Tropical Island Video Vault Draft - ROUND 20 - FINAL ROUND

Only because I already tipped my hand a bit, I'm going with the other Tarantino and Rodriguez collaboration I have on my list.
From Dusk till Dawn (1996)
Going into this movie blind back when it was released I really wasn't aware what I was in for, so of course I wasn't shocked that this starts off with a couple of fugitives holding up a liquor store. Typical good stuff in the vein of their previous work. Then after 40 or so minutes, WTF this is a vampire movie. At the time it was a great twist for those who didn't spoil themselves. And it has an amazing cast for this type of flick - George Clooney and QT as the brothers on the lam. Ok, QT can't really act but he does what he needs to do by playing the psycho brother. They kidnap a preacher played by Harvey Keitel with his daughter played by Juliette Lewis and his adopted son. Then you've got Salma Hayek doing an exotic dance, Danny Trejo, Tom Savini and Fred Williamson. Great southern flavored soundtrack with the Blasters' Dark Night featured. When this came out it was an announcement that good old fashioned horror flicks I grew up on were making a comeback.

I don't know why but when I think about this movie I get really excited about the idea of having it on my island. Something about the random humor is my cup of tea. Now I have a couple of good comedies so I can dive into more drama/action stuffs for awhile.

I don't know why but when I think about this movie I get really excited about the idea of having it on my island. Something about the random humor is my cup of tea. Now I have a couple of good comedies so I can dive into more drama/action stuffs for awhile.

It's been years since I've seen any of them, so maybe I was just too young to get it, but I never liked the Naked Gun films.
The first was classic, the others not so much. But honestly I'll watch anything with Leslie Nielsen in comedy mode if I catch it flipping channels.

Oh, I could sentence you to movie watching hell by suggesting a few of his later attempts that would change your mind, but I don't want to taint the draft. In fact, feel free to take them.
Good lord no Brick, I don't want them. Not where I'm going with my island. But I've seen a fair amount of the stuff made after say the second NG movie and while it is all awful, on a Sunday afternoon outside football season... I still may just watch.

Reservoir Dogs is probably my favorite Tarantino film overall. I only skipped it because it might be a little too art house for my drive in. knowwhatI'msayin? I'm sure you do, Mr. Blake.
For my third-round choice I'm going to go with The Big Lebowski (1998).
This movie has everything - a main character named simply The Dude, bowling, a ringer of whites, nihilists ("Say what you like about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos"), a segment from Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, and a rug that really ties it all together.
The Big Lebowski has a plot complicated enough to stand up to (require, really) multiple viewings, and pretty much every time I watch this movie I catch something subtle I hadn't noticed before. Perfect for my island.

Solid. I don't watch it that much anymore, but it certainly takes a few viewings to truly sink in and by the 3rd of 4th you can properly devour it.
