This always seems to swing back to me on a Thursday/Friday. Which are my busiest days and nights in college. It may be tomorrow by the time I can make my pick, although there are still four people ahead of me so I might be getting ahead of myself.

Sticking with the female theme, and I was a bit torn whether to take the solo artist or the group that made her great. Ultimately, I know more of her individual songs than the band's, so I'm scooping her up! Epic voice, passion, presence, and socially conscious to boot, this performer has an extensive catalog going back to the 70s. With my 15th choice, I select:

I'm struggling a bit because every artist left on my list that I really like either has only one good album or is very similar to others I've already picked. I'm debating whether to branch out to people I'm less familiar with to get better variety. But for now I won't. Instead I'll pick:

With hits that are nostalgic (like Gin and Juice) as well as more recent songs I like (like Beautiful) there's plenty of good stuff from him to add to my island.

Alright, so my island so far has three acts that have a lot of electronic elements, which is too low, and one female act, which is way to low. With that in mind, two birds, one stone and stuff:

Why I Started Listening: Because I love Mz Carlsson's style, plain and simple. The lady has swagger! Also, the music is pretty awesome to. There's no one I'd rather listen to talk about how great they are, especially since Robyn's danceability factor is off the charts, too. However, these things only apply to the last few albums. At the beginning of her career she did more Soul/R&B stuff, also brilliantly of course. Moreover, something not really present on my island either, so I'm up to three birds now (hopefully those weren't albatrosses that would be bad in a multitude of ways).

Well, this guy wasn't on my list initially because I presumed he would be gone in the first 5 rounds, but given that he's lasted this long, I'll gladly nab him.
My pick:
Bryan Adams
This guy isn't in my top 5 artists of all time, but he has enough songs that I really like to justify taking him here. I'm not going to deny that his voice can be slightly grating in some of his songs, but when he gets it right, he gets it very right! He has some songs that are nostalgic and heart warming, and that mean a lot to me. I suspect they do to him too. It's a shock to me that he's still available given his global popularity. Maybe people have forgotten all about him?
And the timeless classic:

Oh no, not forgotten about, and I'm pretty sure he was the guy Alexander was hint hint hudge nudging about last round. I even went back and took a look through his stuff again having once been a fan. It was between he and Mellencamp for me for that niche (intially it was between them and Seger, until Seger got taken), but just too much stuff seemed to be pushing the cheese limit for me after 25 years despite my love for Summer of '69).

We all know the Trainspotting joke about Lou Reed, part of it is true as he certainly never been up to his former band par and he released some pretty uninspiring junk over his career but he has at least three masterpieces on his side (Transformer, Berlin and New York) surrounded by a pretty strong supporting cast (Street Hassle, The Blue Mask, Magic and Loss). One of the things I love about him is that every one of his three "classics" has a very different personality and sound from the other, Transformer being the glam, vicious and poppy one, Berlin being the slow and rock-bottom depressed one and New York being the mature, realistic one. Rock'n'Roll Animal provides some Velvet Underground tunes and that doesn't hurt.

With this pick I draft, Megadeth.
I love heavy thrash/speed metal and since I couldn’t get Metallica, Megadeth are probably the next best thing.
Musicianship wise they may have even one-upped Metallica. At one time they boldly referred to themselves as the world’s state of the art speed metal band. With Dave Mustaine’s complex surgically precise riffing and Marty Friedman’s virtuoso neoclassical soloing, they could back up such a claim, too.
“Peace Sells but Who’s Buying” and “Rust in Peace” contain some of the best heavy metal in existence. I also quite like a lot of their later more commercial work.

With this pick I draft, Loreena McKennitt.
She's quite possibly my favorite vocalist. I've been a big fan every since "Mummer's Dance" was a minor hit in the late 90s.
Her angelic voice is the main attraction but she's also quite a good producer and arranger/composer. She plays the harp, piano, and accordion, as well.
Her blend of Celtic, renaissance, and world music makes great mood music. Great for turning up and just relaxing to when I want something different from the rock, metal, pop, etc. I usually listen to.

I was quite torn on who to pick on this one, I've been drafting quite off the top of my head but I had set what my bottom four would be on day one. In the end I decided to go for variety and since I've got no saxophones on in my island, I pick:
Morphine (1990-1999)

Sample Song: Super Sex (from Yes, 1995) // Cure for Pain (from Cure for Pain)
This is basically uber depressed sax + bass + drums with Mark Sandman's baritonal voice over it. Great stuff. I may come back with a better writeup tomorrow.

Damn right I am! They would have been a 3rd round pick for me, if not earlier, depending on how things would have shaken out.
Easily my favorite of the "Big 4", if you will. I would put up Rust in Peace against any of Metallica's albums, knowing that it would knock most of them out except for Master of Puppets. While I think the Marty Friedman era was fantastic, it got a little stale towards the end, but now Dave's turned in quite a few solid albums.
I could post everything up until the Cryptic Writings album, (which I feel did them in much like Metallica's Black album), but here's some more recent stuff to show how nicely they've bounced back. Mustaine has seriously stepped up his game, and now that Chris Broderick is in the band, there's a renewed energy that I haven't heard in years.

Maybe he doesn't realize that Rush was already taken. Other than that, I can't imagine anyone else, unless he's thinking about Robin Sparkles, who is a fictional character anyway.
