I have serious doubts about Petro. I see a Francisco Elson type player in him. MAYBE in a couple years, he will be a decent backup center. But once again, I can't be on board with any draft pick when one of the drawbacks is a lack of passion or heart. I see bust written all over this guy.Johan Petro
I'm not going to pretend I know anything about this kid. It WILL be interesting to see what kind of player he is, just to see if the Spurs pulled another rabbit out of their collective hats.Ian Mahinmi
This is one of the only guys the Kings might regret passing on, but I'm not sure. Of course, he IS undersized and has had some injury problems so we'll see. I like him as a player, but I don't know about whether I like him as a Kings player.Wayne Simien
May or may not be a player in the NBA, but regardless, I don't think he was the type of player the Kings need. I see Mark Madsen with better offense.David Lee
Here's a guy that really intrigued me. I would have gambled on him at 23, but then it's not my job on the line. It sounds like he could be a center on the level of Krstic, although a different type of player. If so, that's a much better pick than another shooting guard, even if the eventual payoff is a couple years away.Mile Ilic
JB_kings said:It wasn't a bad pick and it was a brilliant pick either. It's no more of an impact to the Kings than the drafting of Martin last year. I think in the big scheme of things, he's going to be struggling to get minutes on the floor. Just like Martin did last year.

Ronny Turiaf is another guy to keep an eye on. I think he has limited potential, but he might be able to provide some rebounding, toughness and possibly some inside scoring.
Personally, I am not upset with the pick. What I WANTED to see though, was Petrie trade up when a number of guys that could have helped started slipping. It may have cost the Kings a guy like Bobby Jackson, but at least moving up to grab a kid like Gerald Green would have given me some cause for excitment.
What about if PG's intention was to pick SG, which he got and get a big man by a trade only.Venom said:There has been a lot of crying about how Garcia was a bad pick, we needed post defense, yada, yada, yada. And yet nobody has stated what available big man they wanted for the Kings. Somebody please enlighten me.

Ronny Turiaf was available, but I guess the Kings would rather stay soft and not worry about getting tough in the paint.Venom said:There has been a lot of crying about how Garcia was a bad pick, we needed post defense, yada, yada, yada. Garcia may develop into a good player, but he does not address this team's deficiencies; if Petrie didn't think that he could get a player that would with the 23rd pick, shouldn't he have considered negotiating for a higher one?
Biased much?Neil66UofL said:BTW Garcia is 10 times better than Martin....for that matter any other Sg on the kings roster, if Mobley leaves.
If Garcia were "10 times" better than Martin, he wouldn't have been available with the twenty-third pick.Neil66UofL said:BTW Garcia is 10 times better than Martin....for that matter any other Sg on the kings roster, if Mobley leaves.
VF21 said:UL fans have every right to be excited and happy about their guy. I grant them that. Instead of making judgments now about how good Garcia will be as a King, how much better he is than anyone currently on our roster (Kevin was a 20s pick last year, remember) or things like that, I'm gonna wait and see what happens. Hopefully we'll all be happy with the outcome.
Neil66UofL said:Well the fact is, I watched Garcia scrimmage against CURRENT NBA players and throughtout the season. I also watched Martin in college and for the Kings, and Garcia is better, plain and simple. Martin is a good backup and I'm glad he is on the team. To imply that Garcia sucks b/c he was there at number 23 is ignorant. Every analyst including Stephen A. Smith agreed Garcia is a steal and shouldn't have slipped. He slipped due to Felton and Villinueva going so high, it screwed the draft up.

Venom said:To get one of the top big men we would have had to move up to at least #13 in order to get May, who I like alot, but has big question marks. What would you have been willing to give up to move that high, a ten spot jump? Keep in mind that everyone knows that a 2006 first rounder is worthless, especially from a team like the Kings who "should" be in the playoffs. The rest of our squad is overpriced, old and injured(B-Jax), or part of the "core". I'm all for trading Peja, but not for freaking Sean May. I imagine Petrie was working the phones, I just don't think he had the ammo to move up. . .not this year.
Bricklayer said:To the best of my knowledge he's never moved up, EVER. Not once. Nor moved down either. Geoff is just not a draft guru. Not where he does his work, and frankly I'm not sure how much focus/effort he puts in it. Get somebody he likes, go home. I am not at all confident it even occured to him to move up. He prefers to deal in proven commodities, and has been pretty casual in tossing around the picks we do have in even relatively minor trades. You're not putting a real high premium on them when you are throwing them into deals for Mateen Clevaes or even to get RID of a contributing player like Keon Clark. All in all, wouldn't surprise me if Geoff was just glad the draft was over so he could concentrate on what he considers the real work.
Venom said:This isn't the NFL draft. Moving down to stockpile picks is pointless, and moving up takes significant trade fodder, especially the year before the 2006 Draft, which has already been anointed as the worst ever. As methodical as Petrie is, I really doubt he sits around on his *** until the Kings pick comes up. Brick, you have been uncharacteristically irrational all week in regards to this draft, and entirely evasive. You still have not mentioned a player you would have preferred at #23 or a guy you would have traded up for. I think you may have alluded to Granger and Green at one point, but nobody in the mid-high teens was budging once they saw the players slipping. In this draft you had to move all the way up to the lottery if you were targeting a specific player.

Warhawk said:I agree though - some have been bashing the pick with nothing as far as who they would have chosen instead - at least extend your personal choice if that is the way you feel. I, for one, at this point in time, am happy with the pick.
