Anyways, i know he is short but that should affect him to much. look at Chris paul, he is 6 foot withshoes. Paul is prolly as tall as augustin without shoes
Paul is an inch and a quarter taller than Augustin w/o shoes.

At what point and what game was Arthur great?
that 22/10 game (final game). He looked friggin amazing.. If he played like that all year I would take him in a heart beat.

My main problem with Augustin is that I've seen him play and I'm unimpressed. I mostly watched him play his Freshman year with Durant and I thought his decision making and control of the game were poor. I watched a lot of Lawson and Conley that year too, and in my mind he was a distant 3rd in the Frosh PG ratings. If he were 6 2" and being looked at in the 10-12 range I'd still think he's overrated. I'd take Chalmers over him in a heart beat.
That said, that's probly over the course of 6-7 games. His stats are pretty good.
I think he's actually the guy we're close to who I like the least, but I won't freak out if we draft him.
I think that Augustin is a risk. Its a matter of how much of a risk at this pt, and how good eventually, he will be. I doubt that he will ever be a star or an impact player. I think, best case, he will be a starting pt guard, but never great. Worst case, he will be a nice player off the bench as a backup pt guard. On the other hand, there are some bigs that have a much higher ceiling. But they also have a much higher risk.
Most of the depth is at the center and PF position. Your chances of getting a very good player is at those positions. So why take a gamble on a pt guard. Frankly, I think the Kings are throwing up a smoke screen about Augustin.
Based on history, it isn't.
Its not, but this is a VERY unusual draft in that regard at least -- there look to be 6-8 bigs left on the table after #10 that are very intriguing. Not Greg Oden intriguing obviously. But there could be one or more real good players to come out of that group. And really, we should think about that. If we remain bound and determined to scuttle ourselves at every opportunity and refuse to get a high draft pick, this soucl be the best chance we have to nab an impact big picking from down in the late lottery crap positions. Much bust potential of course, but I have a hard time believing that they are ALL going to be busts.
Brevin Knight was blindingly quick, one of the quickest guys who has played recently... We'll see with Augustin because he's a better passer than Jameer Nelson and a better shooter than Knight and Ford, but I think there are some legitimate concerns.
Knight might also be the best defender in the NBA per pound, which I never expect to hear about Augustin.
I agree that there are legitimate concerns, with Augustin, and with everyone else who is likely to be left by #12. I'm not wild about the idea of Augustin, but let's face it, Udrih has us by the short & curlies, and there's a reasonable chance that some team's going to offer him more than he's worth. (Notoriously cautious) Geoff may feel that he has to draft a PG just to avoid an extended repeat of the beginning of last year. It's all too clear that the current roster and coaching staff, without a real PG, are good for nothing aside from a #4-#7 pick.
Is there something wrong with that? Have we got some phobia against having a shot at the better players? Genuine question, you'd really rather be picking late lottery than at the top? Or have I misunderstood you?
You have sort of misunderstood me. Since Geoff, not I, gets to make the pick, I'm trying to guess what Geoff will do. That's not to say that I necessarily agree with it. More often than not, I don't.
Oh, I see. Well, I do like Augustin and think he'd be a very good pick. But I think it's Geoffs responsibilty to make sure we have a far better pick next year. Anything less and he's not doing his job, simple as. It's not awfully hard to suck. He's just made sure we only half sucked, which sucks even more because we don't get a good pick. He can only be given a free pass so many times before people say "C'mon, we've given you years to steer us in the right direction, and all you've done it increase the speed we're going in the wrong direction".
At least that's how I feel.
I think it's Geoff's responsibility to actually contribute to the future of the team, not to ensure a better draft pick because there is NO WAY to make that kind of situation come true.
Augustin would be a steal at #12. He is not undersized when you take into account his standing reach and his arm length. He's essentially the same size as Chris Paul and Jordan Farmar. In fact, if you compare the arm length, Augustin has the longest arms of the three.
Like the Bulls' coaching staff once said, they drafted Elton Brand knowing his reach and length is equal to a 6'10 person. The reason why Brand is 6'8 is because he has a short neck.
In fact, I think arm length, the height from shoulders to the ground, and standing reach are much more telling than the height from top of the head to the floor.
But at any rate, I doubt Augustin will last to #12. He's too good.
dime dropper - Sorry, but you and I are diametrically opposed on this issue. You're speaking one point of view; mine is the polar opposite. And interestingly enough, neither of our opinions really matter. The Maloofs have a say, and their say is not going to be to bring the team further down before rebuilding, at least not intentionally. It's not going to happen. And that's not speculation. That's based on a lot of reliable information.
...
Upon re-reading, are you talking about attempting to trade up this year? If so, I truly believe there have been discussions but that doesn't mean we'll be successful. Once again, we don't have a lot of legitimate bargain chips
His standing reach and arm length don't mean jack when he has a SG guard him and towers over him. He won't be able to shoot.
my new nightmare scenario is that Bayless slips to us and we pass on him for Augustin.
