Your opinions on #4

What were your expectations and has he fufilled them?

  • Are you Kidding? This is C-Webb! I never doubted him for a second. He's been our MVP this year.

    Votes: 47 50.5%
  • He surprised me big stats+clutch shots!I never thought we would be 30-13 with #4 in the offense.

    Votes: 34 36.6%
  • He's better than last year(barely) I'm not sure hes durable, + he's not 1/2 the player he was.

    Votes: 5 5.4%
  • He's too selfish. The offense is better when he is not in it. He can't play D or Rebound!

There is not an option for me to vote, sadly (or gladly, take yer pick!).

KP, you didn't leave much room for bashing with your choices...you are clever and, like me, enjoy your ability to post here! But call me disappointed...

Between you and VF patroling the thread (25 posts, roughly 42%), maybe no one felt really inclined to say what they feel, I dunno.

Here's where I get on a limb and swing wildly...
Webber may have lit up January, and Kings record reflect status quo from last year. Albeitrue, I don't see Webber as being the "ONE" to take us to the promised land. I see it as a collective team effort, and as long as Web plays within himself and doesn't expect the team to climb onto his back, we should contend in the PO's. I don't really understand what Web does -- or doesn't do -- on the halfcourt to stop the other players in their tracks, but the offense just flows more smoothly when he isn't a part of it. I like what I see from others when Web isn't involved. I'd like to see Songalia get more development. These are not players incapable of stepping up every game, but why is their game hampered when Web is in? Peja is the biggest loser of Web's high post play, imo. I would like to see more down low play from Web.

Now, while the above may not get me banned, I got more BABY... but I can live without saying it. :p

YOU ... more than anybody knows I AM A C-WEBB SUPPORTER !!!

With that said, there's validity in the things that you say. But, my rebuttal is this ....

I'm hoping that C-Webbs's AGE (getting wiser) and HOBBILITY (if that's a word) are contributing to "playing within himself" ... that's what I'd like to believe. His desires to be a PG, throw-up ILL-ADVISED shots and INADVERTENTLY slow the game down ... is his ATHLETIC MIND and STUBBORNESS trying to convince him HE CAN DO IT ALL.

I could be totally OFF-BASE HERE (and I'm sure those that disagree will let me know) ... but, C-Webb is maturing his state-of-mind from DENIAL to ACCEPTANCE.

I say give him time .... I believe he'll come thru and prove to himself and us he's not ABOVE THIS GAME or HIS TEAMMATES.

People who are uncomfortable with the idea of one player to lead us, who fall back onto the "team team team" idea repeatedly, I think are falling for a bit of fool's gold. We have done magnificently with our "team" approach over the years, but we have ALWAYS been fighting history. And not successfully either -- we have never won. "Teams" don't win championships, "teams" with clear cut leaders do. Last year was the lone exception since...the 70's probably. And Detroit was kind of a freak thing. We have resorted to the tactic because we have never had that one dominant personality who would lead, take the big shots, be "the man".

Well, now we do, if he can hold it together. And a whole generation of Kings fans raised on the idea of "team team team" is uncomfortable with it. But they shouldn't be. This is how great teams are made. Team team team was always a contingency plan, never a choice by us. You want to win it all? Find a leader + follow him. You win with Magic, Bird, Erving, Zeke, Jordan, Hakeem, Duncan, Shaq. You win with great players playing great and leading, and then everybody else filling in around them, the pressure off. We've never had that because our two best players were always taking a back seat. Well, no longer. And that's a very good thing.

Over the years we have always wondered who was going to step up. Always wondered why the team let down sometimes. Lack of accountability, confused lines of who was SUPSOSED to take over, who's responsibility it was to make things happen are as good a reason as any. There's no confusion right now. Webb's taken it upon himself to lead, and that is a tremendous development for us.

P.S. Until he actually does it there will remain the open question of whether this Chris Webber, coming off of that surgery, is good enough anymore to lead us to a championship. But barring a major collapse in the second half, it is clear now he has taken responsibility on himself for doing so. That he's going to take his best shot, and then we'll see.

Hey I only put the options up there, I didn't vote 90 times

! The Poll was private for a reason, and neither discussion or bashing was really the point. There is a lot of very smart and informed people on this forum (much smarter than you or me
icon12.gif
) and all of them had the ability to vote with complete annonymity. Not everyone who thinks Webb is exceding their expectations in almost every way, is a Webber Homer! I guess you can add the NBA to the list of Webber Homers as he was named player of the month for January. Everyone thought the team was playing so well last year when Webb was out and they were... but this years team is already on a similiar pace. Add to that the Defensive numbers which are just better this year and this team just seems better built for the postseason(too bad the rest of the West has closed the gap). Is Webber perfect? No he still seems stubborn at times when his shots not falling and he still has off nights (I'm pretty sure due to some pain), But come on, his stats are back up... and game winning 3's??? Id say this poll has just about run it's course and I respect everyones opinion that voted but If you (not just you AT the royal "You"
icon10.gif
) were one of those who didn't vote for the first or second one you just have to face the fact that you are in a very small minority(at least around here), which is fine ... like I said earlier the Webber debate cannot be concluded until after the entire playoffs, but if your pessimistic about what you've seen to this point I don't really get it.

P.S. its really hard writing poll questions about Chris Webber with less than 100 characters... you try it!

That being said I thought anyone could see the 4 different levels of happiness/frustration and vote about where they fit in, even if they didn't agree with everything in them. --Read my first post

Okay, you've convinced me KP...naw! Actually, #2 is the closest to what I believe, but I just believe MORE about Web than his stats & some clutch plays. I believe he's an authentic, true athelete. His recovery and current stats do prove this.

Your poll proves most believe in Web, I just don't. If anyone else could lead this team, I would welcome it. HOWEVER, I will gladly eat crow if Kings can at least get to the WCF's with Web at the helm. THEN, I'll believe. I hope that doesn't decrease my value as a fan to you or others, is all.

P.S. I LIVE to hear from those smarter than me, I learn a lot from these forums. Also, why would anyone not want others to know how they voted, isn't that the purpose of discussion threads, to tell the truth? ;)

Not everyone is as talkitive as me and you, and to be completely honest I thought the whole annonymous thing would work more against Webb then for him... Guess I was wrong.

Why would me "patrolling the thread" have any effect on an anonymous vote?

Most of my posts were directed at specific posts by either KP or swisshh. Am I only supposed to be a moderator and not have opinions?

To imply that KP would have been banned for not having a bashing option in his poll is insulting.
Guess I was feeling a little full of myself, but I was only jesting, sorry. I actually would have been disappointed if ANYONE would incite bashing of any player. I really need to use those emoticons better... :(

I just think that a "poll" thread should be free of a lot of opinions on others' opinions. It's hard enough for some (me included) to give a free opinion when I think someone is going to minimize what I say by laughing at it with their words.

Trying to convince others that, in this case, Web is (fill in the blanks here) is cool, I can live with that.

Again, sorry VF and KP.
