[MLB] The “Sacramento” A’s thread 2025

I’ve always been a fan of the gold jerseys so I’m tempted to get a Kurtz one for posterity’s sake.

He's got 2 more years left on his contract before the Club Option making way more in guaranteed money than he can make on an MLB rookie contract so if he does decide to try baseball, he's probably going to continue getting paid first. At that point (Spring 2028) he'll be 30 years old and have no experience in professional baseball. He might give it a try if he doesn't just want to retire but the A's actually have a pretty stacked prospect pool now so it's a long shot that he'll ever be good enough to displace everyone ahead of him (I think he played OF) for an MLB roster spot.

It might be fun -- certainly he would have a lot of people watching his progress with interest -- but as Michael Jordan learned, the level of scrutiny a high profile athlete is going to experience in MiLB when every single at-bat is picked apart is only going to make his path to MLB harder. Getting a lot of chances to fail in relative anonymity may be part of the necessary growth curve of a professional baseball prospect.

It probably doesn’t need to happen given that there are still infielders in the farm system that should be ready to come up sooner than later but adding Suarez to the Butler/Wilson/Rooker/Kurtz/Sody/Shea death lineup would be insane (especially at Sutter Health Park)

Coming off a season with a sub .300 OBP? Doesn't seem like a guy the A's would go after unless they're once again trying to spend money on a short-term deal with a high AAV to avoid the ire of the Player's Association (ie the Luis Severino contract).
