8 minutes could not show much other than agressiveness and 6 fouls.

Lampley continues to be a mystery. A decent journeyman but hey, this is summer league. I expected to see more from him He had the minutes and showed some flashes of ball handling, jump shots and rebounding. But appeared cautious but maybe was deferring to Williams and Amundson. Which is not what to do get the attention of the coaches. But hey, who am I to criticize play, it all moves so quick it is hard enough to know what you just saw (much less type it.....).

If Yemi (a DNP) was there I did not see him on bench and I was sitting up behind bench whole game. Doesn't mean he wasn't there but I did not see him. Huang and Daghlas were DNP. Don't think these 3 make out of summer league.

Overall the Kings showed back court double teaming on 8-10 Raptor inbound plays. I think 2 or 3 resulted in turn overs but it definitely thru Raps out of their inbound rhythm. Also saw double teaming of key Raptors during game. Both things you never see at the summer leagues as it is tough to do on short notice. Impressive. The overall defense of the Kings was significantly above anyone else at summer league.

Heading south on Monday so any questions will get to them in morning before leaving.

Adios

I like the apparent versatility of Quincy Douby. I'm really looking forward to seeing him actually play. Is one of the Kings games going to be televised? Did I read that somewhere?

However, for the die hard fan, you can buy for $30 a DVD of each Kings Vegas Summer League game from Brandon Powers of CollegeCoachesNetwork.com Phone is (417)496-0608 in Oklahoma or email him at: bpowers@collegecoachesnetwork.com

He is setup at the arena and has the DVDs for each game ready the next day.

Thanks for the TV schedules, jimbodan and CruzDude. I just can't get excited about watching a summer league game 5 days after it happened and I'm certainly not going to shell out $30 for a DVD of one bleeping game.

Guess I'll just have to wait until pre-season to see how things look.

I'll be able to see the Knicks/Kings game tomorrow... 11 EST on MSG.

From the two Knicks games I've seen, they've talked about Ron w/ the Kings coming up for Monday. So, unless it's a last minute deal, I'd say he'll be playing. He just went to a charity game in LA.

I never read on Sacbee he's done. I think Givony just thought he came in for one game and was done.
