Trade with Phoenix

If ever we draft a big in this draft (i.e. Drummond, Henson, etc.), we still will have a hole in the SF spot. Since our pick is #5 in this draft, I think what we need at SF is a role player. IMO, Jared Dudley could be that guy. He can shoot threes, good IQ, big body, and a willing defender. And he's signed to a reasonable contract that runs beyond resigning years of DMC/Evans. The trade I'll propose is:

Thornton/Honeycutt/36th for Dudley/Warrick/13th.

At 13th we draft Marshall.
Then we sign T-Will.

Our roster would be:

C-DMC/Whiteside
PF-Drummond(or Henson)/Warrick/Hayes
SF - Dudley/Salmons/Garcia
SG - Evans/TWill
PG - IT/Marshall/Freddette

For Phoenix: They'll most likely be losing Nash and a lot of free agents. Having Thornton over another wing project would be more than reasonable. They're also loaded up front with Lopez, Morris, and Gortat which makes drafting the like of Moultrie and other bigs available at the 13th pick range less than desirable. With Thornton on board, they'll have a proven scorer at the 2 which would allow them to spend for a star PG(i.e. Williams) or proven big.

I like this trade and actually thought of this trade myself. My first reaction was that Phoenix might feel their giving up to much and would rather keep Dudley and their 1st (13th pick overall). Some may also think Dudley is not the lock down defender we need which probably is the case but if he is just an above average defender I think that's good enough. He's consistently been a solid 3 point shooter more so than Thornton which is what we need.

you traded Thornotn for a bunch of very mediocre roleplayers who may or may not have been Nashed into effectiveness, and then Marshall, who is not exactly an area of need. If you're going to do a trade Thornton scenario, at least get me back a surefire impact guy. Because Marcus WILL start pouring in 20ppg if you trade him to Phoenix, and its not going to be much comfort on our end sitting atop a huge pile of mediocre MLE type roster clutter.

That's basically my concept Brick. :p
Trading a sure 20ppg player to a team that will most like be starting from scratch. Marcus will surely torch teams every night and he'll be one of Phoenix' cornerstones moving forward. However, I do think that Dudley is very underrated player and that all player coming in will fill holes of this team. Warrick can be that guy you put on quick and undersized PF. Marshall would be the floor general who will elevate the bench plays with surgical passes and court savvy that could come the level of Jason Kidd in the future.

And moving forward, Dudley's long term and cheap salary with insure this team's chance of keeping the core of DMC and Reke for the long run. I worship DMC as the prime player of this team and all I'm not a fan of adding another star, since I trust in the whoever will get at #5 is a legit phenom. We need role players willing to wait for their turn to shoot after Reke, IT, and DMC. We need role player willing to defend and mature enough to know that they don't need to fill stat sheets alone.

Oh I forgot to add, that once Thornton is gone. Reke at SG should be beasting for us. And this also increases our chance of signing T-Will.
