Kings get #5 pick

I have no idea where you got that from but you're wrong. He's probably the best pure shooter in the lotto and his game fits better with Tyreke than anyone else in this entire draft. Reminds me a little bit of Danny Granger.

He cannot create his own shot, and Evans game isn't about creating shots for others. He will be lost in the mix. Like I said earlier.. In watching Johnson NOTHING stood out to me as someone who would make a great prospect or NBA player. Plus we have 4 other SFs that he would need to take time from.. If we draft Johnson the only impact he will have in the statistical column is the minutes he's taking from the other two young SFs.

And...NBAdraft.net has both the Wolves and the Kings passing on Cousins, and taking Johnson and Monroe respectively. If we already had a defensive shot blocking strongman down low, I'd be okay with Monroe, but we don't so I hope we steer clear of him.

Chad Ford's picks for us the last couple of years:
2008: Darrell Arthur
2009: Jordan Hill

Chad Ford is an idiot... People need to stop looking at "team needs" because when the talent disparity is as wide as it is from 4 to 5 then you do not select for team need unless you have suffered head injuries. The only site that I trust and that has most of the picks right on draft day over the years is draftexpress.com...

Its ok. Calm Down. Were going to get a good player. We could have been stuck with #6, and lets not forget the miracle last day of the season we had when we ended up with the 4th slot .. we could have been easily stuck at #8 tonight.

Wall, Turner, and Favors are probly out of it.

Cousins could slide. I love Aldrich. Johnson will be good. Udoh has a lot of potential. Im not worried. A little bummed out, sure ... Last year was much more dissapointing and look how that one turned out.

The lowest the Kings could fall was 6th.

It's very doubtful Cousins slides. Something would have to happen that would seriously bring down his value.

I sincerely doubt we take Aminu. Reasons? Tariq Abdul Wahad and Gerald Wallace.

Jo Maloof sounded aggressive in those interviews. Good. Its high time.

Its the Wolves at #4... you never know what they'll do looking @ their history. But Cousins may not be the BPA after seeing the workouts. Remember Tyreke was listed at around #7 in the mocks. Look how he climbed. We'll see. I'm not that worried. Maybe we don't have a big name guy like a Wall/Turner. But we'll end up with a good player.

Ok, at this time last year Ricky Rubio was for sure going in the top two. Two years ago Brook Lopez and Jerryd Bayless was in the top four. And who thunk that Jokiam Noah would last until the ninth pick three years ago.

The point is, the draft order is almost never accurate at this point in the draft. A lot can happen between now and draft time; I am not sweating it. #5 is not great but it's not a bad place to be. If one of the top 4 drops then the Kings will be in a great position to take advantage.

And draft history suggests that at least one of the top four guys usually drops by draft time.

Shouldn't sound too desperate or we might get lowballed lol.

OK here are the list of players we have to choose from....

Al-Farouq Aminu
Wesley Johnson
Cole Aldrich
Ed Davis
Greg Monroe
Ekpe Udoh
Patrick Patterson
Hassan Whiteside
Daniel Orton

All of those players are in the same category of "prospects" imo.. None stand out and you could rank them 1-9 in any order and it would be pretty much accepted by everyone else..

Now add Cousins, Favors, Turner, and Wall to that list.. EVERY list will have those 4 players at or near the top.

If I'm Geoff I am seriously working the phones now to trade this pick for something more substantial. And given that Joe Maloof was suggesting yesterday that we might even consider trading #2-#4, I would think #5 would be an even more open invitation. The biggest hesitation just being that the perceived falloff might well mean a falloff in return value too.

Absolutely. I just don't see what this pick really gets you. But like you imply, who the heck is going to be dying to trade up to #5? Are they going to yearn to pick Johnson? Aldrich? It's a long shot, but at #5 Cousins might be there. He would be a good pick to keep at #5, or to trade (he would have some trade value). I'm grasping at straws though. Right now, it just looks like a tough long road.

I know the furthest we could drop was 6, I was saying that until the last day of the season we were in a tie with 2 or 3 other teams .. we lucked out and got the 4 slot. Today could have been a lot worse if we didnt gain 2 spots on that last day, so its not like we were completely unlucky. GSW had to win there last game of the season, playing 5 guys 48 minutes, just to jump over us.

As far as Cousins sliding, I think its a real possibility.

Between the Wizards and 76ers, Wall and Turner will be gone. They fit in with both of those teams too well to slide.

Jersey will probly take a big, but you never know. With Lopez there C, they might go with Favors .. They need a lot of help though. I could see them trading out or picking Johnson.

The Wolves have Love and Jefferson. Not sure they would spend a pick this high on a Big, especially if its Cousins ( who has been tagged as a Al Jefferson clone ) They dont need a PG, but Johnson seems like a good fit here if he slides past the Nets. I could also see them trading out.

I sincerely doubt we take Aminu.

Me too. But I do agree that our chances at Wall, Evans, Cousins or Favors aren't good, unless one of those guys looks really bad at combine or interviews. The dropoff after #4 is just too steep. We obviously don't need Johnson, unless we're turning into a total small ball team. That leaves mostly tweeners and projects to pick from. Aminu probably isn't THE tweener project, but I don't think he's miles off, either.

One positive, at 1 thru 4 our pick would be made for us, at 5 GP really gets to go with the best he sees, no predetermined favorite. I think GP will shine.

Why are you all so high on cousins? The dude is out of shape and he has a bad attitude and is a bad guy to have in the locker room.

"Good" isn't good enough.

Because those negatives that you listed aren't totally 100% true, and all his positives outshine those negatives by a factor of 100-1

They don't have to keep who they pick, that's why they'll likely take Cousins. For his trade value.

This is exacly what I am afraid of. See Cisco, Douby, Thompson, Hawes.

You're not going to get a sniff at a top pick like this for a while, if players continue to progress and improve. The Kings need to take a shot at a top 3 pick.

I see what you're doing... ;) Good strategy. I heard Cousins stole a little kid's lunch, too. And he wears lifts. Sometimes heels. Everyone, stay away.

Yeah it is, especially off the drive and dish. Just adds another shooter from downtown that can also defend and pick up the slack on the boards.

He is very athletic, but he's not as quick or explosive as Marion. Marion was one of the bounciest and quickest off two feet that I've ever seen, Johnson is not that athletic.

Yep. He's fast, he can jump, he's quick. But he's not fluid at all, and I think that has a lot to do with his inability to get his own shot. He's a straight up outside shooter. No thanks, especially when we have a zillion small forwards.

Why would Johnson mean small ball?

I think some are underrating how Wes would fit with this team. Hes a good shooter. Much better than Turner, and With Evans being a poor shooter, you want his teammates to be able to shoot the 3, and he can. Hes a good rebounder. Much better than any other Swingman we have. And hes a very good defender. At 6'7, he can probly play SG,SF and PF in rare situations. I dont think he is as aggresive as Turner, and Turner is a much better slasher/ball handler/passer, but when Evans is doing that for us anyway, Johnson could fit in with this team nicely. Johnson is also a better athlete than Turner, always a plus.

He would add another log to the logjam we have at that spot, but you have to think Casspi and Greene have some value around the league, and I think Johnson is clearly better than those guys at this stage in his career.

I love Greene, and I'd keep him over Casspi. If a deal for a big came along, Casspi would be a good starting point to any deal.

5th spot sucks but it doesnt matters we will make the best out of it.
Maybe land a second player compared to Reke...
Hopefully not anther Casspi ;)
