Training camp in 2 weeks!! Hooray!!

In past years the Kings seem to invite an additional 6 or 7 players to training camp over and above the roster. However, I just read today (9/16) that Toronto will go to training camp with only their roster players to get an early start on cranking up to the season opening 4 weeks later.

That made me wonder if the Kings would do the same. They have 3 new faces (Brown, BJax and Thompson) and two who came during the season last year (without training camp) in Beno and Williams for a total of 15 roster players. Of course SAR is a big ? and likely will not stay and then there is KT, our favorite Albatross: he of big wingspan who glides many miles from shore and not seen very often.

Would seem possible they invite a couple of "bigs". But then again, maybe not as they could go with just 14 including KT. Makes me wonder who's decision it is about training camp rosters. I'm sure GP is the final say but wonder if Reggie has much input or does he go with the hand dealt him?

13 days and counting to the end of the dreaded TDOS....... :D

I'm sure we'll get some training camp invites, as always, just to take a look at things., but there are basically no roster spots open at all unless SAR retires, and then its only spot #15. Meanwhile we have aload of kids to work on already, an actually have too many people trying to make the active roster. Sure Douby, Sheldon, Mikki, Brad and even Bobby are probably all goners within 2 years, but right now, today, seems virtually any camp invite would get the nod above them barring an absolutely miraculous performance, so the people this time around are really just fodder of the maybe we'll keep an eye on you variety.

For the most part the invited players are there as extra bodies for practice and not much else. I think the idea is to cut down on the amount of injuries. I'm not quite sure how that works, unless its to give some of the older players more time to get up to speed.

I believe that Hawes missed training camp last year also. Hopefully all will arrive healthy and will stay that way. I'm curious to see what kind of offense Reggie is going to install.

Sooner the better...

This is truely the doldrums of TDOS right now. I cant wait for training camp....Training camp is 'homer time' what with all the articles that will come out about so and so exceding expections.

Between Hawes, Thompson, Greene, and Martin's continuing developement I feel like being recklessly optimistic this season.

Yes.

Players go through lots of little naggy injurys and may miss a few practices. You need extra players so you can continue to do 5 on 5 drills.

Toronto is making a mistake.

Yeah, that is kinda my attitude now. Been a long time since we had such a potentially great bunch of "kids" including 3 new "bigs". Let's hope Coach Reggie puts his ego aside and does a 101% TEAM thing in camp, doing what is best for the team both defense and offense. Even under the best of circumstances we can't go hoping for too much this year. Playoffs is a distant and foggy thought as this year is the build and set a roster year. I just hope Coach Reggie comes through for all of us. He is my worry more than the "kids" and the team. ;)

Wow, I have never seen you around before. Pleased to meet you. Your name literally made me laugh out loud. Please tell me you only mean it literally.

Dude, where have you been?????

He/she (sorry, not sure which) has almost 500 posts, been here about the same amount of time as you, and that is the best you can do?

I don't see any invitees sticking around after training camp. The talent level will be lower this year because the better prospects won't come here.

its whatever... i want to be optimistic but i just dont see this team being very good... i just hope that its fun to watch.

Haha, just haven't seen him/her much and if I have I guess I was blinded by the light of the godly name.

Also I have been on this board in different forms since 2003.

And yes, that's the best I can do. Although I'm not sure if I even want people to understand what I mean. Actually, I'm sure I don't.

Obviously, vagueness is your strong suit. Or, you suffer from a serious eating disorder.

When I realized yesterday that it was only two more weeks, I was excited. I am so ready for TDOS to be over. :)

Im kinda freaking out. I really think my love of basketball is gone because I could really care less that the season is here. HELP:(

Seriously, im trying to pinpoint exactly what happened. It's gotta be because im so juiced about college football and the NFL. Fantasy football is in full swing and the baseball playoffs are about to start. But it's always been like that. Ive always been excited that the NBA was getting ready to start. This season is different. Maybe subconciously I know the team is gonna move, I don't know. Maybe my mind is trying to distance itself from the team to make a kings move a little more easier to handle.

Well your subconcious may think the team is going to move. Honestly, I think there are quite a few Sacramento folks who are emotionally distancing themselves in case the team does leave. It's tough waiting to see what's going to happen with a new arena.

Also, I think many are waiting to see a team they can fall in love with again.

I'm still excited to see what the season brings. :)

Like it or not, an Arena deal dragging on like it has is bound to affect fans and their support emotions. As I have agreed many times on the Arena thread, no news is bad news. But the other side of the emotional coin is the excitement of the 5 "kids" and the chance to see improvement and energy and not just from one guy. And the "excitement" of seeing whether or not Coach Reggie lasts the year or gets an extension.

I will give you props for being consistant, and I think we both hope your wrong.

i hope that im wrong about the team sucking, it would be nice to see them sneak into the playoffs somehow... draft pick be damned. even if they got swept in the playoffs, winning would be a nice change of pace this season....

And, just as I've objected in the Arena thread, I'll make the same objection here:

This arena deal is NOT dragging on. It's within the expected timetable. And while TO YOU no news is bad news that doesn't necessarily hold true for everyone. It's a personal thing. I know just as many people who have taken a wait and see approach towards the CalExpo proposition and are still excited about the coming season.

I don't see the two issues as inextricably wound together. If you do, perhaps it's because you're out of town and don't "rub elbows" with that many other Kings fans?

Even up here, two hours from Arco on a good traffic day, virtually every Kings fan I've talked to - and there are a LOT of us up here - is really getting excited about the coming season.

First we elect Kevin Johnson, then we get the khakis, then we get the chicks.
