Amick just tweeted that Hayes agent says the Kings have a leg up on every other team looking to sign him, but they'll wait till after XMas to decide
would we resign Chuck Hayes?

That's....strange. Unless we are waiting to see what AK does first? If not, just send the same contract over with a new date scrawled in at the top. We need help up front - sign the man.

I want my Xmas present under the tree now... can't wait! Also, who is the "they" - Kings or Hayes? If it's Kings they may want to have very carefully drawn contract and thus the lawyers are dotting every i and crossing every t. If it's Hayes then he's just entertaining some discussions and possible offers from other teams over next few days.

Im really happy for Chuck. Im also really embarrassed for our team. Then again im also really pleased that he's going to be on the Kings roster. I think "flabbergasted" is the word.

I assume time factor was a factor in deciding to void the contract. Then Hayes went to top Cleveland Clinic for more tests - all of this taking more time. For me bottom line is, we have a good chance to get him resigned, he can continuing playing in NBA, hopefully with good health. When GP said voiding his contract was, "one of the most heartbreaking moments of my professional or personal life," no question he meant it. Now what an emotional day it will be if we get Chuck Hayes back and Geoff can put that profound moment into words.

What the hell? What is going on with our FO?
Our medical staff can't correctly run a physical? Our diagnosis was completely off? There isn't a problem, thank god, but we came away thinking our only option was to void Chucks contract? Chuck and his agent in three days, were able to find a great, well respected clinic, with doctors who new what they were doing, to clear Chuck of any problems, but in five days, our organization could not do the same, were banking on a faulty diagnosis(actually completely wrong), and decided to void his contract?
You know, this could be great if Chuck resigns with us. But, this seems to be another example of our FO not running as efficiently, effectively as an NBA FO should. There are some on here who absolve all blame from our FO, no matter what. If you criticize them, then you mind as well just go root for another team, because a true Kings fans would never criticize the FO, yet there has been talk around the league for a few years about how dysfunctional our FO really is, and here we have another very odd example/situation, which leads me to believe something stinks in our organization.
I'm sure some of members here who think a true Kings fan would never criticize the FO disagree with me, as criticism of our FO is apparently just a lack of patience, yet the writing is on the wall, that there is something very odd going on within our FO.

How long of a window does a team have to void a contract? I'm guessing they were up against it, or more importantly, up against finding a guy to replace him. Did the FO panic? Did the Maloof's? Could they have waited for a second (or third, fourth) opinion from a respected clinic? If he resigns, doesn't really matter.

I'm sure they were up against a time frame for voiding the contract due to failing a physical. He had more tests done by the Kings who I bet used UCD doctors.

I am looking forward to seeing the offense run through Chuck and Cousins at the high post (provided they sign Chuck)... should be a good balancer for the Kings scoring-focused wings and guards like Salmons, Reke, Jimmer, and Thornton. A Chuck/Cousins high-post passing combo reminds me a lot of a Vlade/CWebb combo (just less cigarettes). I hope this means the return of "ball movement"... that could win some games and be fun to watch especially considering how athletic guys like Cousins and Hickson are on the give and go. Anyone else see that or feel that way?

Perhaps but in a compressed free agent period, the FO needed to make a decision rapidly. They had to decide with what they knew if they wanted to pursue Daly and they needed the cap money to do that. They didn't have time for 2nd and 3rd opinions as a weekend was coming up. Curiously, the info from Hayes' agent that he had no heart problems is now beginning to sound true.
There seemed to be a total breakdown within the Kings' organization about what was happening.

It's a bit too soon to tell, but if we offer Hayes around the same deal and he accepts it, all while saying that the Kings are the Front-Runners, it must mean that he doesn't feel as if the organization stinks.
I have zero medical experience, so I don't have any clue how something like this could or could not play out. But if the FO completely bungled things, then odds are that Hayes would have zero interest in coming back to the organization, especially for a multi-year deal.
So if we end up re-signing him, then I think things were probably handled on the up-and-up. If we don't end up signing him, and he ends up taking a lesser contract to play for a different team, then the FO will absolutely be open for questioning and criticism.
I also agree with Bajaden. I think there's a fairly good chance that the FO knew that Dalembert wasn't going to sign with them and figured that he and his agent would use any contract offers as leverage to help another team (such as Houston) up their bid. They might have found out from Hayes' camp that things were looking like he might be able to come back, so they pulled their offer to show some good faith to Hayes, so they could re-sign him. At least you can speculate something like this might have been happening due to the timing of events.

The ONLY way the Kings FO can make themselves not look like idiots/slimeballs/incompetent/etc is if they fully explain this issue, the timeline, the results, and what happened.
And since we all know they NEVER do that, the FO will look bad - REALLY bad about what went down, however it goes down.

Per the 2005 CBA "If the player does not pass the physical examination, the Team shall so notify the player no later than the sixth business day following the execution of the Contract."

This makes our organization look incompetent! Now there could very well be the reasons for this like maybe tight timeframes ti make the decision in or something like that but regardless of that it makes us look like amateurs. What I think might happen here is that we are entering into the bidding war as there are teams out there that are interested in Chuck! I would be surprised if we got him back for the same contract!
To be honest, it speaks volumes of Chuck as a person and his human qualities that he is considering us and that we have a "leg up" on the rest of the teams...that is exceptional leadership right there! Many others would give us a big FU and look elsewhere but Chuck is proving his class with the way he is handling all this!
