Hey, the stats I pull up say he's a worse rebounder than Mikki Moore per 48 but whatever float your boat. If you want another Mikki Moore that can block a shot or two then by all means become a Udoh hugger.
Every single one of our front court player is a better rebounder than Udoh. Cousins almost doubles his rate. Hayes having a terrible year is better than Udoh too, and Thompson is much much better.
OK so I probably exaggerated a bit saying he was a "atrocious" defensive rebounder but he is not average unless you call one less rebound than Mikki Moore (when he played with us) decent. So Average? no... Below average? Yes... By quite a bit, because Moore, when with us, was not a good rebounder. Udoh is worse than Moore by more than a rebound a game per 48.
I will say this again, The Kings do NOT need this guy. He's not good enough to get minutes on this team.
Fist off, let me clear, I never said that Udoh was a great rebounder. My desire for him lies in his ability to play defense, something Moore was never accused of. But since you brought up Moore, lets take a look at the difference between the two. First let me remind you and everyone else, that when Moore arrived in sacramento, he was starting his 10th season in the NBA. Udoh just finished his 2nd. So can we assume that Udoh possibly has some room to grow yet, considering he didn't even start playing basketball until he was a junior in highschool. Basicly didn't play at Mich for two years, took a year off due to transfering to Baylor, and then had a breakout season his year at Baylor. I don't just make blanket statements about players. I look at all the circumstances involved, even who his coach was, and the style of play used at his college. Don't think it matters, then ask Derrick Favors about that.
And without going into details, you more than anyone should know that. But lets look at Udoh and Moore's 36 per numbers, which I think are more representive of reality.
Moore in his year with the Kings per 36 minutes averaged 7.5 total rebounds, 5.0 defensive, and 2.4 offensive. He averaged 10.5 PPG, and 0.7 Blocks per game.
Udoh in his 2nd year per 36 minutes averaged 7.1 total rebounds, 4.3 defensive, and 2.8 offensive. He averaged 9.5 PPG, and 2.8 Blocks per game.
Now if your paying attention to the difference in blocked shots, then Moore and Udoh aren't even in the same league. And when you consider that Moore had 9 yr's of NBA experience when he arrived, compared to Udoh just completing his second year, I'd give the edge to Udoh overall since the rest of their numbers are quite similar.
So having said that, if Moore with his 36 per numbers could actually start for us, then I'm sure Udoh could easily sit on the end of the bench for us, in case we need a defensive stop or someone is in foul trouble.
