Could not disagree more with this sentiment. This is the exact RIGHT offseason to go add a talent to our core. Smart, Parker, Lavine, Anderson. We're in a rare off-season where we actually have some leverage on the market as one of the last teams with cap space left and basically everyone's cap sheet recovers next off-season. The Kings don't get many opportunities to get better during FA and there are still a lot of good young players who make us better.

Also, waiting until next off-season just brings us a year closer to having to pay everyone in the core. So if someone we did sign did end up busting, it's not going to hurt us long-term in keeping anyone we might want to keep.

Agreed. I heard CD this morning and frankly it was just stupid and smelled like sour grapes. There is no guarantee whatsoever that the Kings will get somebody noteworthy next year, even with all the cap room they have. This sentiment that the Kings' roster should be set is not only wrong, it's arrogantly stupid. The guy that the Kings apparently wanted was Hezonja. Now, apparently because they don't get Hezonja of all people they shouldn't make an offer on guys at least as good or better? What the.....:eek:. From your list, the only guy that I wouldn't make an offer is Parker because his injuries appear so severe.

We can't have wanted Hezonja THAT badly, it's not like New York's offer ($6.5M, one year) wasn't eminently beatable. I mean, people around here were throwing around the idea of 4/$40M and given our salary situation that really wouldn't have handcuffed us. Now we might potentially throw something like 4/$80M at LaVine when we couldn't beat 1/$6.5M for Hezonja? Doesn't sound to me we really wanted Hezonja if that's the case.

I don’t love any of the free agents left, but i agree with the general sentiment. It’s not often that the Kings are one of the few teams with room, and with multiple free agents available that actually fit the timeline of the youth movement.
 
If anything, I think the front office is wise right now in just sitting back and waiting for the dust to settle. The likelihood of them having to drastically overpay decreases with each passing day as the high-priced guys are getting all the play. There will still be some decent players left after the first week and I suspect that's what Vlade is looking towards. It's not like we're seriously thinking we're going to get a franchise player or future all-star at this point anyway. Get a serviceable player that will fit into our current plans and see what happens.

I don't see Boston letting Smart go. I don't see Mbah a Moute ever wanting to come back to Sacramento. That leaves Clint Capela. Not sure why we'd bring him when we're already building with two new bigs.

A Moute is the only 3 and D UFA remaining. I know there was some bad blood but where there is a will ($) there is a way.

The assumption you're making is the the $ amount was the determining factor. Not necessarily. All we heard about from the talking heads was Hezonja, Hezonja, Hezonja. So now we know we're not getting him, maybe because of the $, maybe because he didn't like the Kings, maybe he wanted a one year contract. So now what? Take our $ and go home for a year, only to hope and pray we might get somebody of note next year? Or add an asset to our team this year? I like the latter option. And I'm not going to suggest what the $ amount for LaVine should be. I'm just saying that there's no question in my mind that LaVine is a better player than Hezonja, so yes, I would hope they would offer him more than Hezonja.

Not necessarily. I cannot recall exactly where, but I do recall Mbah a Moute making it pretty clear he has no warm fuzzy feelings about Sacramento. Besides that, he's 31 years old and doesn't nothing as far as improving our young core. The fact he's "the only 3 and D UFA remaining" doesn't make him more attractive in my book. To me it's a move that smacks of desperation. We're committed to a youth rebuild. You have to bite the bullet and continue or all is for naught. Besides all that, with Trevor Ariza gone, I think Houston is going to make a move to keep Luc in the fold.
 
I'm putting my Jabari Parker option back on the table. He can be our hybrid PF/SF and even come off the bench if needed. We don't have any bigs who can stretch the floor.

accumulate as much talent as we can please.
 
Having watched Frank Mason for these 3 games in SL and last year, Sac may want to consider offering Marcus Smart. He’s a junkyard dog, can be the backup at PG, and get minutes at SG and SF.....though undersized, he’s incredibly tough in the post. Celtics probably match but he’s a guy that upgrades our roster.

Yeah to me Mason is at his very best a 3rd PG and despite the fact Marcus Smart can't shoot the dude would bordelrine die out there for any team he plays for, I would love if we signed Smart he could teach Fox a thing or two about defense as well and give us some serious toughness and a guy who plays well at the same time. With Smart also I think some of these softer players we have on the team would probably be scared not to play hard with him lurking around.

Getting Smart would also allow us to move Bogi or Hield if they don't live up to the "potential" or what we expect of them. I would offer him 3 year 27-30million (Exum I think got slightly more).

According to Jones, who I don’t take 100%, we did in fact go after Hezonja but he preferred a 1 year deal.. Oh well, doesn’t seem like I will get my preference

I've read that multiple places as well. It seems like he connected well with Fizdale and was good with the 1 year bet-on-himself contract.

Good tough player. Would gladly take him. Nice burst. can finish strong. Gets nice lift on his jumpshot. can shoot in tight spaces. Lots to like.

i'd say 2-3mil is his market value and he'd be the backup and Mason 3rd string.

He is crafty around the basket. Good jumper. Lots to like. Much more comfortable with him as backup pg

Houston may not even be able to afford capela, Luc may very well slip through the cracks.

How is getting a really good defensive wing "smack of desperation." We should be "desperate" to improve our perimeter defense.

Defending the 3 ball amd rebounding are imho the greatest areas of need. A moute is a step in the right direction for the former. His corner 3 is money in the gmes i watched last year.

I agree he doesnt fit the youth movement, but the entire team shouldn't be entirely composes of youths.

Getting a "good defensive wing" that's 31 years old smacks of desperation because it doesn't help in the long run. It's a bandaid fix IMHO - and that's not even addressing the elephant in the room. It was not a friendly parting between Mbah a Moute and the Kings and there's no guarantee he'd even entertain the idea of returning.

I agree that the entire team shouldn't be comprised entirely of kids, but I just have a fundamental (but respectful) disagreement with you on Luc.

Not to mention Smart looks like Cousins' little brother which would strike fear in any player that was on the roster 2 years ago.
