Draft position thread

Yeah, I actually think we are too, but I do think there's a good chance we finish with the worst record. OKC is better than their record and has been actually playing well recently. Washington will get better if Arenas comes back. Clippers will be better again when Randolph, BD and Kaman all come back in the next two weeks. And the Wolves are also playing better. We can guarentee ourselves a top 4 pick here.

That's good, because Reynolds seemed to say last night that there would only be four of five impact players in the draft. If we end up six or seven, it could be all the pain would be for naught.

Yeah that would suck. But remember, even if we finish with the 3rd worst record, we can still slip down to 6th, but no worse. And it happens, just ask the Celtics and Grizzlies in the Oden-Durant draft.

Anyway, props to the Wolves for going on a 3gm win streak, and playing OKC tonight. that must be their longest win streak since Garnett left

Go OKC! Go Clipps! Go T-Wolves! Go Grizzlies! I don't think I've ever routed so hard for other teams to win since I became a Kings fan.:D

Here is the latest standing. OKC is on a roll, winning 3 of last 4. We're only one game ahead of the Wizard and two ahead of the Thunder. Yah wossing!

1 Oklahoma City .158
2 Washington .194
3
Sacramento .216
4 LA Clippers .222
5 Golden State .263
6 Memphis .297
7 Minnesota .306
8 Indiana .361
9 Charlotte .368
10 New York .371
11 Chicago .432
12 Toronto .432
13 Philadelphia .444
14 Utah .595
15 Milwaukee .462
16 New Jersey .486
17 Miami .543
18 Phoenix .606
19 Portland .611
20 Dallas .611
21
Houston .615
22 Atlanta .629
23 Detroit .629

Minn and OKC won tonight. Things are looking up. OKC beat Detroit. I think Washington did as well. OKC may overtake us. Those games we play against OKC in the remainder of the season could be huge.

OKC: 8-33
WAS: 8-31
LAC: 8-30
SAC: 10-31
MEM: 11-28
GSW: 12-29
MIN: 12-26

From this, I reckon we'll get 3rd or 4th, maybe 5th if we win more games. Washington and Oklaoma City might get ahead of us looking at their last couple of games. I highly doubt Memphis will drop below us but they could because of their current L5 streak. Clippers will probably keep on losing. GSW and MIN will probably get more wins and extend their lead over us.
So the Kings will probably get a top 5 draft pick for 2009.

Don't give up this early. If we can trade Brad for cap space before the trade deadline, we'll be lucky to win 6 games in the 2nd half of the season.

2 or 3 more years? Are you INSANE? We've already been out of the playoffs like 3 years. I might just kill myself if that happens.

We took too long to initiate this process, and now we have to finally pay the piper. This was the danger I repeatedly warned about -- by wasting our time chasing #8s we have already exhausted the fanbase and chased them out of the building before we even got STARTED on the rebuild. Just dumb. But it is what it is, and now that we are here, and in the still very tough Western Conference, its just going to take time. If we handle this competently however I would be surprised if things weren't on the rebound by the '10-'11 season (2 years from now). Maybe not playoffs, but at least clearly a team on the rise. There should be some formerly elite teams falling by that point too, so there will begin to be room at the bottom of the playoff bracket.

Sucks when I can't decide if I want them to win or lose.
Some nights I find myself wanting to win for pride, others I'm like screw it.

Next year will probably suck too. Probably better than this year though. After that it will get better. Hold off on buying the rope for now...

Update, following our crushing lin over Balkman, Weems & Co.

1. OKC 8-34 .190
2. Was 8-32 .200
3. LAC 9-31 .225
4. Sac 10-32 .238
5. Mem 11-29 .275
6. GSW 13-29 .310
7. Min 13-27 .325
8. Ind 15-27 .357
9. Tor 16-27 .372
10. Cha 16-25 .390

rest - so far out of our league there's no point in mentioning them.

Forecast: Our only significant chance of a woss this month will come tomorrow night versus Washington. Although it is a back-to-back, most of our players are still very well rested. That game will be one of Washington's two chances for a woss this month, the remainder of their schedule is against playoff-bound teams, until they play the Clips on the 31st.

OKC's schedule is much easier, they might well wose a couple of games before the end of the month. Likewise for LAC and Memphis. If our luck holds, almost anything is possible in the next couple of weeks. I don't dare hope for the #1 spot at this point, it's pretty unlikely, but if we manage a lin over Washington tomorrow night... it could happen. And #2-#3 are within the realm of possibility, even with a woss.

beauty of the lottery is we dont need to have the worst record to have the first pick.. I think its been a while since the team with the best chance to land the first overall pick actually landed it ...
