Free agency coming July 1

We need a real floor general PG that can play defense. Not some scrub that is a streaky 3pt shooter and nothing else. His defense is OK at best

For what it's worth (which isn't much) jason jones says after speaking with people, those expecting big FA news will be disappointed .

If right and only referencing FA signings, wouldn't be a huge surprise since we don't have the space.

Yeah, I don't know why anyone would be expecting any significant FA signings anyway given our lack of cap space. Most we can hope for is a S+T with IT, or a MLE type signing. Any further improvements will likely have to be made through trades, and we don't really have many assets. Could be a disappointing off-season but hoping it's not.

Based on our financial situation we wont be major players in FA. It will have to be with trades. Our upcoming season will be better than last year but still not great. PDA wont be able to get everything all at once, and it will take a few years to get there. Even when we got good really quick, grabbing Vlade CWebb, JWill, it took us several years to piece all that together. (Hedo, BJax, Bibby etc). Same here. It will take a few years. I think in the madden generation where you can revamp your roster in 5 minutes, some, not all, want it now. The Maloof stench still smells really bad and a lot of us are scared we wont be active at all and will just get by. It is a feeling that will take a while to get rid of. We aren't used to a group that is actively willing to improve the roster. It will take some time. And we will get there. And it will feel great when we do.

let's just hope gerbil can show some restraint on giving another landry type contract. we should be players in this FA but we took on DWill via MBAHMOUTE & Carl.

Just to be clear (capn?) we have no capspace regardless of what IT does, or what we do with him, and, we can use the MLE to exceed. Can we use the MLE on more than one player? Is it the full MLE?

As expected, the Warriors will let G Jordan Crawford become an unrestricted free agent after deciding not to extend him a qualifying offer.

That's a major reason most of us were immediately negative about that Landry deal.

That's also why you do your best to use a valuable asset like the #8 to fix important needs on this roster, rather than on a SG for the 2nd consecutive draft. Yes Stauskas looks like a good prospect for us but once you sit back and ask how we're now going to fill a number of our holes, you see we have few options.

Offering IT a contract similar to Landry's would be more of the same. It limits options/flexibility down the road. We didn't even win 30 games this year. Paying more for largely the same roster plus Stauskas going into next year is not something I'm on board with.

With all the rumors we've been involved in over the last year, if we did something as simple as NOT move Robin Lopez to Portland in the trade and kept him, then traded our pick last year for the heavily rumored Lowry deal, we'd be looking far better right now.

chalmers aint bad but cmon, FULL MLE on a role player?

Let's be frank about the Kings Free Agent situation. This is with any free agent with credible credentials. We will have to pay a premium for them to come to Sacramento. If you give someone like Chalmers or Darren Collison a $4 million a year contract and he gets a similar or even slightly lower offer, say $3.5 million from a contender or desirable city (i.e. New York or Dallas (no state taxes)) then the Kings would have no chance at getting decent Free Agents to come to Sacramento.

Any Free Agent with options would probably not pick the Kings if they had equal or fairly close offers from another teams. Therefore, the need to overpay for some of the more desirable free agent targets.

That is why, the Kings may need to re-sign IT for say 4 years/$32 million and then if he continues to play well, they can keep him or use him as trade bait. If you let him walk for nothing, then they would have even less options.

I have no faith in the Kings right now. I am concerned that they will have the same team as last year. However I sure hope they prove me wrong.

Same here. Idk what kid of team we are trying to build, but if most of our money is tied up in DMC, IT, and Gay I just don't see us being that successful. I really wish we would've built around DMC the same way the Magic built around Howard.

Yes, this exactly. I wonder if the FO is trying too hard or over thinking this. The opportunities have been staring them in their face.

Eric Bledsoe. This is one guy that I want to go after and I will be disappointed if we don’t even try to get him. He’s a really good defensive and offensive point guard and he also knows how to pass the ball. I hope we make a offer…And I’m not saying that we’re going to get him or not (I hope we do), but I do think he’d be a great fit over here and I want to make a attempt at getting him.

Kinda curious what you are referencing there, as one of the very first things the Magic did was overpay for a borderline All Star SF to be Howard's #2 (Lewis). Even added on a runt score first PG (Nelson).

Of course frankly I have long thought that the Magic flat fouled up their build around Howard with a smallball crap mentality. You get one big guy, PLAY BIG. Smash. Crush. Be the ogre in the closet. Don't run around in flippin' tutus apologizing for having a big guy and depending on him to do all the big guy stuff while you stack the roster with a merry band of chucking tweeners and runts. Shocker they never own anything.

I think PDA has to go Point Guard first and foremost.

They will probably offer IT a nice contract of say 7-8million a year for 4 years. They will have to put a time constraint on the offer (i.e. 48 hours, like to Andre Igudola) and if he doesn't sign, they will move on and offer the full MLE to Mario Chalmers or Darren Collison.

A rim protector or shot blocker will come next and they will chose from a few low budget, need to prove they can stay healthy type guys like Emeka Okafor or Andreis Biedrens. Otherwise, they will need a trade for a rim protector.

Ewwww. IT is worth maybe $4-$5M to the Kings and Okafor/Biedrens are not rim protectors nor a help for Kings. Moreland in summer league has a better chance and when Sim (he of 7-5, 300+) improves conditioning, who knows how much he could help in time. Since they are in 2nd year of a 2-3 year build am willing to wait and see what comes down between now and July 10 then thru summer league.

when your spending that much $$ you have to look at other options. can lowry be had for 8m/yr? we aint winning many games with IT chucking away. IT signed at 8m/yr is going to be really difficult to move.. you know why? we overpaid! they know we overpaid and will offer us an equally bad contract(s) in exchange. why was rudy available? bad contract.

I put Isaiah between 4-6 mil. At that price range i resign him without thinking. Anymore and i explore sign and trade possibilities. This of course doesnt mean that i wouldnt be open to moving him after resigning him for 4-6 mil. At 4-6 id only move him if the deal gives me the perfect piece that im looking for.

Already reports of Detroit talking 3/24. He's getting 6+ at least imo. Good for him, not great for the Kings unless they can work a S&T or just be happy with having IT back at that sort of salary range.

I laugh at people that would just let Isaiah walk. Regardless of what you think of him, he is a big asset, and we will never be able to sign someone similar to his value through free agency. If his value is $4-$6 million you match no questions asked. People argue that we suck with IT and we will never win with him, I'd argue we sucked because we had players like John Salmons, Chuck Hayes, Greivis Vasquez, Travis Outlaw, Jimmer Freddette, Marcus Thornton as our rotation players. This team NEEDS talent, and IT has proven he can take it to the best PG's in the league, we can't say that about Ray Mac, even guys like Darren Collison(which I like), have been backup journeymen for a reason. We were a .500 team with Cousins, Rudy, and IT as our main guys having no time to build up chemistry. I for one would not think it the worst thing if we can get the right role players around them(having a shooter like Stauskas out there is a good start for floor spacing). But also a rim protector and some wing defenders, hopefully Ray Mac develops into that defensive backup PG we want. A full training camp together and I would expect Cuz and IT to both improve their games from last year(Cuz to a bigger degree), but even IT is going to get better with game management. Thats just my opinion, if the goal is to try and win now(outside of pulling of a Rondo trade), this is our best path.

im ok with 4-6 mil (more ok with 4 :p) but when you start talking about 8 mil range. that is when we have to really think about it. i like IT, i think he is a really good player. i dont hate him starting as much as some but i would prefer him as a 6th man. i just dont think i would pay 8 mil for him.

I would love him as a 6th man too(and if we ever become a winning team, I envision him as our B-Jax) but as of right now there is no reason to go into negotiations saying Ray Mac is our starter and we want you as our 6th man. You say we want you going forward, you will start next season, then as you become a winning team and maybe Ray Mac emerges as starter quality(or you sign the right vet), you make that transition. Getting a rim protector alone will help this team so much.

@AlexKennedyNBA: The Boston Celtics were first team to call restricted free agent Isaiah Thomas when free agency started, per source. Danny Ainge called.

i really have no idea why anyone would think we should start ray over IT at this point in their careers.
