Grant Napear made a rare prediction.

Hmmm

There are two reasons that I give a little more weight to anything Grant says about possible trades:

(1) Napear has basically become a mouthpiece for Maloof Sports & Entertainment

(2) Unlike most radio hosts, he really doesn't talk about possible trades or speculate on roster moves very often.

I think at this point Peja needs to be moved. The Kings won't get value for him in a sign-and-trade this summer, and I don't want to see them pony up max or near-max dollars to retain him.

If he is dealt, I hope that either he is packaged with another talented player (Miller and/or Bibby) for a real star to build around, or that he is packaged with Kenny Thomas to get KT's attitude and contract out of Sacramento.

I wonder if Grant and Mike got wind of an impending trade when they were talking about KT looking as if he didn't want to be here. I wouldn't be upset if Petrie dumped Peja and Kenny for a high lottery pick and ending contracts. Maybe a deal with Toronto for Jalen Rose who could then be shipped off to the Knicks for Penny Hardway's ending deal.

The Kings are likely going to have a top ten pick this year, and maybe even top five. Throw in a pick from Toronto (likely top three) and even in this weak draft, maybe they land a real future star to build around.

Wallowing in mediocrity can very easily be self-perpetuating. Not good enough to really compete and not bad enough to land a stud in the draft, and without caproom to do much of anything.

A gamble has to be made one way or the other. If Petrie wants to compete, send Peja to Indiana for Artest if the Pacers are still interested. Otherwise, it's time to start blowing it up and rebuilding.

Looking over the last 3-4 pages of this thread I have a big problem with a Peja for Nene/Watson:
1. Nene is injured and was not the starter. How long before he can play at all? how long till he can play 30+ min?
The knee will be fine. He's young and athletic...don't we need some of that right now?

2. Why would we want 4 PGs? or do we trade Hart or Price?
Waive one of them...whatever.

3. Peja is 20+ ppg. Nene is not. He MAY be but he is not now prior to injury. so where do we get the missing points?
I'm no stat hound, but I know Peja isn't scoring 20ppg...besides, none of those points come when we need them, and that's the big problem with Peja. Where did we get the missing points when Peja was out the other night? Didn't seem to be a problem!

4. Peja to Pacers and Artest to Nuggets and Nene/Watson to Kings? Seems Kings are really the short end of those 3 sticks.
No way. A solid backup PG and a young, athletic big man? Seems like exactly what we need right now, and more importantly, into the future.

While I don't dispute anything you've said exactly, if a trade DOES come down I'm not going to be talking about what a great prediction Grant made. People on this board and vritually every other sports board on the Internet have been making the exact same predictions, so I guess my slight objection is just to giving Grant any credit for seeing something maybe no one else saw.

A deal for Peja in any form, or even the idea of a three way deal with Indiana, certainly didn't originate with Napear so I wouldn't give Grant any credit for being perceptive either.

But if a trade goes down, I'd think that perhaps he had some inside information, which he very well may have.

My point was that Grant isn't Peter Vescey. He doesn't throw out random trade rumors by the hundreds and then claim credit when one of them goes through. The fact that he has mentioned it only makes me think that such a deal may have legs, not that he has a great basketball mind.

This 'trade' also could involve SAR going to one team, Peja going to another, and the Kings getting something big from one or both teams in return, kinda like what happened in the Miller trade...Hedo to SA, Pollard to Indy, Miller to us.

Lets hope!:D That would really be good.

Wasn't Grant saying that we would trade Peja this time last year as well?????? ;)
As I recall exactly the opposite -- think in fact he made some remark to the effect that Petrie would never trade Peja unless he had no other option. But then again I'm not in the area and do not listen to him personally so all my info is second hand.

I don't think Grant has ever advocated trading Peja until this year, and only now because of the contract situation.

Now I'm confused. I thought that Grant simply mentioned that Peja could be involved in a possible deal. Did I miss something? I don't recall hearing that Grant - or anyone else connected to the Kings - had EVER advocated trading Peja.

To my knowledge, all he has mentioned is the possibility of him being involved in a deal, and awhile back he said that he expects Peja to be traded before the deadline. I don't think I've ever heard him say he WANTED Peja to be traded.

Advocate is not the right word. He’s said that Bibby and Miller are attractive to other teams and could be traded, but seems to emphasize Peja as the most likely candidate to go.

I can see at least 9 of our players getting interest around the leauge. All of them could be moved at some point. And then again none of them may be moved at all. Petrie strikes like a thief in the night. We most likely won't see it coming. If it does at all.

Oh yes, it's true...it's true!
