Someone didn't get the memo the Kings were in town, unless the Los Angeles Clippers were going the extra mile for good sportsmanship. The towering sign next to the Staples Center read "KINGS RULE!" just hours before tipoff, a reference to the hockey team that shares the facility.
Kaman relief
Until the Kings pass the Kaman test, they'll never know about their interior defense. Clippers center Chris Kaman didn't play Friday night because he was attending a relative's funeral. The third-year 7-footer - whose long hair and caveman look could get him work as the abominable snowman at nearby Disneyland - became the poster boy for the Kings' weaknesses down low last season, when he averaged 16.3 points and 10 rebounds in four games against Sacramento, though the Kings won all four meetings. Overall, Kaman averaged 9.1 points and 6.7 rebounds per game in 2004-05.
Saying hello
Kings point guard Mike Bibby made a point to say hello to an old friend and teammate, new Clipper Cuttino Mobley, before tipoff.
Then Mobley came with a whole different greeting, yelling "Mike" right in his ear in the first quarter as Bibby shot from the left side. Bibby missed, then ran up the floor grinning. Of playing with Mobley last season, Bibby said: "It was good - short but still good. I thought he'd be here longer than what he was. Of course (I wanted him back)."
