Kings vs. Boston SL Game thread

TRob and Jimmer both played well today. Hopefully you all can relax a bit now.

I may never relax about Jimmer. This coming from a guy who wanted us to draft him for that one skill he is supposed to have. We need him to hit 3 pointers on a regular basis. One game proves nothing unfortunately.

wow, this Kurz guy is straight up garbage. How the hell did he even manage to get a spot on this weak summer league team?

Final stat line

Kings shoot 47%, outrebound 52 to 47

TRob 15 pt, 16 reb and 3 ast
JImmer 19 pt, 2 reb and 5 ast

bajaden and I heading south in 30 seconds. Will post up another video or two tomorrow.

Adios

Uh, yeah I will, because I'm not a player making excuses for myself, and frankly I probably know the NBA game better than TRob by virtue of having watched it since before he was even born.

But you know, feel free to go insult Alex English with the same homer nonsense, given that he said the same thing just yesterday.

Wow!! You know the league better than a NBA player. I have heard it all now.

I think his point is all Trob knows about the NBA is what he was seen in his life. Brick is saying he is older and has seen more.

Nice game by T Rob. cant wait to see him out on the floor with DMC, IT, Reke, and MT23.

Jimmer, not that impressed. got fouled alot, and made a couple 3s. i still dont see him getting much playing time if the kings have this same roster when the season starts

Jimmer has to learn how to be more a PG. Right now he still has the same mentality he did in college where all he wanted to do was shoot the ball. Having him as the primary ball-handler almost precludes any sort of offense, as he spends way too much time dribbling the ball looking to create his own shot.

Disagree. Of course he should work on his distributing and handling skills but he's a shooter. I blame trying to turn him into a PG for much of his struggles so far.

Even though Jimmer had a better statistical game, he still showed no signs of being able to handle running PG in the NBA. So that still leaves him as an undersized 2 who can't create space for himself.

I don't want to convert him into Rubio or Kidd, but you can't have a player as selfish as Jimmer as your team's primary ball-handler. Great NBA teams move the ball well, and if your PG is looking for his own shot first, second, and even third, then you're going to have poor ball movement.

Now, if we could stick him at SG this wouldn't be an issue, but Jimmer's lack of size makes it difficult for him to play significant minutes at SG.

in theory, evans would have been the perfect partner. i big pg that can handle the ball and maybe guard the bigger/more athletic guard on defense

I agree. It shows us what his maturity and motivation are like.

Of course you realize that both Coach Smart and Coach English are encouraging him to consume more calories to aid his bulking up to take advantage of his increased workouts to build more muscle which requires more calories.

You seem to not be aware that Coach Jax told Jimmer he wanted him to take 20 shots a game and be more agressive. It is summer league which teams usefor player development for 1 and 2-year players and player evaluation for rookies and especially FA's. Seems to me he did just what the coaches asked.

I wasn't aware that Jackson had told him that. I certainly can't fault him for doing what he was told to do.

That being said, aggressiveness and taking lots of shots was never an issue with Jimmer, so I'm not sure why Bobby Jackson wanted him to "develop" that part of his game.

Funny stuff. I miss my first summer league game since the summer league has been televised and Robinson has his best game. Awesome.

So he rebounded and scored well. What kind of buckets did he score? drives to the basket? jumpers? post moves?

And how was the defense on Sullinger?

The defense on Sullinger was good, much better than anything he had done previously. He contested Sullinger' shots, one of which he blocked, and did a decent job battling him for position in the post. He was mostly absent as a help side defender, though.

His scoring was a a little bit of everything. He had a couple of post moves that he didn't convert, but they looked good nonetheless.

His defense was very good throughout. TRob was quicker at both ends and played his best game by far. Held Sullinger to 6 pts in 28 min while getting 15 pts, 16 reb and 3 ast himself. In my view he was playing more as a SF than PF but was a PF down low and around basket. He scored a number of times using an awesome spin move, put backs and some nice jumpers.

I asked Coach English before the game, somewhat tongue in cheek, if he was going to run pick n rolls and post ups for TRob. He smiled and said, "we have done some but now I want them to play harder.". non-answer answer.

Does he remind anyone else of Spencer Hawes? Big white guy wearing no.31 who lvoes shooting 3s?

Kurz couldn't carry Spencer's jock. 2 years ago I had him tagged as the very worst player in the entire NBA. The fact that the normal shooting obsessed crowd wanted to give him credit as anything but was embarrassing. He is terrible.

Megalomania at it's finest, ladies and gentleman.

Piggybacking this brand of logic, I knew more about golf than Tiger Woods when he came out of college because, well, I had played and watched the sport before he was even born. Even better, I know more about acting than all these young, up and coming whippersnappers too considering I've seen countless movies and tv shows since the 70's. Damn I'm even more talented that I thought.

So let me get this straight. When I quoted Magic Johnson's opinion regarding Rajon Rondo in an attempt to lend further credence to my own take, you completely dismissed it all while belittling Magic's expertise. Now you wanna point to Alex English's comments and use them as a lifeboat? Way to go hypocritical. Sorry brother .. it doesn't work that way. Thanks for playing though.

BTW, I love how Keith Smart, Geoff Petrie, and Jerry Reynolds don't know anything about anything but Alex English does when it's convenient for your argument.

I wonder if those that all but declared TRob a bust after one poor performamce are going to reverse field and declare him a future all-star after one good performance. None of these people have ever heard the phrase "Rome wasn't built in a day", apparently. Same logic applies to the development of a professional athlete. It takes time, people.

Will Robinson end up a bust or will he develop into a nice player? Nobody knows for sure at this point time, but many like to pretend they do.

Let's see if this one flies over your head as well:

I cited Alex English 100% for YOUR benefit. You are the guy who does the worship the celebrity/professional ball bouncer thing, not me. I am quite confident in my analytical abilites without having to reference anyone for support.

Now, given your worship for the talking heads and authority figures, and given that YOUR criticism DIRECTLY contradicted one of YOUR heroes, perhaps you may want to back off, or at least find some way to weasel around your inconsistency.

On the other hand it doesn't effect my analysis one way or the other. I know what I have seen, I've got three decades of seeing similar situations under my belt at this point, and if Alex wants to agree with me, well good for him. If he doesn't, not so good for him. But it still doesn't change for a second what is going on on that court.
