K9 - Murphy

#31
My last post until Tuesday... here is THE TRUTH you MUST remember, K9's expiring is valuable until Thurday at noon (PST)... after that, it is just money coming off the books... and with no real prospective big big-name free agents coming to the Kings unless they way, way overpay, then it will just remain as extra cap space for the Kings...

and, honestly, can't we stretch the Webber for moveable parts deal out any longer? I love moveable parts! I am going to have a jersey made with the name on the back as "Moveable Parts"... what number should I pick, though?

This is a valid point as long as the assumption that we are unable to land a FA this summer that's better than Murphy (using the cap space we would gain from KT's expiring) proves true. That being said, I don't really see us landing a decent big man in FA :-\.
I agree partially. If Petrie realistically thinks we can target and acquire a good player in free agency, then that's the better move.

However, the odds are we would be signing a good role player to a contract that is roughly the equivalent of a MLE contract.

So, you also have to ask yourself, if at this stage of our team's development, are we better off committing ourselves to 5 years of a good role player or taking a chance on getting a major piece.

In other words, the player we sign in free agency might very well be better than Murphy, but a 5 year 25-30 million dollar contract might be worse for the development of our team and our ability to land a big player via trade.

Based on Petrie's history of free agent signings, I am inclined to agree with you. The longer we can keep Petrie away from making decisions with cap space, the better.

Whatever Webbers contract was worth? 20-24 mill?? Whatever that number is put it on the jersey. Think they can stick that many zero's on the jersey?

I could careless if we got Murphy for K9, but not at the expense of Donte.

As of right now Reke, Casspi and Donte should be untouchable...and maybe even Hawes.

I like Thompson and wanted the Kings to draft him, but I think he is movable.

If we trade for Murphy, the level of embarrassment I will feel as a Kings fan will probably be on par with the Ostertag acquisition. If Donte is somehow involved it would be much worse. Not only does Donte have a lots of upside, but he also apparently has really great chemistry with everyone on the team.

Normally I stick up for my ND guys. Troy's a decent rebounder, but that's about it. He was a total douche in college - I wouldn't do this move. If it's for K9 and filler, I suppose that would be OK.

Which is why that just surely has to be a request from the Indiana side that we would never consider. Just has to be.

Of course last time I thought "just has to be" it was 2005 and I was thinking Geoff just had to see Peja was going in the tank for us without Vlade, and that he would move him at the deadline. So a deal is announced, and I am all whew! And then they say the Kings have tradesd...Chris Webber for a bunch of flexible pieces. I was one pissed off puppy that night.

greene being mentioned at all worries the hell out of me. i would be horrified.
I wouldn't worry too much. The only thing we have heard from the Kings side is that they are interested in K9 for TM swap. Most likely for the reasons mentioned in this thread. The one mention of Greene was someone on ESPN insider suggesting that if Indiana wanted more from Sac, we could throw in Greene. ESPN at it's best again

Seriously though, the thought is so bizarre on its face, it has 0 chance of happening. I know some people here trust Petrie more than others, but there is 0 logic to that rumor whatsoever.

Hahaha, I love it. See, that would be the best part about getting Murphy. When we use him as part of a package to get Al Jefferson or Brook Lopez next season, we can finally declare victory on the Webber trade and throw a parade celebrating the movable parts :D

obviously the person mentioning Greene doesn't live anywhere near Sacramento and doesn't cover or watch the kings. no way we trade Donte for virtually anything short of a dominant big man in his prime. I really don't see anyway we trade Greene especially now that we have a coach who knows how to use Greene and get him to play to his potential more and more.

even though I think getting Murphy wouldhelp the kings a bit I think there are better options out there. I'd like to package k9 for tyrus Thomas as long as we don't have to give up a first ever and none of our young studs minus maybe hawes because I don't feel like he's really our future in the frontcourt and would prefer a defensive minded player preferably one who can contest shots. I think tyrus would fit perfectly for our needs and with our squad being basically the only young big who can block shots and play defense. I just think he'd be a stud for us for the next 5 years and fitting really well into our rotation. westphal has shown the ability to get the best out of young players so it would just be a perfect fit

heh -- if Geoff did he'd better include himself in the trade and apply to Indiana for asylum. And I'd still get him. :p
I would officially request waivers on Petrie and write a letter to the Sacramento County Mental Health Clinic that he be admitted immediately...oh wait, Reynolds might be appointed new GM...grrr...we're screwed either way. We might as well dig up Dick Motta for God's sake, I doubt even at 93 years old he would trade Donte for a stiff like Murphy.

Petrie is absolutely retarded if he does this trade.. I would rather let KT expire.

But then again we are talking about Petrie the "genius" lol.. Genius my butt.

I assume you mean his contract. You can't possibly dislike KT that much can you? :D

LOL yah.. Don't feel any hatred towards KT.. As for Petrie.. Well people have praised his drafting abilities but I think 50% of the KF forum could have either done a better job with what was available since Douby. Petrie is VERY overrated.

If that was towards me then I point your eyes to the "if" in my statement.. But I still think Petrie is an idiot :D
I will be on the fence about Mr. Petrie until he does something to keep the re-building on track...last year was good(as far as offseason moves and drafting)...whatcha gonna do for an encore Geoff?

You mean the same forum that had a good number of people who were very vocal about wanting Yi? Or had some people who thought Jason Smith was a better pick than Hawes?

Petrie isn't perfect and he has had draft misses. He's not infallible and some of his decisions can be telegraphed by careful observers, but he's been one of the best in the league at consistently getting talent out of the draft, so I think it's silly and dishonest to claim that most of this forum could do better.
