Crazy Taxi (2000) - Dreamcast

Tons of crazy fun with this game! The steering wheel was a must for ultimate chicanery.
I was so close to taking this with my last pick, great game

Space Invaders - 1978 - Arcade

I was about 6 years old, and this game had been out for a few years. I saw this game at a pizza place we used to eat at all the time, and would be stuck to this game for pretty much the whole meal.. I loved it..

Time to solidify the fighting genre on my list.

Mortal Kombat: Deception (2004) - Playstation 2

Review

First off, I'm a MK fan first, and a Street Fighter fan second. This is my favorite MK game. It has great characters (most of my faves from the earlier ones), but most importantly (since I'm stranded on an island), it has other game modes in case I ever get sick of fighting. There is a Konquest mode (RPG), Puzzle Kombat (puzzle), and even Chess. Probably the best Mortal Kombat game

Need for Speed Underground - 2003 PS2

Never have been a big fan of racing games, however this one had me hooked untill i beat it, it's a shame they stopped the street racing concept with the newest version

I select:

Golden Tee Golf Fore! Complete (2005) for the arcade.

It is very rarely that a video game captivates pop culture in the modern era... Golden Tee Golf, however, has done just that. Never played golden tee golf? You golf using the trackball to control your swing... this sports game has become a sport all by itself. Tournaments for cash have been held, professional players have emerged; when I reviewed the list, I am stunned this was not picked already by me and happy no one else thought of it first. This game SHOULD have gone in the first two rounds...

Still not sure about this pick? Read the wiki and weep:

There is just something vaguely pathetic that golf, already a "sport" awash in beer guts and jiggling behinds, should now be supplanted by an even more sedentary replacement activity. ;)

Pick #11. Time to make some music. I pondered whether I should take guitar hero here, but I want to really make some music, not just play something that someone else already plays. So I'm going for a dark horse pick here, which I hope is legal. It's really a software application, but it is so fun and versatile, that it should count as a game.

Pick #11: Apple's GarageBand w/ MIDI Keyboard (Mac/PC) 2004
Includes Jam Packs for: Remix Tools, Rhythm Section, Symphony Orchestra, World Music, and Vocals

Since it comes with equipment required to play the game, I would also need a guitar, piano, and drums. Or I could just use the digital instruments.

GarageBand can play virtual software instruments for creating songs or playing music live using 50 sampled or synthesized instruments which can be played using a MIDI keyboard connected to the computer, or using an on-screen virtual keyboard. Additional instruments are available in the five GarageBand Jam Packs, separate products offered by Apple Inc.; each expansion pack costs approximately $100 USD and adds dozens of virtual instruments.

He's been lagging on his picks in a few drafts lately. School started again right?

haha, funny guy :D. Yes, college started. Anyway,

I am aghast as to why no games from this series have been selected, especially this one. Which is the best of them all.

Harvest Moon 64 (1999) - Nintendo 64

This game is just great in so many ways. You get to basically just live a life in a game. A down to earth, farm life with plenty of realistic touches here and there. I remember loving playing this game as a kid and knowing every day you'd wake up to more eggs to get from your chickens, or some new crop to plant due to a season change, or new equipment from the next town over shipped to the nearby town shop.

And who can forget the dating features? It was awesome to gradually woo your favorite girl of the assortment in town to eventually be your wife. And challenging as well. Really the first game that ever attempted this and they succeeded.

Sorry for the hold up. Move along.

Not to be a pain in the butt, but I don't think GarageBand qualifies as a video game. It's a pretty decent musical tool.

Anyone else have thoughts? It is so creative of a program, that I would definately have more fun with that than any game I've picked so far. Plus, it's for PC, just like most of my other games. What's the difference between creative software like this and Mario Paint?

Well, I don't have a horse in this race, but the first sentence in the wiki goes "GarageBand is a software application that allows users to create music or podcasts," and the first sentence on Apple's website goes "Welcome to your personal recording studio." That doesn't sound like a "game" to me...

As far as asking what the difference is between this and Mario Paint, TTBOMK, neither Mario Paint nor MPC allow you to export anything that you create, or save it in any format... Besides which, who picked Mario Paint?

Isn't that the natural progression of Video Games? Mario Paint didn't allow saving/exporting, now GarageBand allows saving/exporting/editing. It is more interfaced with the internet now, as that has developed to be a major force since the 90s when Mario Paint came out...Plus one is for a platform, and one is for a PC. PCs allow for more integration of software where as platform games must be stand alone. Since PC games are legal, I contend that GarageBand is a legal pick.

edit: SacKings posed it for my draft board already, so it looks like I'm good.

False argument.

It is a software application used to create and edit music. By your logic, Microsoft Office is an acceptable video game pick. Both are editors, both create a product.

There is no competition for a "high score" or various levels you must rise in order to reach at a conclusion. Where is the game play? Just because it's on a PC, doesn't make it a game.

The school year is starting, so I'm feeling a little snarky. I will protest this pick, but if the commish allows it, the commish allows it.

Outsider chiming in. This was my initial reaction as well, though Photo Shop was the application that crept up in my mind.

There are some programs that I'd consider to be in the middle, but GarageBand isn't one of 'em.

I'm of the opinion that GarageBand isn't technically a game.

However, since that, by default, means that it also isn't one of my games, I kinda don't care.

f you have ever played Mario Paint you realize that there is a purpose and a goal to be had while playing it. ie: Matching notes to existing Nintendo music then watching Mario jump through the song. It is not a tool like Garageband. It's a game for children that is supposed to encourage creativity and expression.

Ok I apologize for this. I've never heard of GarageBand before all this, and was just assuming it was a game. After looking into it, it appears as though I'm gonna have to disallow that one. Sorry Jespher, you can make your replacement pick at any time.
