What can be said about Shinobi? It is one of my all-time favorite Arcade games and I can still smell Round Table Pizza whenever I play it at home on MAME. This is, hands down, my favorite platform game... simple weapons system and Ninja Magic, just enough jumping and just enough fighting to make this game perfect... I will say it, this game is perfect. Not too easy, not too hard... the bonus stage is difficult and fun. Just an all around balanced platformer that I MUST have on my island. Plus, Joe Musashi is one cool ninja walking around with his arms crossed just waiting to strike with a throwing star or gun, a sword, and Ninja Magic.
 
Pick #9, time for a X-Men game. This one was really fun to play as it showed the Mutants in all of their action packed glory. Kinda different type of fighting game as you must beat each member of the pair you're fighting to advance. Since I missed out on the original Street Fighter II, I'll settle for this game. This will satiate my cartoon fight game needs.

So as not to seem like a trend-follower, I've had this pick slated for this spot since the draft began and had been relatively comfortable it would be here for me unopposed.

That is until you all became Mega Maniacs, forcing me to sweat a little

MM 2 and MM X were both very solid choices.

But this one still reigns as my personal favorite.

Mega Man III - 1990 - NES

Personally, I think the first of the series introduced us to a great gameplay idea, Mega Man 2 redefined and expanded on it ... and Mega Man 3 simply perfected it.

Had the standard 8 robot masters including some of the coolest ones of the series (Shadow Man, Gemini Man, Magnet Man) and a few not so cool (Top Man ... Really?).

And sandwiched between those levels and the usual Dr. Wily Castle stages, the Blue Bomber had to face off against all 8 robot masters from Mega Man 2 again. It's almost like having 2 games in 1.

Plus, introduced Rush, Protoman and the now standard Mega Slide to the series.

And to top it all off, had one of the most memorable intro songs of the NES.

Basically the same as After Burner I, but with 3 more levels and the ever important throttle. If you are old enough to remember it, this game was insanely fun in your local arcade.

As I said...This is my personal favorite arcade game of all time...Kicking butt with the whole Simpsons family was always great! Lisa was my personal fave...Her jumprope kicked booty.

This was my next pick, my very favorite video game ever, and the only arcade game that I fed enough quarters to actually beat. Three times.

Well, that stung. Anyway, though there are a number of games on my list that are probably in bigger danger of being grabbed by others, I'm going to switch gears here and secure my second favorite game of all time. Banking on obscurity already lost me one game, and I'm not about to let it happen again. So, without further ado, my next pick:

Earthworm Jim 2 -- Sega Genesis (1995) -- This game is seriously cracked, and I love it. Don't believe me? Take a look at Wiki's gameplay description. It's not a particularly long game (you can get through it in a day), nor is it particularly difficult, but it's hilarious and one of the few games from this time that I still find every bit as fun as I ever did. In fact, I can think of very little video game news that would make me quite as happy as if I woke up tomorrow morning to find that Shiny Entertainment (the non-Shiny Jim games sucked) was putting together a new version for the PS3.
 
My first selection is:

Sim City 3000 (1999 - PC)

What can I say, I like building cities sometimes. And this game has so many variables and ways to play, no problem keeping me occupied for long stretches on my island.

Elevator Action (1983 - arcade)

One of the few arcade games I really loved, as how can you not go wrong shooting lights out and having them drop on the bad guy's head? :D

Once again, I'm ignoring some low hanging fruit to go for beloved obscurity, and it will probably come back to bite me in the hiney, but my next pick is another that I'd just hate to miss out on:

Shadow of the Colossus -- PS2 (2005) -- Loved by critics (but almost completely ignored by buyers), this game is usually looked at as not only one of the best games for the PS2, but an example of how good and how innovative original games can be when developers think outside of the box. It is usually categorized as an action game, but really functions more as a puzzle game. There are no little baddies to kill, no real villain or evil plot, very little platforming -- just you, a dead girl, your horse, an expansive, empty landscape, and 16 the colossi. Your job is to find them and defeat them (picture a game of nothing but boss battles), but you've got to figure out how first. That's where the puzzle element comes in. Again, unlike an action game, randomly flinging arrows and slashing with your sword won't do a damn thing to their health bar. Instead, the game gives you time to really think things through (there are only a couple of the battles that don't give you ample opportunity to back away and observe unharmed) so that you can figure out how to distract the colossus, how to climb them, and where the weak spots are. Also, though the unique gameplay alone would probably be enough to get this one on my island, this is easily one of the most beautiful games I've ever played. It's the only game I can recall playing that actually inspired several audible "wow"s.
 
I just recently saw Reign Over Me, and I'm pretty sure that was the game that they had the crazy guy (Sandler) locked up in his apartment playing every single night.

The Resident Evil that started it all...Spawning video game after video game, three movies, action figures and etc. This is the game that got me into the survival-horror scene, and it is a genre I am in love with! Action, puzzles, gore, guns...What more can you ask for?

And some of the most comically bad voice action of all time...Take a listen!

Just came on to ask if anyone has seen that movie. Impressive performance from Sandler, but overall a meh movie.

Wow, the last batch of picks have been epic.

Elevator Action and The Simpsons were two of maybe a half dozen arcade games that made my list. Along with Rampage and a few yet to be named, I could play those forever.

But the big shocker: EWJ 2 from Gadget. I thought I was alone in my battles against Psy-Crow and Queen Bloated, Pulstating, Festering, Sweaty, Pus-filled, Malformed Slug-for-a-Butt.

i LOVED this game. Had this on my list for the later rounds, didn't think it'd go so early.
 
Phew... all the Earthworm Jim love makes me feel justified in taking it so early. I'd have had a fit if I missed out on that one.

Because you didn't have a legitment platformer on your roster (unless you count Ratchet and Clank, which is Reeeeealy stretching it) EWJ is extremely justified.

In fact, I was less than impressed with the roster until you took over, but since then all your picks have been quirky and high on the fun factor.

And considering you say you were going to take Mario Galaxy and The Simpsons early, I'm really curious what your roster would look like if the first five picks had been yours.

A racing game with a twist. Now the object is to win, but also, at times, crash as much as you can and do as much damage as you can. Whats not to love?

Disclaimer - DO NOT play this game for hours and then immediately go drive your car. Bad things can happen.
 
I honestly don't have room for this ... but have been absolutely puzzled why it continued to drop even after the first one was selected in round three.

Now that I've secured many of my must haves, I'm snagging it and not looking back.

Tecmo Super Bowl - 1991 - NES

I can't argue with the original being selected so high as it was the first legitment attempt to bring the NFL to a game system.

But this is far superior, adding an actual regular season and playoffs with the names, rosters and logos of all 28 teams (from the time) after securing the full NFLPA license that was missing in the first one.

Each playbook has eight plays instead of the previous four, and there are also fumbles and injuries included as you guide your team to a division crown and the Lombardi trophy.

No trades or roster moves, but the overall simplicity of it is enough to keep me coming back and set the standard for sports games to follow.

Oh and there is still the genius of the Football Adonis
