More hope...... maybe I shouldn't (Rubio rumor)

he didnt scout him for nothing right? assuming that rubios party DOES NOT want work outs.. and only opts for interviews.. we cant do anything about that.. gp cant hardball the workout or dont get picked... right?

he did say he wanted proven coaches as Head coach.. if that was the case he could have interviewed mitchell, cheeks, etc. yet he still goes for the likes of rambis and westphal one who hasnt coached in almost a decade.. so to speak geoff doesnt actually follow his gameplan exactly to the letter.. he deviates from here and there

The only problem with that line of thinking is that Petrie is on the record as saying that he will never again pick a player that he doesn't work out. He said it last year and we all know once Petrie makes up his mind about something, there is no changing it.

So unless you hear about Rubio working out for the Kings, there is no way in hell Petrie picks him, even if he is there at pick 4.
I don't think that's exactly what he said. I think he said something about bringing them in, not about working them out. The whole quote was in reference to the Gerald Wallace drafting - they knew about Gerald's athleticism, and they must have known his game was raw, but I'm under the impression that the real disappointment to Petrie was some combination of work ethic/maturity issues which went under the radar because Petrie had never sat down and talked with Wallace. I don't think Petrie was bemoaning the fact that he didn't get to look at Wallace's shooting stroke in person there.

it seems the likes of boston, houston and newyork are after rubio. the only key problem for them is

for houston.. who do they give up? a key star player? a promising young man? no way in hell is scola a young promising man... and no way would they give up brooks after what he did in the playoffs...

for newyork if they want to move up that badly they have to swallow a couple of bad contracts. a jaric or a milicic... either will take a big stab at their 2010 dreams..

boston..now THAT could be a threat to our plans they could straight up offer rajon rondo for rubio which can abruptly shatter our plans.. but then again isnt boston a small market? and that that boston trio or quartet still has at least one last shot for the finals?perhaps ainge will remember how we gave him mikki moore and let them shed some salary with cassell :D:D

kings are in good position to trade the 4th.. not only is it a high position, it also guarantees the grizzlies a high end talent of the draft rather than trading for knicks 8, where in harden and the likes are gone.

i just sure hope that we DO acquire this kid

Petrie might have said that, but c'mon, Petrie isn't an idiot. If he has a chance to get Rubio he won't pass it up because Rubio didn't workout for us.

If Rubio is available at 4 the only reason Petrie PASSES on him is if he feels there is a better player on the board, not because he didn't work out.

petrie will talk.. but sometimes you cant make out what he is actually relaying to us fans... i watched one of his press cons in youtube.. and the only message that got to me was when he was talking about a slice of pie!

hes not like chris wallace who you can read like a book..

petrie.. you need to find the cipher, the code book, dodge a couple of illuminatis, stare at the mona lisa and lastly the insignia to open the lock that holds the anagram to decipher what the man is thinking... he is an enigma

And truth be told there probably are players on the board better than him at 4. Call me stupid but all this diva attitude and I won't work for this person or do this is making me start to think maybe dude doesn't think he's good enough or maybe he thinks he's too good? I look at a Holliday a Flynn and all these guys who said look i'm going to compete and let my game do the talking. Those are the kinds of guys I want on my team. Then you have Tyreke Evans who no one will even workout against do you think this is by mistake? Lets be real Rubio is starting to look more like a hype machine than a sure thing. If he doesn't work out I wouldn't pick him and have a fail of epic proportions like a Millicic when I have proven college players right in my face. I'm not the GM, but anything Petrie could have seen in Europe was a small sample and with the college players he has a body of work to judge keep that in mind.

If he didn't have the huge buyout (which he has to pay the majority of himself) there is no doubt in my mind that he'd go to whatever team picked him without a fuss. It has nothing to do with a "diva" attitude and everything to do with him wanting to make a good investment into his future. His situation is not like a guy coming out of college, so it's unfair to criticize his actions as if he were.

Still doesn't explain why he refuses to even workout for a team...

I wasn't talking about that. Has he scheduled a workout with us?? I'm talking about the competing aspect. Here you have all these prospects competing against each other to prove their worth at the 4th pick and maybe even higher and yet Rubio just wants to just interview. He never said he didn't want to play for us where's our workout? My point is how the hell are we suppose to know how good he is against USA talent if he doesn't compete against the top college players. And don't even begin to talk about the olympics. That's a very small sample and he didn't overwhelm there either. We need to see more of him against top talent in this draft. I commend those who are competing against each other. Why won't they do that against Tyreke Evans hmm sneaky suspicion, because he will dominate them.

Evans might dominate them...at a one on one level, which is his game. Which is why people don't want to play into his hands. It would be like Dejaun Blair challenging everybody to an arm wrestling competition. Yeah he could strut around calling them all cowards when they declined, but they are also just avoiding letting him gain ground by choosing the venue of competition. Especially when you are already ranked ahead of those guys in the mocks, no reason to give them any opportuniry to gain on you.

And ditto of course for Rubio. He's already in or near the catbird's seat, so there is no advanatge to him in doing anything that might change that perception. And no that's not the best thing for us or whoever drafts him, but it is solid strategy. Same thing as Thabeet not doing the atheltic portions of the combine -- he's a pretty good athelte for his size, I don't think he would have tested horribly. But his best argument was already made right there on the first day -- 7'2.5" 261lbs. As the unquestioned top center and very likely Top 5 pick, there was just no upside to taking any chances. All of those type things are bad for the employer, but they are basically the same thing as you emphasizing your strengths on your resume while glossing over the time you got fired for looking down a customer's bouse.

Still what bothers me is him not working out and I hate to go back to the Millicic comparison, but I mean it's kind of the same thing. You had a proven Carmelo Anthony and an unknown Euro. I don't want us to go through that we can't afford it. At the same time busts happened in college players and USA talents too. One word Kwame Brown it just gets confusing when a guy doesn't show off his skills against other players. I think that Geoff knows talent and is a great evaluator of it and if he didn't pick Rubio then he didn't buy the hype and didn't think he was the best player or PG I guess we'll see in 2 weeks won't we.

You need to get over the whole "not working out" thing. And quite frankly, you're acting as though our scouts and Petrie have no idea about Rubio's game. That is simply NOT TRUE. They're pretty aware of his strengths and weaknesses, in fact most likely to an incredibly greater extent than we are...

As far as working out against other players, not all pre-draft workouts are 3-on-3 or even 2-on-2. Sometimes a guy will come in all by himself - such as Tyreke Evans - if that's what his schedule will allow.

People are painting Ricky Rubio with a lot of different negative brushes based on media rumors and stuff that they've read on message boards with very little basis in fact.

If Ricky Rubio is that good and he's really what the Kings desperately need, do you honestly think the Kings don't know that?

Rubio comes with a lot of baggage and there are other point guards in this year's draft that just might work out as well. The Kings are going to be looking at a group of them on Friday that will most likely be available to us at the #4.

I love Rubio and have a good feeling about the type of player he'll eventually become but he's young and he's not a guaranteed lock for success in the NBA. Yes, he's flashy and fun and would put butts in the seats but it's a gamble.

Some times it's good to pay attention to what someone is saying. Ultimately some people think Rubio is god and is better than he really is. Others of us like myself are excited about the idea of him, but also have reservations about him and would be happy even if we didn't get him. We have a top 4 pick I think we're all happy to see what happens Rubio or no Rubio.

Sorry. It appears as though you contradicted yourself in your own post.

My point is how the hell are we suppose to know how good he is against USA talent if he doesn't compete against the top college players.
Our scouts can tell a lot more about someone than you apparently believe, based on that statement... ONE workout with a team in a practice facility is not generally going to make a good player look bad or an inferior player look like a superstar.

Still what bothers me is him not working out ...
Again, you're making it appear that without an in-house workout the Kings won't have a clue about his abilities...and again I disagree.

I paid attention to every word you typed. I just don't happen to agree with all of it, and apparently neither do you.

As far as people thinking Rubio is a god and better than he really is, that's the bottom line question. We don't know how good he really is...he's young and he has more potential than I've seen in a very, very, very long time. He could be one of the greatest PG to ever play the game.

That's the intrigue about him - and the chance whatever team picks him will be taking. Will he pan out or will he wash out? That's the real question...

There's some rumors on ESPN that the rockets may grab the No. 2 pick. It's actually quite surprising to me that they would be the likeliest candidate to get it if Memphis is looking to trade.

Well, that would just suck...maybe. Of course, it is ESPN so who knows. Houston could have started the rumors themselves.

:)

They also rumored that if Houston were to grab that pick, they'd be looking more towards Thabeet (what with them having no back up centers). I'd be more worried if the Knicks tried to take that pick, what with his (supposed) interest in New York.

Hmmm that could turn out good for us then. If Houston were to get that pick then a pretty likely scenario would be the Clips taking Griffin, Hou taking Thabeet, OKC taking Harden, and us taking Rubio. I would be very happy with that.

well, they don't really have an answer at the PG position, either, unless they really believe brooks or wafer or lowry are the "PG's of the future." i wouldn't count on that, though...

if houston were actually able to trade into the second pick, it'd certainly be interesting to see who they choose. yao does go down with injury enough to warrant a selection like thabeet, but rubio is a talented enough playmaker to shore up their oft-troubled offense, with respect to the long run...

The difference is that Darko was a very unproven player who had some upside and who played great in workouts. However, Rubio is actually a very proven commodity especially considering his age. He played a major role on the team that barely lost in the finals to Team USA. He was also a top player on one of the top teams in Europe, put up very good statistics and won defensive player of the year. I am less concerned about Rubio than some of the other European busts.

What ever man I'm not going to argue about what I said or what I intended to say. What I'm trying to convey is that all of what people keep referring to is small samples of Rubio where as with the other players we have a body of work to judge as well as the scouts. With Rubio we just don't have that. I'm not saying we don't pick him because of not working out, I think we'd be more leery of picking someone who we aren't as familiar with. Ultimately it doesn't matter GP is the GM he'll pick who ever he wants to pick and who ever he picks we'll have to live with. I just am a littled tired with this Rubio infatuation on draft night people let the dream go since we got the 4th pick and now they are predicating are draft on him and it gets a little annoying. He's not god's gift to basketball. We get him great we don't it might actually turn out to be better who really knows?

Haha and this is the funniest statement I've seen so far. The guy has yet to step into an NBA practice facility much less an Arena and your saying he could be one of the greatest PG to ever play the game. Wow he's not that good. This Rubio man love has to stop. I hope he becomes the greatest PG ever because of my love for the Kings, but at the same time in my opinion I don't see that happening. He's going to be good possibly a star, but he's getting way too much pub and in some ways it's undeserved. He's proving squat don't crown him yet. Because the same people who want him will cry when he struggles and cast him to the wayside and ask to fire GP for picking him. Those same people will also whine if we don't pick him and he turns out to be the best PG ever. Then there's other people who will laugh and point out and I told you so when the player we pick ends up being better than Rubio. This happened last year with Thompson most didn't know who he was and wanted other players how'd that turn out for us? Trust the guy in charge. At the end of the day we are just engaging in conversation that will have 0 impact on who GP picks. It's still fun to talk about this since the draft seems like it's never going to get here.

Exactly so why should you be annoyed when people are talking about drafting the player they hope to draft?

That's one way of looking at it. The other is that Juan Carlos Navarro was far more impressive than Rubio in the Olympics. Yeah, Rubio's 18, but he really has a long ways to go.

Is everything I say going to turn into an argument or be dissected? I mean seriously if you can't see how strong the Rubio love is then your'e entitled to your views. Anything I say however turns into a debate so it is what it is.
