Apparently you missed the part where ranchers (not farmers, as you don't "farm" cows) like to keep their cows from wandering off their property, hence the fencing to keep them in one place. ;)

Can't you just click on them (the cows) and select "stay"?

Elwyn? That's what, 10 miles away? That's ..... um, quite a stretch. I was talking near the airport, not a day's hike. Sure, there are a few cows scattered around within 20 miles of the airport, nobody is arguing THAT.

No, I don't google my way through cow country, but none of the fields near the airport are suited for cattle. That is what I was explaining. Apparently you missed the part where ranchers (not farmers, as you don't "farm" cows) like to keep their cows from wandering off their property, hence the fencing to keep them in one place. ;)

Dude, you were the one to reference Elkhorn and Elverta. I was just following your lead. Elverta hits Elwyn.

And no, there are no cows "directly east of the airport" - that area also is agricultural, but without animals. Do a google search for Sacramento, CA, click on the map (first item listed), pan/zoom to the northwest as needed, and do a Street View on Powerline Road just next to the airport. Not a cow to be seen, and no fences to keep cows in if they were there on occasion, which they are not. Do the same along Elkhorn or Elverta. Again, no cows.

And about the fence, I don't think you can point to a fence and call it a "cow fence" vs any other rural fencing. That's why I questioned the googling around for fences to see cows. And I did say that where the cows were are too far to smell, and you were right about the winds. But it seems like people here take the "NOT A COWTOWN!!!" thing way too far on the other side and proclaim the only cows are south of Elk Grove and North to Yuba City. It's just not true. We have cows. They smell sometimes. A lot of times. But damn if they don't taste delicious. Nothing to be ashamed of.

*sigh* Devil's advocate in here is harder than the other threads.

Thank goodness there is a game tomorrow...

And for some reason I am now craving Chick Fil A. Poor cows, in whatever state, county or city you live in!

Elkhorn, Elverta, and Powerline all abut the airport. Elwyn is nowhere close. That is like me mentioning that I-5 is close to ARCO arena and you say that so is Disneyland, because it is by I-5, too. :p

And if you looked in the photos, there are no fences at all. That was my point.

But I do agree with you on them tasting delicious - nothing like a good tri-tip or ribeye. MMMMMMM!

I think he’s just trying to start a rivalry. It’s good for the NBA ;) ….on a side note, I hope we kick their butt.

What's the problem with cows anyway?? I grew up on a farm, thus cattle were everywhere. Heck, I had a black and white steer that was literally like a dog to me. He would come running when I called his name, and would let me snuggle with him when I was a child. I miss Boots...
You named your pet cow "boots"? Dare I ask where he is now...
I guess it was better than "Sofa".:D

I have never lived in Sac. However, I do drive up there frequently from the bay area, for either Kings games or to see my sister. I would guess, that on about 80% of my trips to Sac, I see cows. Not a big deal, but it is what it is.

Maybe because I've never lived there I don't understand how some of you are so offended by what Jennings said. I personally could care less. Much worse is said on the court, and you prove yourself as a player on the court, not on twitter. I wouldn't get to bent out of shape over it at this point. When we become a playoff team again, this whole cowtown thing will re-surface. And if Sacramento as a whole really doesn't like that stereotype, they probably shouldn't have brought so many damn cowbells to games on national tv.

Hrmm...

Even I grok why locals might take offense, even if I don't think it's a big deal myself.

Locals shouldn't take offense though. Sacto's little brother syndrome gets tiring.
Inferiority issues everywhere. And most locals don't even know the best places to go.

Here's a tidbit for every time you want to get upset that people mention cows and Sacramento: They're envious.

Mention to a bay area guy or a socal inhabitant how you can drive out to the middle of nowhere and actually collect your own thoughts amongst trees, grass, birds and silence. Mention how you can then you can turn around and quickly return home. See how they feel about it. They normally say "I wish I could do that." or "I miss that." It's not like the bay area, where there's just city and more city until you hit more and more subarbia. It's not like socal where driving out to get away either means mexico or Didion's Bakersfield nightmare manifested.

"Sacramento has cows"

"It's nice, isn't it?"

And then pray the city doesn't end up a fatter Modesto/Fresno.

Where are you seeing Cows coming from the bay area? Once you hit West Sacramento on 80 you won't see a single cow if you drive on 80 for about 40-50 miles (maybe even more) and you may never see a single cow on 50 until well into El Dorado county.

I'm not trying to knit pick, but I'm just trying to figure out where all these people are seeing these cows that I somehow never see.

It's a special gift...

Oh, it is no big deal - I grew up near a lot of cattle. Cows are great, because they give me dinner, belts, and footwear. That and they are in some pretty funny commercials sometimes and were instrumental in one funny scene in "Monty Python and the Holy Grail." :D

I'm just sayin' there are no cows near the airport or the arena.

(laughing at cstorm's photo) - Nice!

Hey what's wrog with Modesto? Btw, Sac is like 3 times bigger than Modesto.

Well, I grew up in Loomis and now live in San Jose (after stops in SF and Oakland). I understand what you're trying to say, but you're way overstating things. I can drive up 280 from San Jose to San Francisco and within 15 minutes I do not see a building in site. I also see a number of cows. Similar if I drive up 680 to Pleasanton, drive into Marin, on the great american highway, hang out in golden gate park....etc.

Sacramento is a great place to live. In some ways I wish I still lived there, but in others I'm glad I'm where I'm at.

Well, most of the talks about cows have been in a joking manner, although I doubt that Jennings actually smelled cow.

Yes, he did obviously get folks riled up about his comment, so it worked...or may backfire in the game.

Cowtown is just another way some peopel make themselves feel superior. If they live in the "big city," then cowtown is just another snooty, snobby, snotty way to put down the supposedly ingnorant, uncultured, uneducated, tasteless "rubes or, hicks." Would you or would you not feel insulted if someone said you were a rube, a hick or just fell off the turnip truck?

A lot of folks in SF have always acted that way toward LA and both LA and SF have acted that way toward Sacramento. So we do get a little ruffled over what calling us a "cowtown" implies. It really has nothing to do with numbers of cows.

The metro Milwaukee area has fewer people than the metro Sacramento area. Sacramento is a bigger city, period. We just happen to be in a state with two much bigger metro areas. In Wisconsin, Milwaukee is THE big city, though. At least I don't have to wear long underwear in the winter. ;)

Next time the Kings go to the Milwaukee

When Tyreke gets off the plane next year when we play the Bucks in Milwaukee, he should say "did someone just fart? this place smells like cheese"

By the way Mr. Jennings, I hope you like this Sunny California weather because it calls for snow in cheese town Milwaukee tomorrow, while Sac is sunny and 78!!

One other thing Brandon, you think you should be rookie of the year because your team is winning. I looked at the schedule from last year and this time last year your team had 31 wins, while you have 36 now so that is a +5, which is good but we have 6 more wins this year at the same point of the season, so Tyreke even smashes that dumb theory. Who's your daddy now?

Note: You guys are free to post whatever you like on Twitter, but it doesn't mean it's appropriate for here.

And no offense whatsoever, but hurling childish insults at Andrew Bogut doesn't do much to bolster our case for being legitimate and not a bunch of puerile cow tippers. Geez...

Who insulted Bogut? Thats just wrong, he hasn't done anything to us. bogut is a baller, I like that guy. Of course, the fact that he is tearing it up for my fantasy squad has a lot to do with that....:D

I've seen a lot of cows walking along K Street Mall...haven't you?:D
