Yes, he was in Denver when Karl was the coach, but some of the scuttlebutt around Karl's firing was that he refused to give playing time to players management wanted, especially McGee. I don't think Karl is a fan.
Moreover, word is the Sixers waived him so he could sign with a team before playoff rosters are set. I doubt he ends up here.
No can do....
Thompson/Landry salary consumes what would be necessary for our back up roles.
I have a feeling that a team with a poor record is going to claim him, but I think he may be an ideal back up to Golden State. His IQ is pretty low, but he would bring interior defense and rebounding to a team that lacks depth in that regard.
McGee was waived - once he clears waivers he could be had for the minimum salary. Now, I don't know if he's the answer for our team (particularly if Karl doesn't want to play him), and I suspect he'll try to hook up with a playoff team, but money is not an obstacle.
I'm speaking more of long term, I'm not sure what he will command next season, he has the freedom to sign for more I believe next season.
But correct me if I'm wrong.
The answer is in your question. Karl has seen Mcgee... no chance he wants him back. We already have the talented knuckle head box checked. He played a year under Karl in Denver, any chance we go after of him? I think he'd be a step up from Hollins.
McGee is a kettlehead, but I'm more appalled by Philadelphia's role in this whole thing. They literally traded for McGee so that they could escape the salary floor, and waived him as soon as they no longer needed him for that purpose.
And the worst thing about it? Unless I'm misinformed, the impact of them failing to reach the salary floor would have been that the difference between their payroll and the floor would have been split between the players on their roster. That means that eight or nine guys guys, who will probably never play another minute in the NBA after this season, missed out on their one big chance at a decent payday, all because Philadelphia is so dedicated to tanking and being cheap as ****.
player option on the 2015-16 season. make it a team option and id sign him
I agree. especially that many fans believe no big name player wants to play in cowbell town. We will be lucky if we could get a Gasol or a D. Jordan. I'll settle for the likes of an over-active McGee than the likes of Hollins. At this point, the kings have to take some chances. If the kings can sign McGee for a reasonable 2 years and say 3 million a year, I think the kings have to take a chance.
players start to "get it" after being bounced around the league a while. Look at hassan Whiteside, I would say his bbiq was worse than McGee, before his sudden transformation.
McGee is worth a shot, and the kings need to take chances to try and get better. McGee is a low risk, high reward type player the kings should try out.
Thing is JT may be guaranteed just $2.65 million in 2016/17, but that's only if you waive him, so you're only getting about $4 million in actual space, and cap is expected to jump to $89-92 million. Don't think it will be worth it.
As to the subject, just NO.
