Houston Rockets center Yao Ming broke his left foot when another player stepped on it late in the first quarter against Utah on Monday night.

Yao appeared to be injured when Utah's Andrei Kirilenko stepped on his foot while the two were under the basket. Yao got the offensive rebound and converted the three-point play after Kirilenko was called for a foul.

After making the layup, Yao bent down and rubbed his left foot before going to the line. He left the game about a minute later.

Yao, averaging 22.6 points and 10.3 rebounds, had five points, two rebounds and a block in 8:31 before leaving the game.

Houston was already without leading scorer Tracy McGrady, who is out for the rest of the season with a back injury.

Houston will sit Yao for the season, and the Rockets and Timberwolves will go down to the wire to see which team can tank the hardest...

I have to wonder how badly his foot was hurt last night and if this injury just exacerbated the situation...

I do not like to see any team have their key personnel go down with turnips this late in the season...

I hate to hear that, it's been an awful season for Rockets but as they're out of PO contention, if it had to happen this would be the best time. It gives him plenty of time to recover.

Yep. Their season is over anyways, they are playing for pride, so let some of the others play more and see what you've got for next year.
