I swear I haven't heard of about a 1/3 of the artists picked. William Blake has picked only three that I have heard and Jespher and pdxKingsFan are off my radar. I believe WB is from Europe so that is perectly understandable. If I were in this, I'd still have a couple all time favorites still waiting to be picked. Point being, if I ever take part in this, the groups I love are so damn old that I could pick them very late although truth be told, if I go along with the idea that I am isolated on a beach, I wouldn't want to do without them and would blow the picks early.

Is Treme any good? I've tried to keep up with some of what the old Wire people have been doing over the years (Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, True Blood and so on) and with the exception of Luther, I haven't been disappointed. If you say Treme is worthwhile, it's going on the list right now.

Out of all the shows you mentioned it's the most similar to The Wire, not because of the plot, but because of the pacing, the dialogues and the way it deals with social and political issues. In fact they have the same creator: David Simon. So yes, it's worthwhile, especially if you like music.

Well I've lost most of my country backups in case my original backup to Garth Brooks was taken. Kudos to the Jimmy Buffett, John Denver and especially Steve Earle picks. Margaritaville, Country Boy, Guitar Town and Copperhead Road are all in my top 10 country songs. I know Buffett and Earle are not technically classified as country, but they're closer to country than rock & roll, so that works for me. Anyway time to take my #2 country pick:
Alan Jackson
Unlike any other country artist, I just find Alan Jackson so easy to listen to. And I like pretty much everything he's done which I can't say about any other artist in the genre. For anyone wondering why I had Brooks higher is because Friends in Low Places is without a doubt my #1 country song. Jackson sings my (distant) #2 and definitely has the most songs in my top 20, so happy to have him aboard.

If your favorite season of The Wire was the second, you'll like Treme.
If, however, you thought the second season of The Wire was pointless and meandering and just wanted the show to get back to gangsters shooting each other, you'll probably hate Treme.
The pace is definitely more of a slow burn with this one. The biggest plot moves tend to develop over the course of a season, rather than over the course of an episode. But the music is unquestionably great. And, as a resident for a bit over a year now, the version of New Orleans it gives is wonderfully diverse and pretty accurately reflects what it feels like to actually live here.

I think my island has enough headbanging bands to last me for quite some time. So I have decided that for my last 5 picks i'm going into a totally different direction and will pick my "guilty pleasure" artists.
So for my final pick for this genre, i'm taking my favorite trash metal band of all time:

Oddly enough, Anthrax is responsible for one of the best love ballads ever:
I never could seem to get into them after the Belladonna era, but Persistence of Time was certainly one of the formative albums of my teenage years (and a good dose of "I'm The Man" never hurt...)

I actually thought the first Bush album was one of their best albums top to bottom but after that they went straight to suck. I'm glad someone picked them. They are probably my favorite of the Big 4 and the one I return to most often.

Ok, cool, it's on the list (i've actually already watched the first two episodes and came away impressed). As for season two of The Wire: loved it. Not only did I find the machinations behind the whole drug trade fascinating, but it also has some of my favourite dialogue. Bunk's induction into the unit, all clad in Lacrosse gear and talking trash is one of the great moments in TV.

This one is on par with the Okkervil River pick, imo. Enjoy their music, but would never ever would have thought they might get drafted.

Love the Anthrax pick. They have a certain "groove" that other metal bands can't imitate (ST comes close). Surprised a little that it was the next thrash to go, but still, nice pick. NFB is one of the nicest metal ballads out there. Their B sides album (Attack of the Killer Bs?) also has some other music that's pretty good.
