I literally see everyone besides Noel and Oladipo potentially falling to us.. If the staff loves McCollum or some other prospect I would trust their opinion/gut feeling over the falling player (although they might not love a particular prospect)

You could tell that Robinson was going to suck by ignoring the stats and watching the tourney games. If a guy like Len fell, I'd take him and be happy.

A couple of things. First, lets remember they got to the party late. So they've had less time to look at players, or perhaps set up workouts. It's virtually impossible to see every player out there that you'd like to see. Secondly, remember that Bratz and D'Alessandro have already scouted most of the players that they would be interested in. Most of what you learn about a player in a workout is in the interview process, and perhaps how they take coaching. You already know if they can shoot or not. Maybe there's one thing you might want a second opinion on, like bringing Kabongo in to pressure McCollum to see if his ballhandling is what you thought it was.

By the way, not sure why you believe Hardaway Jr. isn't a good defender. Personally, I think he was one of the best defenders on the Michigan team. He's no Victor Oladipo, but I thought he was fine.

By the way, if I had the first pick in this draft, I'd choose Victor Oladipo and go home.

I stand corrected on Hardaway's D; it's not something that is highlighted by others when they talk about him and I didn't see anything that jumped out at me on his D when I looked at him. The lack of Caldwell-Pope at the workout still doesn't make sense to me. His defense is talked about. He would have to be motivated to come in and visit if he were asked, as I think most mock drafts having going in that 9th-12th area, and the Kings sure had the time to invite in a ton of 2nd round types so it wouldn't be a big deal to invite him as well. So that still seems a mystery to me, especially in light of the Snell and Hardaway interest.

seems to be more along the lines of disclosing roughly 500 possible eventual moves to confuse the hell out of everybody.

The thing is, McCollum sells himself extremely well. He's very intelligent, knows the game, and interviews very well. But that does not mean he's going to be what people are expecting. I'm not really a fan of his game, and I think he lacks the athleticism of Lillard, and the passing ability/quickness of Curry. I think he could struggle in the NBA, and I'd prefer we go with someone else. Keep in mind I was a fan of Lillard last year when the majority were not. But I don't see the same future for McCollum.

It does seem like we're set on him, so I guess the only way we don't take him is if someone else drops. If McLemore drops, which is a slight possibility, I'd take him. Even if we re-sign Tyreke (which I hope is the case), I'd still take him for his talent, warts and all, and figure out the rest later. Obviously if Oladipo is there (he won't be), you take him and go home happy. Same for Porter/Noel. I just don't see them dropping.

This is actually one of the most interesting drafts in a long time as no one knows who the hell is going where, and who'll be making the picks. I think there's going to be some shocks. I have a feeling I'm going to be disappointed with our selections, however. Just have to wait and see.

I really don't believe our FO wants to give other teams this kind of information. I don't trust it at all. Too many ifs in this draft, so I'm pretty sure it's just speculation.
Can't wait for tonight, I'm very curious to see who we get.

you can buy NBA TV online for 6€ monthly, if you want to do that. dunno what the exact conditions are and how cancelling it afterwards works out. I'll probably steer clear, though.

Thanks but as you already mentioned NBA TV isnt worth 6€ just to watch the draft. I subscribed to it for some months before and didnt like it at all.

I know I said I wouldnt mind drafting McCollum in some of my earlier posts but.. after watching footage of this guy all night, I have too say...

His movements are very slow for a PG.. with his lack of athleticism I think hes going too have a tough time in the nba getting his shot off and playing D. I really like his attitude, hes a great kid, and his Bball IQ is excellent.. but i dunno... When I watch him play its just not clicking with me. I dont get that WOW factor with him at all.


I hope we decide too draft someone else tonight. I dont want too see the same mistake made three years in a row...

Have to agree on McCollum, I think he could struggle. If we like that type of player I think I'd prefer to take Erick Green or Wolters in the second round instead. We can't really afford to miss again in the first round and I have doubts as to whether McCollum has the athleticism to play PG, and he lacks the passing ability to make up for it. He's much too small to play off the ball in my opinion given his athleticism.

Adams is going to be a defender and rim protector, and Portland loves those guys. Why they went after Hibbert last year. And its the obvious thing you just have to have next to a big softie like Aldridge.

it's just so rare to see any team go out and acquire somewhat redundant projects. especially when they don't have any starting calibre type player slotted at the centre spot for next year. last team I can think of that did this is Seattle when they took Swift, Petro and Sene back to back to back.

McCollum is no Lillard, and the comparison is a bad one in my opinion. They went to smaller schools, that's the only real similarity. Lillard is a far, far better athlete and also a better distributor. His game was easily more translatable to the NBA. I'm very skeptical about McCollum.

the starting point for my comparison was that they both are incredible physical specimen, with very raw games that can rebound, block shots, run the floor and have apparently added some sort of mid range jumper to their repertoire. I haven't seen enough of Leonard to say how good or bad his defense is at this level, but just going off scouting reports at the time of last year's draft they sound eerily similar.

I agree with a lot of this. I saw him on film also for the first time and had the same sentiments. He has a slow mo old man's game that is difficult to evaluate. His gets off his jumper fairly slowly, he takes a while to get where he is going. Is he a Harden type of player? Hard to say. Certainly didn't see anything to believe he would be a defensive upgrade at guard. Definitely no wow factor. I saw the mock draft on the NBA channel last night and the panel was raving about him (but one of the guys also said that IT wasn't athletic). I'm pretty nervous if they make McCollum the pick.

if we took drummond instead of the stubby robinson, i wouldn't be upset at all. however we took a undersized player we didn't work out, didn't have a real game except hustle, grab board.

I wouldn't want to pick a 6'3 guard with the 7th pick if I didn't think he was capable of being a playmaker if called upon to do so. Who knows who McCollum will be playing with. He might be on the 2nd unit. Reke might be gone. the only way I will look the other way if CJ is drafted is if I believe the staff does believe he has innate point guard skills (pg in high school, aau etc.)

Oh, I think he's capable, I just don't think we need that to be a major part of his game right now.

And I like McCollum next to Evans. After that I stop liking McCollum so much. I would be incredibly pissed if we let Evans go and as a result leave this team with IT, MT, and CJ as our guard crew. Any praise or support I give to McCollum is entirely based on Evans being here.

I actually would not mind something like that. Trade the 7 for 2 other first rounders down the line where you're confident you can get the solid role players you'll need.

I think a draft is a lot easier if you are not taking chances on high risk/reward type players, more in the mid to late first round. The Spurs drafting history bears this out. Of course you still need a talented front office... but indications are we have that now. A move like this would make perfect sense to me. If we can somehow also get a first rounder out of Jimmer, that might give us even three chances to get who we feel confident can contribute.
