My Pick:

Oregon Trail II (PC 1996)

Your next pick died of dysentery. Mother has cholera. You decide to rest for 5 days.

I love this game haha.

I had forgoten about that. Or rather the first one since by the time of II the gaming world had kind of passed it by and I was off exploring the newfangled shooters and whatnot. Original was a lot of fun though.

Ultima III - Exodus 1983

There are two REAL good Ultima games, but I had to go with my favorite. Ultima III was the first game I "hacked" at all of 9 years old, and was able to run around and kill all of Britannia's guards, including Lord British while playing on my IBM PC jr. Great game, and it was fun exploring. The graphics looked nothing like the box, and you had to use your imagination a bit... But all in all this was one of the games I ended up playing for over a year.

With all this Oregon Trail talk, I started to feel nostalgic. Yeah, I also feel like the guy who bid $351 after the last dude bid $350. So sue me. Anyway, my next pick:

Oregon Trail (1985) - Apple IIe

Anybody else enjoy killing people off as quickly as possible?

Now that's the game the way I remember it. :D

Fun too. Even if you're not psychotic enough to kill off your own peeps. ;)

Wizardry VIII (2001) - PC
Review

The culmination of one of the oldest franchises in computer gaming (the first one was 1981), this game took 9 years to reach the table, and the expense and delay was the final nail in the coffin of one of the gaming world's most inventive studios (Sir-Tech -- their signature series, also the publisher of Jagged Alliance). Luckily it was a good one to go out on, and with their characteristic big parties, tons of races and classes, free multi-classing etc., the possible ways to go about this one are nearly endless. I beat it twice back in the day, and screwed around trying to either solo it or create a pary of super-strength faerie wizards to bomb fireballs on everybody (downside = they are very fragile) for a long time therafter.

Never heard of the game (becoming a regular occurence lately with PC picks), but good idea to provide a link to the review. I'm gonna do that myself, and encourage others to do it as it makes for a good read, and will help when it comes to the voting process. If I had my time back, I'd provide links with each pick on the draft board

X-Com: UFO Defense (1993) - PC
Review

Back in the early 90s there were a couple of years there were every gamer worth the title was off defending the earth from alien invasion, one base at a time. The game was damn dangerous to your GPA. And yet while it was instantly recognized as a classic at the time it came out, I somehow came at the whole series *** backwards, not picking it up until the sequel released the next year. The joke was that the sequel was almost exactly ther same game, only reskinned so that now it took place "underwater". So if you had played the first X-Com, the sequel felt like an exact duplicate I am sure. I did it the reverse way, and so ironically the original felt like the copycat. In any case, this was the first, and a groundbreaking combination of small squad tactics, base building, resource allocation -- and a load of fun again and again. Been several modern ripoff attempts that have fallen rather pathetically short of the mark set by this one.

Write-up of its awesomeness to come later - I'm on my way to the Big Apple.

You know, this is one of those games I just never tried playing. Don't know why, but I had my favorites and never bothered looking at this one on my way to others.....

If anybody wants to play this again let me know... I have the emulator and game.

It's still fun... I even beat Stephen Meek again.

Bard's Tale - 1985 - Commodore 64

OK guys.. FIRST game with what was called at the time "moving graphics" on the monster cards.. I remember fighting the all mighty conjurer and his arm would point down at you.. lol GREAT game overall. I loved it and went on to play Bard's Tale II as well.

Well damn -- I have been kind of working my way backwards, and that was definitely one of those coming up. Very highly thoguht of at the time. Gotta love those system requirements too -- amazing they actually made full games inside of 128K.

We-ellll

ok then

Final Fantasy Tactics 1998 PSX

One of the best 'enhanced' chess games I have ever played hands down.

I kinda get the feeling that this rounds "Zelda" or "Mario" series might be this one, so I'm taking my favorite one right now.

Mega Man X (1994) - SNES

Review

I loved all the bosses in this game, but what I loved the most about this one was the upgrades and energy tanks you could find within the 8 levels. So much fun, and a couple were very hard to find.

Pick approved! (Y)

I like MMX a lot, relative to other video games, even though it's actually only my third-favorite game in the X series, and only my seventh-favorite Megaman game overall (eighth if Command Mission counts as a Megaman game)

I never even considered the rest of them. It's hard to "not like" them, because Mega Man games are Mega Man games (didn't like 64), but I think this is much better than the others in the X series. Then again, this is the only one I ever spent a lot of time playing.

tradepeja says:

Conker's Bad Fur Day

Rare's best game other than their FPS's.

Conker's Bad Fur Day is a Nintendo 64 video game developed and published by Rare, and distributed by Nintendo. The game stars Conker the Squirrel, a Rare character who had previously appeared in other games marketed towards children, such as Diddy Kong Racing for the N64 and Conker's Pocket Tales for the Game Boy Color. Marketed as an "adult" platform game, Bad Fur Day features scatological humour, cartoon violence, sexual themes and a penchant for parodies. The game however got very high critic reviews, despite its limited advertising, and has received a cult following. A remake of the game was made available on the Xbox in 2005...

I already did the best I could by unveiling "the list". If that didn't speed things up, I'm sure nothing will
