This table shows Rodney Hood's on/off stats. The big number is the percentile he's in for each stat. You guys see a trend in there? He's getting progressively worse.
If I told you that Hood was going to show up and score 17ppg with 39% from three, most everyone would be happy. That's what he put up in half a season with Utah this last year. Those numbers got him a -8.9 on/off which put him in the 13th percentile in the league.

Marcus Smart - better

Ok so obviously the stats can be swayed by whether you start or not and they can be swayed by the other guys you play with but it's pretty telling to me when many of these "big numbers" guys people want seem to have their teams all get better once they leave the floor. If we were trying to pick guys like that up for the bench, it would be alright. But if we are picking them up to start or play a lot of minutes, those numbers aren't going to change a whole lot.
The stats are more effective for Smart, Parker and Hood because they all played for decent to playoff teams. Hield's numbers are over inflated because the Kings starters were so bad most the time that the only place to go from there was up. Smart, Parker and Hood played in good rotations so their numbers are a bit more accurate as far as determining their value on the court.
