Kenny Thomas for a Bag of Chips

Kenny would make for a great role player on a championship caliber team or even a true contender. The problem is that the Kings are neither of those things.... as it stands.

2 people that have to be traded for sure. HART and KENNY THOMAS

Why does Hart have to be traded? He's not hurting us with his contract, won't be the back-up PG to Bibby (Another experienced guard, Douby/Price, or one of the latter two), has a small one-year deal, and is a solid, long, tenacious 6'3" defensive guard that plays with energy. I don't care if we keep him or not, but I don't see why it's a "must". Gotta remember with Rick out, things will be different with the bench players.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if he stays because of his defense and giving Musselman another guy who can d up off the bench.

Ive been watching the boards and questioning it myself - what was wrong with Kenny/SAR duo? It was extremely effective.

People bring out a lot of points, but they're all ailene-voisin type of methodical one-liners
- too short (so what, him and sar are interchangeable, and he is faster than 80% of PF's in contrast, and Barkley was 4 inches shorter than Kenny)
- pouts a lot (I haven't seen a lot of this in public, maybe someone has private access to the kings locker-room? The way I see him on the court, is he always looks like he's pouting.. he looked like he was pouting when he was dropping 25 and 15 on some halpess team)
- doesnt get along with SAR/others (questionable, again, and this isnt a sitcom, people dont have to get along)
- selfish (not true period - he played within the system 100%)
- didnt produce consistently as a reserve (well who produced consistently in the first half of the season anyway? it was a mess)

As a new member the KT bashing is something that confuses me.

The fact that he only plays good starting is rediculous, and he does have a horrible attitude, but look at his game stats around when he took over the starting job, he had over 10 rebounds a game consistantly for about 10 games. Come gametime I can usually forget about his faults of character.

He outrebounded, and outhussled Shareef (who contributes great off the bench) so why not let him start? I honestly think him starting had a little bit to do with the Kings turnaround.

OT, but another thing that confuses me here....Why the Nene fascination? Is it his cool name? It couldnt possibly be his game, cause Thomas has better numbers then him.

...I totally just realized this post is probably gonna annoy a lot of people...Oh well, thats what the internet is for!

When I offered KT for a hot dog and a six pack in the beginning of the last season - Bee made fun of me. Now seeing that You are only willing to give a bag of chips and a single corona - I realize that I was asking too much. Shame on me

Because of Nene's potential, size, and versatile ability he's shown during his career. Of course he doesn't have great numbers, he hasn't gotten a good oppurtunity since 03-04 in Denver, this season will be his best of his career. Starting at PF and playing some center.

I'm fine with KT/SAR, but you cannot have jumpshooting, medicore rebounding, no-presence-in-paint, weak defender, no-shotblocking Brad Miller next to them at center, and then have Potapenko (for now) behind him. It's just not even a decent front-court defensively, it's good offensively, sure. SAR's post-defense and KT's rebounding/hustle is all that we have in the front-court, defensively. But, that is absolutely not what you count on or base your interior defense for.

Interior defense must be added to the front-court, and I think you've gotta get two guys around/behind/with Brad/SAR or KT/SAR, to compliment them. I think it'll be the former. One of Brad/KT should be moved, more likely to be KT.

Oh realy, do tell?

Do you mean extremely effective as in among the weaker PF combos in the league? Extremely effective as in our interior defense and rebounding was at the bottom of the league? Extremely effective as in sucked so bad it was largely benched throughout the playoffs for us so we could let our guards and SFs handle the position far better than our garbage frontline could?

You have to be specific when you are talking about how "extremely effective" our suckass platoon was, because otherwise people might get confused by all the possible alternatives.

No, I doubt he would. Reason being, he does not/cannot defend, and if you can't do that, you aren't roleplaying on a title contender. That's normally the whole basis of a title winning roleplayer -- defense. Reason 2 of course being that I doubt his ego would allow him to accept such a "disrespectful" assignment.

It wasn't effective for most of those reasons said by Brick.

But, also because SAR wasn't healthy the whole season, and wasn't near back to his regular game-shape by the end of the season. The only way it would of been if everything went as planned (SAR starting) and if KT played well off the bench, which he didn't and didn't look like it'd change.

I don't see the KT/SAR duo being around anymore, likely because KT will be gone.

SAR and Kenny aren't that good as starters, both of them have glaring weaknesses not the least of which is consistancy. Reef has shown he can come off the bench and be effective at times, but lets not fool ourselves... he isn't half as good as many people thought(and seem to continue to think) he would be. Kenny was the better starter this year night in and night out(although not by much), mostly because he fit in better with what we needed, Rebounding. Of course there were times when matchups favored Reef and so he got the nod. But please I'm tired of hearing how Reef is so great, the best thing about his game is his contract. Sorry folks, we have a problem at the 4... gee what a surprise  .

These threads just gets worse. First off, as much as I like to see Thomas go, give him some credit. I agree with sdballer about thim being undervalued by the fans.

Hate to say it but I think we're stuck with the same starting front court as last season. Especially if we don't take care of the Bonzi issue.

Wow, giving up already with 2 plus months left? :p

With Bonzi back - we likely can only do trades..

With Bonzi gone - FAs and trades...

If that's how it goes though, the same front-court as last season... yuck. Medicore defensively.

I hope your right but it feels like its taking forever. I just can't imagine seeing that same front court from last season with layups after layups being given each night. :(

This seems interesting. Not alot of love for KT or BM. I wonder out of the two, who would you guys rather see go? For me, it did seem like KT had more "moments" last year than BM. BM has better attitude. Who has more potential, or on the other hand potential to be replaced?

I'd get rid of both, personally, but since that isn't likely...

Brad - Shooting, passing, smarts, iffy contract, average rebounder, not an athlete, not a paint presence, not a shotblocker, inconsistent effort.

KT - Rebounding, hustle, effort, quickness, iffy contract, not a paint presence defensively, decent passer, jumper? (does he get this back?), doesn't want to come off the bench, athleticism.

To choose one, I'd take KT over Brad to get better defensively and still have enough offense in the front-court with an above-average/good defensive center next to KT. Someone like Magloire/Camby/Nene. :)

I'd be good with Brad having a defensive PF next to him though, or having a defensive center replace Brad in the starting line-up.

Thanx for the response. There is so much KT bashing going on. I was certainly more excited at times with him than BM. Can't really remember ever being that excited about Brad last year at all.

It would be nice to move both, if we could get more than a bag of chips and a beer (no matter what chips;) ).

Indeed... Brad for Camby! :)

So you're trading a top 10 center like Brad to make up for KENNY'S weaknesses? Camby's not a bad player(even though he's always injured) but damn that makes no sense. Kenny is garbage and he always will be. If we got Camby you automatically start SAR anyway. Either way Kenny's got to go, he sucks.

I think we should keep Brad.

There are things about his game which frustrate me - not least of seems to be his lack of ability to jump.

I cant help thinking that someone of his size ought to be better defensively. But i can live with that because i do think he can give us extra offensive options and im hoping that under a new coach, and with better defence in our back court thanks to Ron that Brad can be an asset.

Its harder for me to beleive the same with KT.

I want our starting PF to be agressive, physical, make a big nuisance of himself to the opposive defence and of course score and rebound. I dont see that KT is likely to be able to do that with the game that he has, -or at least he didnt show that last season, and that's the evidence i have to work with.

As for Hart...well he just seems to clog up a spot on the roster. Surely that isnt what we need?

I don't think Kenny sucks, but he undermined the team last year refusing to give his all from the bench. I find "pouting and sandbagging" more despicable than "sucking" so I'd rather see Kenny go than Brad.

I think Kenny is a good player when he can get his mind right.

We'll agree to disagree on that part of my post. As I did say in general, I'd be cool with the other two scenarios below.

brad loses his effectiveness when he cannot hit his shot and becomes passive. teams will sag and help on other players when brad does both of those above.

I think Brad is a better overall player. KT has a bad contract and is not really much of a team player. He could be a great 6th man off the bench for scoring punch but he won't do it and that's what bugs me the most.

I just picked up the dog crap in the back yard(I think I lost about 10lbs in sweat) so maybe Petrie will take that for Thomas. He can start on my kids team :D

About 4 months or so ago all the talk here was about how if we got rid of Brad we'd lose Bibby's effectiveness, since he thrives on a two man game with a big man. Sure, he could probably run the pick and roll with SAR, but the pick and pop wouldn't be as effective. For better or for worse (offense and defense respectively) I think of the two as a package deal. For that reason I think it'd make sense to adjust the PF position than the C.

But now that we're throwing around Brad trades, I think Brad for Illgauskaas would make a lot more sense than Brad for Camby... Or better yet, Brad/Bonzi for Ilgauskas/Hughes ;)

Illgauskas? No.

I'd take Camby over Illgauskas. He doesn't miss a ton of games, some, yes. He's a legit shotblocker, a top 5 center, a great rebounder, has a good jumper, is an underrated passer, athletic, tough-minded. Who knows, may even play in 70 games. ;)

Illgauskas is just like a bigger Brad.

Hughes over Bonzi? I'll pass.
