I don't see any bigs that I'd want at #7. If we end up drafting in that slot and we don't have someone fall in our laps I'd expect us to reach a bit on a wing. But we'd probably be better served moving back. Guys I like later in the draft are Franklin, Bullock, Caldwell-Pope and Crabbe.

I don't know any of them. I think we learned how much a big guy can help us when we got Aldrich. Aldrich is no world changer in most circumstances but for our team, he fits a position or role not yet covered. There must be someone who can clog the middle who is better than Aldrich. BTW, Daly is a FA isn't he?

Yes, and I'd take a free agent Dalembert over Len, Zeller, Olynyk etc even given that Sammy is nearing the end of his career. This draft is short on bigs that will bang and defend which is why I'm looking harder at guards and SFs.

Bullock is a slightly undersized but good shooting SF who has a high basketball IQ and good potential as a role player. He defends, protects the ball and seems to make the right play as long as he doesn't have to do too much.

Franklin has great size for a SG and has a lot of skills, especially rebounding for the position. He's not a great shooter and plays too wild at times (turnovers) but can be a very good passer and defender.

Crabbe is a very long SG who is a lights out shooter. I'm biased as a Cal alum but I think he's currently being overlooked given his size and the fact that shooting is a skill that translates to the NBA level. That said, he's a poor/disinterested defender.

Caldwell-Pope is a SG who has a nice outside shot and a decent midrange game. He plays pretty good defense but isn't a very good/willing passer.

Starting to believe Burke can be a real possibility if he makes it past Orlando at #2. Cleveland, Washingon, Bobcats, NOH, an PHX are all pretty well set at PG with youthful prospects and talent. In fact, PG is the only real position of talent that most of those teams currently have and would really be a waste to add Burke with so many other holes.

don't be alarmed by that. Dime Dropper mentioned it earlier already, assists are calculated differently under FIBA rules, even Rubio averaged less than 4apg in Euroleague competition and barely above 4 in the ACB. the TO% is worrying, agreed, but IIRC, a high turnover rate isn't that bad a sign in a young point guard.

it's nice to see all the love for Schröder in this thread and I'd obviously be thrilled if he landed in Sacramento (especially since he has been playing for the enemy lately). trading the pick for a veteran or trading down would be preferable to drafting him at #7 as of right now, but maybe individual workouts will change that anyway, nevermind that it's pretty much impossible with the current front office situation being what it is. we should have him at a workout anyway, no harm in that.

someone mentioned his shooting, you can look up the stats here, he has made a considerable jump from last year to this and there are voices questioning the sustainability of the 40% from downtown, as he doesn't have the best of mechanics. still, if he can sustain, or even improve upon his shooting that's a fairly solid shooter right there.

Well yea, that could happen with any team. On paper though, the Magic are the only team where Burke would have a realistic shot at starting. Kyrie and Wall are the franchise guys for their respective teams. Dragic, Vasquez, and Kemba all took huge strides this year and look to be above- average PG's in the league. Considering those teams all have decent dept at the PG slot as well (Marshall, Sessions, Rivers maybe), I don't see Burke being that high on any of those 5 teams draft boards.

He's got the makings of a skillset, but a lot of his intrigue comes from being pretty athletic for his size, and if that athleticism has a short shelf life, then it kind of defeats the purpose.

It seems Burke does have a slight chance to fall to us, it depends a lot on what the Magic want to do. If I were them, I think I might lean towards Burke, but McLemore might have more pure talent and upside though. Would the Pelicans (so ridiculous) want two PG's or to trade Vasquez? Yahoo has tons of freelance writers now. Basically, if it says it's from Yahoo I give it very little credence. After all, Adrian Woj. is from Yahoo and look how well he's done lately.

Essentially, a 19yr old who has played in the Olympics and leads the top Russian league in scoring. He fills a need at the three spot, has a good skill set, and has performed against good competition.

Actually I have to reserve judgement, haven't studied him yet.. I just see he's at the highest in the early 20's on several mock drafts.. So it suprised me that he was suggested as a 7th pick. I'll take a look at him

Cavs now have a big man to compliment Kyrie Irving.

2. Orlando – Ben McLemore, 2G

This one is tough. I say go for the best guy available and figure the rest out later. Aaron Afflalo can move to the 3 spot for the short term.

3. Washington – Otto Porter, SF

Great pick here. Local college star fills a need at the 3 spot.

4. Charlotte- Anthony Bennett, PF

Good pick. Charlotte has about as bad a situation at PF as you can get in the NBA. Tyrus Thomas is way overpaid and the only PF under contract for next situation.

5. Phoenix –Victor Oladipo, 2G

Raw but athletic, Oladipo can get minutes right away and make a smooth transition playing the slashing role as a compliment to good outside shooters in Dragic and Dudley.

6. New Orleans – Trey Burke, PG

Another tough choice. Small forward is the need but this may be too high for Shabazz Muhammad. While Greivis Vasquez had a surprising season, the team could still upgrade at this spot and Burke is the best PG in the draft.

7. Sacramento- Alex Len, C

If nothing else, the Kings get their backup center. If Cousins doesn’t mature, Len may find himself in the starting lineup sooner than you think or Cuz could move to PF and they play together.

8. Detroit – Shabazz Muhammad, SF

The Pistons need wing help and Shabazz gives them much needed scoring at the 3 spot.

9. Minnesota- Rudy Gobert, C

Huge reach here. Wolves bank on Gobert’s long term potential.

10. Portland – Cody Zeller, C/PF

Pretty good steal here for Portland. Zeller’s stock has risen due to a strong performance at the combine. He can start right away in the middle.

11. Philadelphia – C.J. McCollum, 1/2G

Versatile guard can fill in for Holiday at times or even start at the 2 spot.

12. Oklahoma City- Kelly Olynyk, C

Late bloomer can eventually start in the pivot for the Thunder. Team would be wise to let him come along slowly though.

13. Dallas- Dennis Schroder, PG

Dirk’s countryman gets the nod here. Dallas doesn’t have a PG under contract and with the team likely throwing most of their cap money at Dwight Howard, the Mavs can fill a perimeter need here.

14. Utah- Shane Larkin, PG

Mo Williams and Earl Watson have seen better days. Larkin’s stock has been rising lately so this looks to be a good pick for the late lottery.

15. Milwaukee- Tim Hardaway Jr., 2G

The Bucks aren’t sure who will be at the shooting guard position since Monta Ellis and J.J. Redick are both free agents. Hardaway provides insurance in case either or both leave.

16. Boston – Reggie Bullock, SF

Surprise pick this early but Bullock is the perfect Celtic. Hard worker is Doc’s type of guy.

17. Atlanta- Tony Mitchell, SF/PF

Call me crazy but I still think Atlanta has a shot at both CP and Dwight Howard. While unlikely, they should plan accordingly, meaning you take anything but a PG or C. They have no SF on the roster so this looks like a decent pick if Mitchell can bounce back to form from a year ago.

18. Atlanta-Deshaun Thomas, SF

See above

19. Cleveland- Michael Carter Williams, PG

Williams does the free fall as other PG prospects make late charges to the lottery.

20. Chicago-Steven Adams, C

Adams was impressive at the combine. Noah is the only C under contract for the Bulls and this year’s backup, Nazr Mohammed, may be hanging them up.

21. Utah- Kentavious Caldwell Pope, 2G

Jazz go with arguably the best player available.

22. Brooklyn- Gorqui Deng, C

The Nets are capped out and with only the mini mid level exception available, it’s no sure thing that Blatche will be back so they go with insurance here.

23. Indiana-Allen Crabbe, 2G

The payroll is getting high so Pacers probably won’t be spending money this offseason on free agents. Therefore, I see them taking a bench need as there is no backup 2G on the books.

24. New York-Lucas Noquera, C

Tyson Chandler showed signs of slowing down this year and Camby is flat out washed up.

25. L.A. Clippers-Mason Plumlee, C/PF

The Clips could go in a few directions here but settle on best big man available.

26. Minnesota-Sergey Karasev, SF

After going big with the first pick, look for the Wolves to get wing help here with Andrei Kirilenko’s countryman.

27. Denver-Jamaal Franklin, 2G

Andre Igoudola and Corey Brewer are both free agents. Ideally, they’d like to keep both but it may be too expensive so taking the best 2G available may make sense.

28. San Antonio-Jeff Withey, C

Good pick this late in the game. Spurs have deep connections with KU.

29. Oklahoma City-Giannis Adetokoubo, SF/PF

Rumor has it that this guy has a promise so it’s doubtful he would fall this far but after going big with the first pick, Thunder take a guy who can give KD a breather late in the first.

30. Phoenix-Dewayne Dedmond, C

Huge reach here. Suns go with long term hope after going with a perimeter guy in the lotto.

Carter-Williams would be a good fit if we end up going forward with Thornton and Jimmer as our sg's. He's a great complimentary player to an undersized, shoot first, two guard.

Zeller is intruiging as he has a relatively rare skill set as an offensively fluid 7 footer.

Dennis Schroeder is intruiging when I read his scouting report... have to find out more about him.

These are the three guys that jump out to me initially at pick 7... can't wait to see which route we go!!!

If Vivek likes the Golden State Warriors blue print, I can see the Kings going for the sweet scoring PG/SG in CJ McCollum, hopefully a poor man's Steph Curry.

McCollum is a combo guard and can fill in nicely next to Tyreke. He is big enough at 6'3 1/2" to keep the defenses honest. He can shoot, so that will open up the lane for Tyreke and Cuz. He is also active at defense. He and Tyreke can share the ball handling duties.

The Kings would have an uptempo style with players that can run the floor. If Patrick Patterson can play small forward or the Kings can pick up a Corey or Ronnie Brewer to be a defensive wing player, the kings can be an exciting up coming team, like the Warriors.

Trading down to get two mediocre players who don't play makes no sense in a game when the one pretty good player might actually play and be of use. People were thrilled when we got Honeycutt but we never used him. We never used Whiteside. We got lucky with IT and he is the exception. We are looking for quality and not quantity. So what if we load up with 2nd rounders or late 1st rounders. They are seldom of any use except for a very bad team.

Now if we trade up, you have my attention. The difference between the third pick and the 10th pick can be huge in your average year. I would rather have one third pick than a 16th and 20th. I hear this idea all the time and perhaps people are not on the same wave length as I am and believe me, I know I am right. Good college players frequently get no minutes in the NBA.

i would agree with you in most drafts, bt this draft is not a top heavy draft, every single player has questions in this draft. imo no one is really a for sure thing. so i look for a player that is really good at maybe one or two things that maybe can help us. as opposed to trying to get a superstar or a big time player at pick # 7 and fail.there are players that i like like potter or burke or noel, bt if one the players we really like are nt there at 7 i want to trade down... i would look at goldenstate as just an example look at festus ezeli or draymond green, two guy who wont be all stars, bt are solid players that fit roles next to their really good players....that is what i want instead of looking for another shoot first guy.. for example i like reggie bullock because he can spot up shoot and is a willing defender at the sf , not the most athletic guy and maybe be a little undersized, bt I KNOW HE CAN SPOT UP SHOOT, that is all i need, the knock on him is he cant dribble or create his own shots, well i dont want him to dribble or create, i literally want him to play hard defense and hit open three pointers, that is all...same reason i wanted harrison barnes last year... we dont need to put the most talented guys around tyreke and demarcus, we need to put the best guys around them. the guys that can fit next to them...

Karasev will be a first round pick. I saw him play in the Jordan Brand challenge, I believe, and I was very impressed by him. Other than that, I can't give him any more kudo's than I can give to Schroeder who I also say play. I wish I could say that I'm in love with either of them, but unless I can watch a player play 15 to 20 times, I can't really endorse him.
