No spectators are allowed at any of the events (Delta starting to hit Tokyo hard) and I’m in Sacramento right now riding the Olympics out anyways.
This isn't exactly news to me but reminds me why the hell are they even going through with it?
Also with under 3 mins to play in the basketball game today and knowing the result I was wondering how in the hell they blew it but ... wow.

Titmus (AUS) upsets defending Gold Medalist Ledecky (USA) in the finals of the Women's 400m freestyle.
Congratulations to Titmus, but it bears acknowledging that the 400m is Ledecky's weakest event. If Titmus beats her in the 800m, I'll be impressed.

Am I anti American for being glad they lost? Hoping it's for the greater good as in the NBA realizing this wussified form of basketball is an atrocity and that they should go back to playing the way the rest of the world plays.
I was glad another American team lost and don't think I'm anti-American for it. Although the France team has a lot of NBA players I am pretty sure the other strong teams do too, this isn't 1992.
When there's no Kings on the team, I don't feel bad rooting against team USA in the Olympics. There's just as many NBA players now on the international teams. Also they had a bunch of chances to tie it at the end and kept shooting threes instead of taking it to the hole so they got what they deserved.
They are one of two US teams I think of as entitled villains in international competition and don't really feel anything for either way. When Boogie was on the team in 16 I at least felt some Kings pride.

Yes, there are several teams that treat winning the competition as their natural right and come off overly confident and like heels.
Soviet hockey until the downfall of the union, and based on what I saw in 2010 in Vancouver possibly even Russian hockey today despite a massive fall off, would be an example. The USA post dream team had that aura, and watching them fail in 2004 was equal parts sad and exciting. This new team I wouldn't call villains but they aren't a team I feel any sense of pride in. The women's basketball team by contrast is quite likeable despite being every bit as dominant.

The difference is that there are strict rules in place for testing positive for various drugs (including weed).
While no one wants a sexual predator around, it would have to be proven. He has allegations against him and they are investigating, but no charges havebeen made. While this looks bad, if you eliminate anyone with allegations made against them, you make it easy for competitors to get rid of their opponents. I'm not saying it would happen often, but it would definitely happen.
I asked my uncle about this since he was a top rated track star who ran in the Olympic trials twice. He said that runners will often use other substances to cover up steroid micro-dosing before big events which is why the US Olympic committee didn't work harder to get Richardson cleared.

You seem to be trying to play coy, here, and I don't understand for whose benefit? Rather than go out of your way to make sure I know who you're not talking about, I would take it as a kindness if you would name names, instead.

I said that this year I think they are more sad than villains but in general after 1992 which seemed like a special thing, they just came off as more bullies with an attitude that if we sent our pros nobody could touch us, this exploded in Athens somewhat delightfully, since then they've lost their aura but I also don't feel any attachment to them.
I really don't want to discuss my issues with the soccer team other than to say I am turned off by how they have used their success to denigrate their male counterparts lack thereof and twisted it into a political football.
So, basically, you're riding out on this tired old trope, whether it's true, or not? Something that arguably hasn't been true, since at least 2004 (if it was ever true, at all), and definitely hasn't been true since 2008, but you're just going to stick to that unfair label, anyway, because it may have been true, once? Do you still refer to your local team as the "Jailblazers," too?
