[Game] Nets @ Kings - 11/18/12

Anyone nervous about what the new lineup might be? Are we going small?

Tonight might be the worst night to go small with NJ's backcourt. Then LAL next.

idk what the lineup will be. hard to guess since this team STILL doesnt have a SF that can shoot the ball

but i know some things we can be certain of:
-we will see Tyreke sit on the bench for the whole second quarter and most of the 4th
-we will see IT play less than 22 minutes
-we will see James Johnson miss all his shots
-we will see DeMarcus pouting
-we will see at least 11 kings players get minutes tonight

Reke has to start so he can defend Joe Johnson. Plus Reke is big enough to post up johnson

Salmons/JJ can guard Joe Johnson. if the coach has any brains, he will have Reke guarding Deron Williams. IT/Brooks will get KILLED by Deron Williams......

I'll go with Tyreke - Marcus - JJ - Thompson - Cousins. Basing it off they just had that team meeting so maybe they decided to start their best players... JJ may be replaced by Salmons in my line up though!

exactly what im thinking. and ya, Salmons just because he can space the floor better than JJ so that will ultimately will help Tyreke

Grant tweeted that Brooks and Salmons will be starting tonight ... I'm assuming that is with Evans, JT, and Cousins.

So .. Brooks - Evans - Salmons - JT - Cousins. Not even close to what I would have predicted, but we'll see what happens. I'm not totally sure Aaron Brooks isn't the LAST guard on the roster I would think would work with Evans. Should be interesting.

Salmons has been playing well. He'll have his hands full with Gerald Wallace though ... which is actually a guy Johnson should be able to defend.

well. not gonna be good for our defensive matchups. but if Tyreke has the ball he can find Brooks and Salmons for the shots. we will see how it works. much rather have seen Reke/MT in the backcourt

Yes we are. And have been. No matter what the starting lineup is. Incedently my starting lineup is Cousins for rebounding, Evans and Johnson for defense, and Thomas and Thompson for scoring. Go Kings!!!!!

i think its obvious that lineup doesn't work. unless JJ can magically develop a jumpshot

I get the feeling Smart has just been waiting for an excuse to get Brooks in the line up since the very start.

The poor performances and Brooks first "hot" shooting game gave him the chance.

Doesn't really matter though as no doubt Brooks will go to the bench early and never return.

I'd have gone Reke/MT/Salmons with Jimmer the first guard off the bench as he's outplayed IT and Brooks. Bring in JJ with Jimmer to make sure we can at least try to help defensively.

As an aside, I feel kind of bad for IT. It's pro sports and you're payed to perform, and he's under-performed. That's not my issue. It's more that the Kings PR did him a disservice last year by pumping him up into something he's not. He's not an All Star, not a Nash/Magic hybrid and not a future HOFer. Yet that's what we heard every telecast towards the end of the year. The ROY campaign was out of control. It put so much unneeded pressure and attention on IT. Should have just let him develop instead of all the exaggerated accolades.

I feel sorry for him because i don't believe he's deserved to be dropped.

he was "starting" basically only in name this season, he sat most 4th quarters. He's shot the ball well from deep but has been forcing things, thats likely to happen when you're trying to re-establish your game. This is the first time Smart has had the excuse to drop IT because of Brooks shooting the other night and he's taken it. Clearly he didn't have a modicum of "trust" in IT despite his words.

I think it will help our second team though because IT will get to handle the ball more rather than having a MT/Brooks back court off the bench. Plus, it gives both our starters and bench 3pt shooting rather than our bench only having it. It looks like it's a good move on paper but we shall see how this actually works in game situations.

I am not expecting much but I still think our bench players excel.

Can't say I feel bad for IT. I never felt like he was an NBA starter. I figured Brooks would start going into this season just from an experience level.

As mentioned in the other thread, I actually support this experiment. Get shooters around Reke, let IT be a general off the bench, he and Thornton work well together, JJ and TRob worked well together in preseason. Its worth a shot.

I never really considered either guy an NBA starter. I thought Thomas had the potential to be that, and with Brooks out of the NBA for a season it was hard to tell with him. Neither have played well this season, though.

I'd like Reke, MT, Salmons, JT, Cousins myself .. mostly because Salmons has been a much better role player version of Salmons this season. If this was the Salmons of old it wouldn't work.

Wallace killed Salmons last year. Fortunately it'll probably be Bogans instead.

I agree with everything you said. When Reke was out, and the team had the small winnng streak, IT/MT were working well together. Plus you bring in another defender in JJ and you have energy and hustle from TRob. Well worth the shot indeed.
