[MLB] The “Sacramento” A’s thread 2025

“Here” as in Sacramento or just a general “here”?

I think the lack of a city name on the official A's account answers that...

Soderstrom being from Turlock might have factored into his decision to sign a long-term extension to stay close to home for the next two years at least. It makes sense to lock in the guaranteed money and he's got the performance incentives in case he outperforms the base contract. I don't know if this includes a no-trade clause or not -- I'm guessing probably not since this is the A's. We'll see if he's still on the team if and when they finally complete the Vegas move.

It's bittersweet seeing this franchise finally commit to keeping their own prospects only after they leave Oakland but we've known that about Fisher for a long time now. All he's cared about since he bought the team is getting them out of Oakland so it makes sense that now he's willing to spend a little more money. Hopefully Gelof and Butler have bounce back seasons after struggling last year (to put it lightly, in Gelof's case). Once this team figures out the pitching rotation they should be back in playoff contention. I'd expect them to take another starter in the first round of the 2026 draft. Cameron Flukey, Liam Peterson, and Jackson Flora fit their draft range. Gio Rojas and Carson Boleman too if they're willing to go with a HS pitcher though Trevor Cahill is the only highly drafted HS pitcher that I can think of that the A's successfully developed this century so that would be a bit of a surprise.

I'm pumped to hear this. I was thinking he might slide over to 3B eventually given SS will most likely belong to De Vries or Wilson and the hot corner is where his arm would have the most impact. If he can hold his own as a starter it would make more sense to have him DH on his non-pitching days and rest the arm. The A's also have a 19 year old switch-hitting shortstop named Edgar Montero who raked in the Dominican League last year (1.063 OPS in 55 games) and should make it to Stockton at some point this year. If he continues to progress, he may eventually be the guy who takes over at 3B.

I still don't think I can bring myself to watch the A's anymore once they officially land in Las Vegas, but there is a ton of talent in the pipeline for their fans to be excited about.

Will you become a fan of a different team? Or will you just become a fan of baseball in general?

Probably neither. Every other owner voted yes to the move and the commissioner has repeatedly lied about the amount of money Oakland raised in their bid to keep the team (more than Nevada offered) and then mocked the Oakland fans for showing up to a reverse boycott game. Consequently there's too much bad blood for me to care about MLB anymore.

7/$70 sounds like it's going to be an absolute steal down the road. Whoo.
By this precedent, Kurtz is going to get like 8 years/100 million which would have a chance to be the best contract in sports history. I’m not sure why these agents are letting the A’s lowball them and agreeing to these deals like this but as someone who’s decided to still root for the A’s for as long as they’re still in California, I like it.

Also the fact the A’s are finally locking up their core of young studs for once just makes all the other times they didn’t all the more frustrating (Screaming in Oly and Chappy)
