Donte is far more likely TO be on the team next year, becasue he does several things, First, he defends. And net minus = B.S. We, as a team, get significantly better with him on the floor defensively. That's the net that matters. There is not a Battier, Bowen or Sefalosha who has gone through the years with a "net plus" in productivity over their opponents, and yet they are critical components of winning teams. All that matters is what they do to the OTHER guy's numbers.
And of course furthermore Dotne has the following advantages: he's cheap. He's a good chemistry guy. And he mostly accepts his role. And in his positon that is not a negative, its a huge positive. The absolute last thing you want out of a deep bench player is a guy with delusions of grandeur. It was part of what doomed Omri. Its what dooms Chris Douglas Roberts. Its what doomed even a scrub like Tony Massenberg. You can have Donte on a deep roster, he won't cost you much, he can play a role if called upon, and he will be a major cheerleader on the bench. For a deep bench player that's actually almost perfect. Now long term? No. At some point you go looking for something better. Short term I doubt there is much impetus at all that "oh, we have to upgrade our 11th man/3rd SF". Only way it likely even becomes an issue is if we indeed go out and try to sign a Kirilenko type major SF, or I suppose if somebody actively pursues him or more likely wants him as a throw in in a trade. We've already hasd two of those this summer though, and now the league has been shut down, so there may be limited time/stomach for many more.
And I doubt Honeycutt gets much run at all. He was already seen as a guy not necessarily ready this season physically, we're of course trying to take a step forward here and so kids are going to be less in favor. And now we have the lockout preventing him from being able to show us what he's got in summer league, and if it drags on, possibly wiping out his chance to show us anything in training camp either (last lockoout they rushed guys back mid-January and has like a 10 day sprint of a training camp). I think he was picked too high in the second round and came with sufficient rep that he makes the roster, but unless he dazzles in practice he's not going to have much of a chance to show anything, or possibly even learn the plays. That has d-league written all over it.
