Kings get #5 pick

I just have this feeling that Greg Monroe is just going to light up Petrie's dreams. He is made to excel at all the workout testing.

Yeah it is, especially off the drive and dish. Just adds another shooter from downtown that can also defend and pick up the slack on the boards.

He's not as strong as I would like on a drive and dish..

He is getting better though, but Johnson will not be the answer we are looking for. There are better options. Might as well draft a long shot big that might pay off.

I got freaking pissed when GSW dropped to 6th because I knew the odds sucked that we went top 3 instead of Minny or NJ.

Why would Johnson mean small ball?
At 6'7, he can probly play... PF in rare situations

Hawes, Brockman and JT are unsuited to playing the 2 or 3. Everyone else on the roster can play well at one or both of those positions. We have 3 bigs, 2 combo guards, and a whole ton of Fs and G/Fs.

That's not to say that I'm sure GP wouldn't pick Johnson anyway, if he likes a player he can be very oblivious WRT the existing roster (e.g., Douby after Garcia after Martin). But, given the relatively glaring weaknesses at every other position, I reserve the right to be completely unenthused about having 5 or 6 guys who can play SG and 5 or 6 who can play SF.

Well if we take Johnson, we could always use Greene/Casspi + some extra stuff to get another pick or something. Take BPA and figure out the rest later.

Why would we want another pick? If we're this unhappy with number 5, how does it make any sense to try to get another later 1st? If anything I'd hope we'd try to get a player who can contribute immediately. We have enough young guys already.

Hence "or something."

That doesn't make sense IMO. Is Johnson really much better (if at all) than Casspi and Donte that we would be willing to give up guys that have already meshed with this team and have shown at least some of what they can do in the NBA?

Oh they take Cousins.. No doubt about it. The talent in the top 4 far surpasses what's below 4th in my opinion. We have almost no chance at getting any of the four mentioned. People are trying to convince themselves here that Minnesota doesn't need Cousins on Kingsfans, but in reality they would be dumb not to take him.

You severely overestimate the intelligence of David Kahn and his crack team of assembled geniuses.

That's where I have a problem.. Why draft these guys if we are going to get rid of them in 1 and 2 years respectively. Will we be getting rid of Johnson in a couple years too? I put him on the same prospect level as a Greene, and Casspi so why get rid of them for a guy that gives us the same?

Well, at least we didn't get 6th. Should be interesting what GP does with this pick, Cousins is a headcase so I'm scared of him, Favors too...I was hoping, REALLY hoping...but all for not. This offseason is GP's legacy, let's see what he does...I think there's more chance he does SOMETHING than nothing.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is the reason for the lottery to begin with. Remember all the desire for losing the last couple games because it guarantees us a spot in the top 6? Well, that it did, except the couple teams who won a couple more games last year hit the jackpot. Happens year after year.

Removes the guarantee that tanking will get you the top pick.

Yeah, I was glad we wound up third so we wouldn't drop too far, but man does it suck to keep seeing teams that won a couple more games than us keep hitting it big.

I fully expected 5th. By the odds, that was where we should have ended up. I'm not happy, but fully expected this and can't get too upset knowing that the lottery served its "intended" purpose.....and according to those who set it up worked as it should.

Sucks, but what can you do?

Go Kings, and GP - make us proud. :D

Why would we even take Johnson unless we thought he'd be much better than Casspi and Greene?

Make us proud = NO SF PLEASE!!!!

GP needs to show us something by trading places with Minnesota and taking Cousins or Favors (whoever falls).. Then signing a big name FA and bringing this team to the playoffs next season!!!

Aminu is a SF of a different stripe though- a defensive minded athletic guy that can rebound and block shots. If we take a SF please let it be him.

That's what I was asking you!!! :)

:p

I don't want another SF!!!

What I said was that IF we end up taking him, we can trade the extra SF's for something else. So obviously, if we took him we'd be thinking he was a lot better than Greene and Casspi.

You don't normally win with young talent, which both Sacramento and Minnesota have. You also don't get Free Agents as a small market, which would include the previously mentioned teams as well. The Kings are bad, that is why they lose. So are the Wolves.

Tanking implies purposely playing below your level of talent or blowing up your talent and putting in a bunch of scrubs who barely belong in the NBA. This is pretty much exactly what the Wizards did and they got rewarded. To me, this is a sign that the lottery is no longer working when you factor in the extra money, exposure and NBA backing that certain cities can offer FAs that other cities can not. To make a league where certain teams can only grow through the draft and then make that draft a game of luck is just asking to have the haves and have-nots situation that the salary cap was meant to avoid.

great post. we put ourselves in the best position possible unfortunately, the ping pong balls did not go our way. i smell a scam w/ wiz getting the 1st though. ironically they get it w/ agent zero effing up the whole franchise.

Yeahhh, i dont see anyone passing up on Demarcus Cousins so they can draft Wesley Johnson. It would be nice though. Ive got my fingers crossed in hopes that we get Udoh.
