Free Agency Thread - 2018

The Clippers are insanely loaded at the guards spots including even someone like Thornwell, I would inquire about Beverely to be a back up PG/ran double PG with Fox is we fail to get Smart.

Lou/Bradley/Thornwell/SGA/Teo/Pat just not enough playing time to go around.

Why can't the Kings just front load the heck out of an offer to Hood so as to make it untenable for the Cavs to match, but still have it cap friendly in the following years?

Cavs will probably still match. Read somewhere today they are putting Korver on the trade block, if so, then I'd say that would be pointing to the Cavs keeping Hood.

Hood isn't my favorite fit for the Kings but they need shooting and talent so why not?

Cause he only averages 2-3 rebounds per game. And we can probably get the same production out of J Jackson.

Vlade should trade target a SF that can defend the toughest wing, rebound solidly and stretch the floor.

I think the backup PG spot is where they should add some scoring. Napier is still out there.

Because such a contract is not allowed by the CBA. At most we can offer him a contract that decreases at 5% per year.

Please back up your hyperbole with real stats and facts. Hood was averaging 17ppg for the Jazz for 3 years.

Hood would also be the best perimeter defender on the Kings. That’s based on pure stats.

Mentioning Jackson as a starter is comical. Because he had a couple decent scoring games in a Summer League. He Sucks. He wouldn’t be a third option on a decent team. He will be out of the league within a couple years.

Jackson will Never, Ever come close to averaging 17ppg for a whole season.

Hood is not amazing. But, he would be the Best SF the Kings have had in a decade. Including, Rudy Gay.

Signing a young prospect to battle Jackson for the starting spot makes zero sense.

Since the Kings are so great at developing these types of players. Spurs, Dubs, yes. Kings, not so much.

You obviously don’t know or watch basketball.

Haha, yah okay man. You caught me.

17 ppg for 3 years?
he averaged 16.8 ppg one year.
& 12.7 and 14.5 the two other years..?

And the year he averaged 16.8 he only played 39 games...

I want a small forward who can defend AND rebound, 3 boards a game is weak.

The most that Hood has averaged in a season is 14.7 pts (this year). If you compare their rookie years, they put up very similar numbers.

Are we looking at the same Rodney Hood? Funny how the playoffs start and Rodney forgot his big boy pants. And no not just with the Cav's. Numbers don't lie.

Smart doesn't back down and doesn't need to score to impact a game. Give me that guy 10 times out of 10.

This table shows Rodney Hood's on/off stats. The big number is the percentile he's in for each stat. You guys see a trend in there? He's getting progressively worse.

If I told you that Hood was going to show up and score 17ppg with 39% from three, most everyone would be happy. That's what he put up in half a season with Utah this last year. Those numbers got him a -8.9 on/off which put him in the 13th percentile in the league.

Jabari parker - not good

Marcus Smart - better

Buddy Hield - MVP!!!

Ok so obviously the stats can be swayed by whether you start or not and they can be swayed by the other guys you play with but it's pretty telling to me when many of these "big numbers" guys people want seem to have their teams all get better once they leave the floor. If we were trying to pick guys like that up for the bench, it would be alright. But if we are picking them up to start or play a lot of minutes, those numbers aren't going to change a whole lot.

The stats are more effective for Smart, Parker and Hood because they all played for decent to playoff teams. Hield's numbers are over inflated because the Kings starters were so bad most the time that the only place to go from there was up. Smart, Parker and Hood played in good rotations so their numbers are a bit more accurate as far as determining their value on the court.

Most I would go is a Avery Bradley type deal of 25 over 2 years.
This is one of the most logical posts in terms of offers. If we are (actually) interested offer a similar deal to A. Bradley, bit aim maybe for a longer term such as 3 yrs.

Players really like to say look, so-n-so got so much money, thats how much I want. Look at Capela, he's like S. Adams got 100 mil.

Watch out for that one young kid calling you a nerd and saying that he will beat your mathematican a*s in 1-1.

If Kings are not going after Parker:
I sure hope we get an offer sheet on Hood, maybe 30-36 mil over 3 yrs
on 7/14 maybe get Milos if Clippers let him go
Gets us to 15 players with a potential starting SF and backup PG

Hood is the one guy I don't want... Which means that's probably who we're gonna sign. Capella would be great, I'm for acquiring assets however we can. Smart would be cool. Hood is such a meh player.

While I'm dredging the dregs of leftover FA, how going after another Jabari, and also a Celtic Bird... Jabari Bird. RFA who the Celts probably can't afford to resign. Especially if they resign Smart.

Having a nice summer league and showed flashes last season with the Celts. But he's behind Smart, Rozier, Tatum, Brown, Hayward... etc etc etc.

OK, I'm gonna take a break from this now.
