Yeah, stats overall aren't amazing. 21 TOs vs their 8. Especially late into the game, we were nerve-wracking in our decision-making.

You can blame the refs but at the end of the day the KINGS responded to adversity and pulled it out. Huerter is bomb. Fox stepped up. Keegan is solid. Barnes was efficient enough. And the players off the bench did what they needed to do to contribute to a win.

And until they get that counter punch (high middle pick and roll is it), every win could be this difficult against teams that are going to aggressively switch and force playmaking out of your shooters.

Not falling after this one but if other teams watch that 2nd half they have the blueprint to potentially take away much of the Kings offense. Good thing is very few teams play the way the Heat can on defense thanks to Bam.
If the Kings play defense like they did for 70 percent of this game, and cut the turnovers in half, they've got a chance to make some noise in the west.

I would like to point out to the board that said Murray is a Barnes clone that Harrison never scored 22pts in a game in his rookie season. And I would also like to point out Barnes didn't score in double digits for 3 straight games (like Keegan has in his first THREE games) until games 8-11. AND Barnes never had 2 blocks in a game until game 17 of his rookie season.
Keegan does NOT equal the next Barnes. He is better.

yep take the W and Fox’s D was a difference maker including coming back for rebounds.
that said to take the next step Fox needs to kick out from the lane when facing multiple defenders. With the shooters we have teams will either have to stop collapsing or give up a ton of 3’s. Once they stop collapsing then Fox can finish
You can't judge it in five either.
But why look for a fight? Vibe seems to be gratitude for a hard-won victory while acknowledging that there's much to improve on.

This is a sentence I didn't know exist before.
Keegan is playing better D than he showed in the summer and has continued to show a sweet stroke. Not much of a creator, but that's as expected at this point. The one key area where I expected better from him: boards.
1 board in 36 min tonight.
6 in 39 against Memphis.
4 in 38 against the Warriors.
5 in 33 against the Clips.
The Kings are not a god rebounding team right now. He may be chief among the guys who need to pick it up.

Big win in what I thought was a must win
Fox had a very impactful game despite having his first sorta labored offensive game. Had huge defensive possessions and smashed the boards.
Huerter was player of the game. He’s been the best shooting guard the Kings have had in a long time. Efficient. Seems to always make the right play. I remember somebody one here saying losing DDV and adding Huerter was basically a lateral move. Umm nope..
This was, to this point, the biggest glimpse into Keegan Murray as far as him being challenged.
In the second half the Heat started really chasing him off the line. He made a few mistakes but he also didn’t look like a fish out of water after those mistakes. He also didn’t avoid going off the dribble after they forced him into some errors. He didn’t shut down and even made a few positive plays off the dribble after that rough couple minutes where some mistakes piled up quickly. I think that is a part of his game they will easily come along with experience. He’s got the tools. The shot and the size. He’s a smart player. I don’t think he’s a finished product in the slightest bit.
The 22 points from Murray doesn’t even seem like a big deal. So he’s already seamlessly made himself a high double figures starter player by his 4th game. He plays defense. He hustles.
Murray also had a major couple of possessions after the Heat cut it to one. Hit an ice cold three and then got to the line and made the shots. Settled the Kings down and they didn’t look back.
Sabonis had his best performance of the season minimized by the refs rooking him. It’s a shame he doesn’t get any respect. A lot of the stuff called on him is stuff the refs let go one way or another on almost every possession of the game where a foul isn’t called. Atleast a couple per game are pure phantom. One Brown already had to get overturned and they still ran him up. It tells me the refs don’t review their work after the game as commentators always assure us they will. Otherwise Sabonis would’ve started getting the benefit of the doubt some time ago.
Barnes turned a Houdini game into a very good one. Kept the Kings afloat in that third.
Trey Lyles was big. He’s a good player. I think he should be a bit more than a part time player.
the bench in general is still lacking an identity though and isn’t giving us big games. Mitchell is struggling. Monk needs to be a consistent double figures scorer off the bench but the kings may need another facilitator type guy off the bench.
Mitchell isn’t it and Monk is a bit wild with the ball. Like, even somebody like a Joe Ingles-esque player off the bench would open things up for Monk, Davion, even Holmes. I don’t know who that player could be and how they can be acquired. Probably not Ingles himself. They need somebody who can handle the rock and create a bit off the bench though otherwise I expect this trend to continue.
Holmes had a couple good moments. Had a couple nice defensive possessions on Bam which explain why he still gets minutes with his horrid rebounding. Made a couple big baskets.
The pieces are there offensively. Kings just need to have the same energy defensively every night that they showed in this game for significant stretches to start winning consistently.

Some people have gotten so acclimatized to negativity that they don't believe that optimism is authentic. This has the ripple effect of fewer people wanting to engage after a win, because they don't trust the good vibes.

Kind of, all the modern ones do for the most part maybe not as effectively. Regardless, maybe there is a reason why he's not only not relying on that middle pick and roll with the big and guard but not using it much at all but if this is it, oh boy, get Holmes out of here NOW. Forcing it down low off of swing passes to him won't cut it even if it was the right play. The response tonight and calls down the stretch are something that can linger. Good news was that for the first half that offense was humming, like I said, now it's response time. I mentioned early in the game I was shocked that Spo didn't go zone and off and on from there he did along with cutting off those passes. If the Heat could hit the broad side of a barn in the first half this game ends much differently.

It was nice to see Keegan get to the basket in this one considering he didn’t make all those threes like usual. He had 3 assists too. A couple poor decisions that led to turnovers but he shows us more and more each game.

Domas looked like the guy you traded for but the fouling is ridiculous. I do think he got hosed a time or two but 20 some minutes? Nuts

Seriously… if you only look at the posts that are left, it can feel like you’re on the outside looking in if you don’t berate Holmes, diss Len and Lyles, or hate on Kayte. I’m not down with any of that, and I’m not a bedwetter that takes every setback as yet another confirmation of predestined failure.
You really can play much better than in the past, be going the right direction, and still lose to 4 of the NBA’s Top 10 teams. We’re not perfect, but we’re getting better,
I will say that it's times like these when VF21's loss is really felt; even if I still considered myself a Kings fan, I don't really have the temperament to be the cheerleading type.
