Jan 10 decision day for Kings re Sampson

All active players on the roster as of Jan 10 have to get contracts for the remainder of the year. Sampson I believe has only non-guaranteed contract but he is the 13th man on roster, the minimum the Kings must have.

He hasn't played a lick (ok 2 licks) all year, Bonzi is out for 3 more weeks, SAR out for at least 6-7 weeks and Peja's back a question mark.

Do they keep Sampson? why if he hasn't played?

Kings only have 10 healthy bodies plus Sampson. Seems they need to get a scorer and a defender but their demise is Jan 10 and guaranteed contracts. There is no one out there waiting by the phone (Sprewell would cause a mass exodus by fans to the tower bridge to jump.....). Other than Garcia we have no true SF shooter-scorer and other than Kevin we are short a 2-guard as well. hmmmmm. what to do what to do? :o

Donno. But they don't play him. Unless they think he is best choice at the moment. I haven't seen him play but the 1 or 2 meaningless licks so am no judge of why to sign him.

They may not play him, but he does fulfill a role during practices, if nothing else.

;)

I can't recall the last time we let someone go right before the guaranteed contract clause kicked in.

Stretch that out to 48 minutes and we're talking Hall of Fame stats.

:D

We may have done something of the sort with Jabari, but I don't remember the details, and could very well be off.

I think they re-sign him. Until Bonzi (soon?) and SAR get back, Kings have 11 players active.

On one of his boards tonight, he out-fought someone for the ball aggressively.

I for one want to see more of Jamal. I mean, he can't do worse that the existing bench players. So why not?

we need better and not the same or worse and Jamal can't help yet

Jamal can't be worse. If he doesn't make any shots, its just like our bench. If he doesn't defend for a lick, then its just like our team. I think you are right about yet. If we are 20 - 40, then you put him in.

I don't know much about his post-defense, but Sampson is athletic, can block shots and is a good rebounder. Think he can score in the post also.

Well, if he could do all of those things he probably wouldn't have been released three times, attitude concerns or not.

But in a season dangerously close to being over before the halfway point, he has EXACTLY the skillset of which we need more. Because its so touch and go right now, doubt he will see any time whiel the Phily trio still lurks around eating up bench minutes. But once the miss the playoffs deed is done, if indeed it ends up being done, would really like to see what he has. I mean, why not? Been a long time since wins or losses were that irrelevant to the Kings, but once the season is lost playing young guys wiht potential is exactly the route to take.

He can do those things, at least the shot-blocking/rebounding/being athletic parts.

Also in an article or two over the summer about him, he seems to of matured from when he was first in the league.
