You ever see The Commitments? Set in Dublin, Irish actors. Very entertaining movie, but you'd have to view it 100 times to get all the dialogue. I just barely learned what bollocks means.
One of my all time favorites. Two great soundtrack albums as well even though some purists say they are complete bastardizations of the original material. I was always amazed that Andrew Strong who played Deco (the singer) was only 17 when the movie was made.

If you have trouble understanding any other Irish "Slang" or words just ask me! I'll know, although I haven't seen that particular movie.

If you happen to be Irish or at least down with the Irish, you'd like that flick. Trust. It's not so much the slang, but the accents are extremely thick. This movie was nominated for best picture, so it was highly regarded even if it is a bit obscure. Siskel and Ebert raved about it back when it came out -- that's what prompted me to see it.

I had one of the soundtracks, good stuff. It was a cassette tape (ha). Yeah, he was an old 17 and he already had a Joe Cocker type of voice. Trip.

Two days ago, I rented out the original 1937 version of "Lost Horizon". I'm halfway done with it. I like it so far, even though the movie was very heavily edited throughout the years.

The only problem that I have is the version I'm seeing restored earlier deleted scenes that show up only as still photos even though the dialogue soundtrack is still intact. There are other scenes where the film looks "grainy", which probably indicates that it was deleted earlier before being restored.

Still, despite all the changes, I like what I see so far in this movie. I could see that this was director Frank Capra's more ambitious efforts. Quite a difference from "It Happened One Night", "Mr. Deeds Goes To Town", and "It's A Wonderful Life"!

:)

Taxi Driver, Escape From Alcatraz, Dillinger, Sixteen Candles, Wall Street, Five Easy Pieces & The Shining

Netflix --> DVDshrink --> CloneDVD --> never have to rent again

I LOVE Capra's LH... the later musical was just horid. It's a pitty they have not done a real good DVD with the original realse & the restored version. I definatly agree that the restored bits break the continuity... to bad they lost the film clips for those secotins beceause I can also see why they wanted those back in in the restoration process.

I'm Irish. Would you mind giving a quick run down on what the films about? Only a sentence or two so I'll have an idea. Might rent it out to have a look.

Last film I saw was Perfume:The story of a murderer.

Wasn't impressed at all, found it kinda boring.

It's an Allen Parker film about a group of young Irish musicians taht form a R&B band called the Comitments. If you like American R&B the movie rocks!

I went to the movie theater more times last week than I have practically all year!

On Tuesday I saw Harry Potter, Order of the Pheonix. I don't read the books and couldn't remember what previous movies I saw so I was a bit bored and almost fell asleep.

And I saw the Simpson's last night. It was just "ok" for me. I laughed but I expected and wanted to laugh more.

I loved it, personally.

But, Simpsons nut that I am, it would have to have been just AWFUL... like, Stan Lee's Harpies awful, for me not to love it.

Have also been watching the neutered versions of The Godfather on AMC all weekend. I really don't know why I haven't gotten these ones on DVD yet.

I watched "The Illusionist" last weekend. Loved it!:D

i thought this movie has been underrated in general. really liked it. i've been rewatching the first season of hbo's the wire on dvd. i forgot how great the first episodes of this stellar series were. very good stuff. also, saw shooter with mark wahlberg recently on dvd. liked the action, despite being completely over the top and unreal. good watch still.

Been on another late night catching up spree after doing some home theater improvements last week:
The Prestige - really liked this one even though I saw the ending coming extremely early on (much like the Illusionist which I also enjoyed, but I think this is the better "magician" movie even though they are otherwise completely different).
Pirates of the Carribean(the 2nd one) - liked it, great effects, I should have watched this long ago so I could have seen the finale in the theater.
Children of Men - cool movie, loved the final battle
Vacancy - meh... waste of most of the cast (Frank Whaley excepted), too many plot holes despite the claim that "this could really happen". The notion that this movie was comparable to Psycho in which the original audience was swerved is laughable when we all know the selling point of this story coming in.
Fracture- I am pretty sure I lost brain cells watching this. crappity-crap. Avoid this at all costs.

Heheheheh. Talk about coincidence.

I watched "Fracture" last night and absolutely loved it. Very good chemistry between the characters played by Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling. Personally, I tend to think any film with Hopkins in it is worth watching.

I thought Gosling and Hopkins gave it a better performance than the script deserved, it was just that the plot hinged entirely around questionable legal decisions topped off by a finale that just about all lawyers seem to agree has no basis in reality except maybe in Texas.

Well, it is a movie and reality doesn't make for good movies....only TV shows  .

It wasn't a documentary. And I'm not totally sure the finale is as far out as you say, especially when you consider the vast amount of legal procedurals done by Hollywood that hinge on similar types of twists. (And yes, I"m being intentionally vague since I know sometimes people use this thread to discover movies they may have missed.)

I understand its a work of fiction but that can only go so far with me. How I wish we had spoiler tags so I could fully explain :)

I just watched "BottleRocket" a couple of days ago, and liked it :)

and today I heard that Owen Wilson attempted suicide :(
This will sound harsh, but Kurt Cobain attempted suicide. Ernest Hemingway attempted suicide. Bud Dwyer attempted suicide. Owen Wilson attempted attention. Wrist wounds and pill swallowing = cry for help.
