Brother if you arent willing to go all in now around fox with Durant, even if its with 3 FRP and carter (steep price, i get it), then just trade fox now. I dont get what package would be ok if your not willing to go in for an elite player in an effort to keep your elite 2 players. And frankly there is no more perfect a player next to fox and sabonis than durant. A guy who allows Keegs tk go back to the 3 and play elite 4s and 3s and be perimeter monster. He is a huge difference from DDR with respect to spacing and positioning.

But honestly if you/the team dont want to go all, in, i can get behind that but then get rid of fox while you can bring back the kind of haul that OKC got for PG13 and Westbrook. But gotta make a decision. If its time to end the Fox era, do it on a high note of getting propper return. Otherwise if you dont go all in now you may as well pack it in. Cuz short of going all in, he is for sure leaving.

And as a counter to your point of Fox leaving, he is under contract next year as well. So you have the luxury of going all in with Durant, Fox, and Sabonis, you will have both Fox and Durant signed through 2025-2026. If you dont think its working both would be good targets to get at least 5-7 picks out of before next years trade deadline.
Then trade Fox, not a single reason to tank the next 5 years if it fails.

I just don't know if you'd get Walker AND Lauri for Domas, but that would be ok value.

Would you rather go Monk+2-3 FRP+probably DC or Keon or Fox straight up for Lauri? That's another angle I'm approaching this from in terms of long-term team building
Well my order of preferences as it relates to UTA trades would be as follows…

1ST PREFERENCE
Malik Monk
Kevin Huerter
Colby Jones
Picks

for

Lauri Markkanen

…that trade leaves us with…

PG - Fox / Carter
SG - Ellis
SF - Murray / DeRozan
PF - Markkanen / Lyles (resigned)
C - Sabonis

That gives us 3 stars all in their prime that fit pretty well together on paper while still having an aging “star” to be our super 6th man. Defensively, we have Ellis, Carter, and Murray to lean on as well as Fox when he decides to dial it up.

2ND PREFERENCE
Domantas Sabonis

for

Lauri Markkanen
Walker Kessler

…that trade leaves us with…

PG - Fox / Monk
SG - Ellis / Carter / Jones
SF - Murray / DeRozan
PF - Markkanen / Lyles (resigned)
C - Kessler

We don’t have the “big 3” that we do in the 1st one, but we still have 4 scorers/playmakers to lean on (Fox, Monk, DeRozan, & Markkanen) and the defense should take a considerably leap since Kessler is an excellent rim protector and can anchor our defense.

3RD PREFERENCE
De’Aaron Fox

for

John Collins
Taylor Hendricks
Cody Williams
2025 UTA 1st

…that trade leaves us with…

PG - Monk / Carter
SG - Ellis / Williams / Jones
SF - Murray / DeRozan
PF - Hendricks / Lyles (resigned)
C - Sabonis / Collins

Hendricks is a near perfect fit next to Sabonis if he lives up to his potential and Williams is a solid wing prospect with good upside. However, with Fox being shipped out, we really need to have a path to bring in another guy who can be a #1 if we want to have a chance at being a top team (I don’t see Markkanen as having that potential). The 2025 UTA 1st should be a very good pick and gives us a solid chance at drafting that type of player or flipping some of our young assets (Ellis, Carter, Williams, Murray, Hendricks, & 2025 UTA 1st) for that type of player in the future.

Not sure im following. Are you saying trade fox now is what you'd want to do? If so i get it, but be all in on the tank or all in on winning. The halfway game has been why we have been Kangzing it up for 16 years. If you are all in on the tank, then trade Fox, Sabonis and trade DDR. for some time so you can bring back young pieces and picks and hopefully turn it around in 2-3 years. You keep Keegs ellis and carter and see what you have there. Hopefully you can return a foundational piece in the cash returns like OKG got with SGA. But picks (like the SGA trade) are the key.

I on the other hand think if you go get a big piece like Durant, who fits the system too, you can get Fox to buy back in. I am in the camp that he will stay if he sees progress, otherwise all the smoke around trading him wouldn't have tamped down so quickly. I just dont know what that trade is, hence why i proposed the Durant route (not saying suns go for it).

Btw, trading Fox may also not be the biggest horror show we may believe. They have been competitive without him and i think with the high number of picks they would get for him (id imagine at least 3 and a young piece) they could retool with sabonis, ddr, monk, ellis, carter, keegan all on the roster and still with huerter and lyles to move.

I was all for Fox over Hali back in the day, but things are what they are in terms of security now. If it's between that and encumbering even more picks/youth, heck yeah I am. Especially on a player that will be 37 next season. You don't punt your future for a 1 year window. If the Kings move Fox they should pivot, not necessarily tank.

I think thats reasonable hence why i added my additional paragraph edit. As i said, you'd likely return 3 picks and a young piece to add to monk, keegz, ellis, carter, ddr, and sabonis. Not a bad core if you are adding possibly 3 additional picks over next 6 years.
