Tropical Island Video Vault Draft - ROUND 20 - FINAL ROUND

#61
I think that's a good call.

As I said before, I was originally ambivalent anyway and recognized it as a tad overly restrictive and cumbersome. And if it means losing people and those who did participate didn't have as much fun, forget it.

The Brick Doctrine Rule of 5 it is.

Now let's get that last drafter signed up and get this thing going.

Why do you still have your trophy, when we all lost ours? lol

Hey Jespher, I think that is a great compromise. I like it. Good job.
Thanks Warhawk, I think this idea will work well for all involved.

So we still have room on the island for 1 more participant and then I was hoping to begin the draft tomorrow by noon. Spike has confirmed interest, is anyone else interested in participating? Bricklayer will you be joining us?

The Black Stallion was a dark horse. Who doesn't love ponies?

But really, why use a #1 pick on a dark horse?

My intention is/was not to do this one, as I will have some coming up later in the summer and my duties mean that I at least have an excuse to check the board all offseason anyway. So was going to let somebody else have the spot as a bridge. But if you're one shy you can pencil my name into that last spot so the draft go can off on time if no other eager beavers show up.

Here is a link to the randomizer. I'm looking for an impartial observer to determine draft order (I sent PMs to LoungeLizard and bozzwell to see if they can do this)...Once that is complete we may begin the draft tonight, or wait until tomorrow at noon to give pick #1 some time. What say the masses?

I haven't heard back from Lounge Lizard or Bozzwell so I sent a PM to Glenn as well to see if he would set the draft order. Hopefully we will get this resolved and get underway soon.

So you want some movies huh? So I'm stuck on an Island without any entertainment?

What better ways than to spend my happy tropical days in a world of eviscerated heads, gore, and blood?

Not to mention a satirical social commentary that seems in the not too distant future, I hope.

By the way, did I mention I could watch this Movie over and over and over... and over...

Dawn of the Dead (1978)

I actually don't like having the second pick, most of the top movies will be gone before my next pick comes around. Anyway, I'm tempted to take the same movie I took in the last draft, but I want to change things up a bit. This is a classic, with a whole bunch of great one-liners, maybe my favourite being "English, mother****er, do you speak it!" Know what it is yet?

Pulp Fiction (1994)

And my second favorite. I'd be wildly upset with you if this one had been available to me from the onset. Still can't believe I got it in the second round last time. Solid pick.

Tarantino's dialogue is always inspired and gleefully quotable ... if the profanity doesn't make you blush. What other soundtrack album (albeit unofficial) would have seven snippets of the film's dialogue in lieu of several songs from it?

That of course in no slight on the score itself: a brilliantly eclectic mix of classic rock, pop, soul and surf music (which Tarantino called "rock 'n' roll Spaghetti Western music" ... nice) particularly the use of Dick Dale's iconic Misirlou during the opening credits. Listening to the soundtrack alone tells you the movie's going to be a hip, savvy and kinetic roller coaster ride.

And now I've said a little too much about a movie I didn't pick :)

I'm a sucker for good storytelling and a twist, and this movie was done so well that people are still debating it feverishly a year later. If you haven't seen it, it's showing on HBO this month, or you can hit your local video kiosk. Bottom line is that the plot was so good and the acting so spot on, it was immediately one of my favorites.

With the 3rd pick in the 2011 TDOS Tropical Island Video Vault Draft, Superman's Super Movie Lineup selects:
Inception (2010), directed by Christopher Nolan

"There's something you should know about me... about inception. An idea is like a virus, resilient, highly contagious. The smallest seed of an idea can grow. It can grow to define or destroy you."
