Kings-Lakers 10-26-07 game discussion

On last nights game, the Kings looked like a team that had no continuity on offense. I guess thats to be expected when two thirds of the starting line-up is missing. They didn't spread the floor and played too much one on one basketball. Thus few assists. Bibby, as a pt guard doesn't get that many assists, compared to, lets say Kidd or Nash. But what he does do is draw the attention of the defense, and there-by help free up others on the team.

This brings me to what my greatest fear was as the season approached. No back-up pt guard. I mean a real pt guard with those intrinsic values. I thought we were walking a dangerous path with only Douby ( who is not a pt guard. SEE John Stockton ), Greene, A rookie, and Salmon and Garcia to fall back on. My nightmare was realized last night.

If this team had been on the floor with the Sun's or the Mav's, or any of the good teams in the west, it would have been a blowout. The question is how good can they be with Miller and Artest on the floor with them. There were some bright spots. The best defensive big man duo of the night was Moore and Watkins. They finally shut down the middle and forced the Lakers to shoot from the outside. Unfortunaly, they made most of those shots.
I think Moore can help this team. I think Watkins has a place in the league, hopefully with us. I like Salmons as defender and as a complimenty piece of the offense. I see Douby as a player who can bring the ball up the floor and score the ball. I don't see him as a pt guard. He just doesn't have the instincts of a pt. Garcia is talented, but so far inconsistent. He was the same way in college. Having said that, I still like him. He's tough, a good defender when he trys and a better than average rebounder for his position. I'm still no fan of KT, and he's still missing layups. I've always been a big fan of SAR, but I don't think he has a place on this team. Not with the style of game Reggie wants to play. He simply can't get up and down the floor quick enough.

I don't see this team as it stands now, with emphasis on, as it stands now, as a play-off team. I would like to be surprised and be wrong, but I doubt it.

I think I'm going to look at the positive side of this whole thing and realize that this might be what the team needs. Don't take my comment the wrong way, I never wanted Mike to get hurt or Artest to sit out, but I think this will help the future (the young guys: Kevin, Douby, Cisco, hopefully Justin and whoever else is going to remain a King). I'm all about the young. Since they're here, why not give them a chance (especially since it might be an interesting ride this year)

I wish Ronnie was here, I think our coach would appreciate his hustle and defense, plus he could work out his offensive game while Mike is out. Anyway, this year should might be what the last part of last year should have been - teaching the young guys, making sure they learn and grow as a team. I was hoping that the whole team could unify in these several pre-season games, but that was only wishful thinking. So maybe this is the year for us to grow.

Plus, no more old vets. Please! I'm not a Mikki fan, and I don't want to think about SAR. At this point I don't think we can trade him (and I thought Kenny was untradable).

If you think Bynum is a mediocre center then I don't know what to say.

If Elden Campbell could average 18/8/2 over 75+ starts at C, I'd hate to know what a mediocre center is. I'd just call Bynum young, inexperienced, nervy, and inconsistently aggressive. At best, I think he'll show improvement by having more solid games each year, but I don't see him shaking his disappearing acts anytime soon. Vlade and Cambpell had that same affliction early on. Ironically, Vlade didn't really start to come into his own until the Lakers were clear of most of the older vets. Vlade would get the whole starting squad yelling and glaring at him for mistakes, Bynum only gets Kobe. Bynum's progress is at a disadvantage playing under a coach like Jackson too, that's for sure. Jackson uses teammates against each other, among other Jedi mind tricks. I think he has notches on his cane for "# of rookies I've broken into tears".

Yea, name calling players who are not on the Kings is fine, name calling teams that are not the Kings is fine, but name caling Kings players isn't? Quite a tradition you have going.

"Die Laker scum!"
Beyond looking childish I am not sure what you are looking to acomplish here. You want to make some valid criticisims of the players... have at it, God knows there is plenty to criticise. But Sophmoric name games really does not bring anything usefull to the board and is nothing that can't be found on any of the lesser boards populated reject Trolls. As for going after Mods who politly informed you of the way we prefer to do things here thats uncalled for and equally unproductive.

Does this mean the love affair with Phil and Kobe is officially over?

BTW I tend to agree that Bynum is actually tallent young guy. If I were a Laker coach he would be required to stay at least 20 yards from Kwami to prevent spoilage.

You don't have to like any tradition that we have at KingsFans.com. But, if you want to play at our house, you do have to honor those traditions.

I'm not upset at last night's game because 3 of our best players didn't suit up. Is KMart a lesser player as about the only qualified scorer on the court last night? Hardly. It just goes to show you that Artest, Miller and Bibby are going to be missed when not all playing at the same time. Thats alot of firepower to be missing all at once. It also should be noted that I would hate to see Artest and Bibby traded this year. Getting back expiring contracts and youthful players could extend the rebuild process to a point where it could be a decade before we got the right player in the draft(Lebron, Wade, etc). No, getting quality for the guys is important.

If I'm the Kings, I'm starting Cisco at PG and bringing Douby off the bench as the combo guard he is. More importantly, I'd really like to see Hawes get back so that we may have some resemblance of a low-post presence, as young and inexperienced as he is.

My love list had 3 names on it (Magic, Chick, Logo). The best any Laker has ever done since then was earn respect. But everyone has dirt, even the beloved ones, and we all know how Phil operates, especially. I didn't drop any secrets there.
