The Tankathon Thread (since that's apparently what this is now)

Pelicans lakers spurs and blazers lose, but the tank is strong this year. I just wanted us to not get blown out tonight, so a close loss and actually having a small lead late in the 4th against the nuggets is basically a win for me.
Thus far, we're following the Chicago Bulls model to a T. Look better after the all-star trade but also don't look so good that people start to notice. The difference is we've still got our pick while the Bulls were pretty much just playing out the season because they had to.

The western teams doing their best to prove why they play-in shouldn’t be a thing. Nothing says a problem like a team 15 games under .500 making the play-in tournament.

The NBA ought to consider revising the format so only .500 or better are eligible. Possibly even give the #1 seed a bye if that means 8 teams don't qualify.

Remaining games:

Kings projected losses 52

Spurs:
Have 7 likely losses….
Need 3 more losses to get to 52 among
Portland (3)
New Orleans (2)
Houston (1)
OKC (1)

Portland has 5 likely losses.
Need 5 more losses to get to 52 among
San Antonio (3)
New Orleans (2)
Houston (2)
OKC (2)

New Orleans has 7 likely losses

Portland (2)
LA Lakers (2)
Houston (1)

The combination for the Kings to win is pretty remote at this point if they don’t upset:
Milwaukee
Celtics
Chicago
Miami
Phoenix
Golden State
Clippers

Assumes PHX rests everyone the last game and we win it and we beat NO.

Bad Woss for the Blazers tonight.
Assuming the Kings lose to: Celtics, Bucks, Chicago, Phoenix, @Miami, Golden State and @Clippers

and that they win: @Indiana, @Orlando, @Houston, @Houston, New Orleans and @Pheonix (last game)

Portland can’t win more than 4 against: @New York, @Indiana, @Detroit, San Antonio, Houston (2), @San Antonio(2), OKC, @OKC New Orleans, @New Orleans, Utah ( last game)

Pretty hard to go 4-9 or worse against that line-up.

Lord almighty, what a cake last stretch of schedule. Jazz might still have to play at the end of the year with only 2.5 games separating 4-6 and a 4 game lead of the 7th seed Twolves who are red hot. The great news is that even if they do get pummeled, it's going to be at the expense of teams we want to gets wins (OKC, Spurs, Indy).

Holding that 5-6 spot is crucial to staying in the top 8 if 1 or 2 teams leap in the lottery and we get screwed as usual. At the very least, means we'll get a shot at the 2nd tier (Davis, Murray, Griffin, Mathurin)

We really need that 5-6 spot but we do need fox and domas to get more time together and build chemistry. If they’re smart, 1st half play who you think will get big mins next year, second half play the youngs/see what you have at the end of your bench.

Until somewhat recently, yes, but the last two lotteries before the format change (2017 and 2018) resulted in the Kings jumping up ahead of others. That's twice within the last what, 5 years? In the last 3 years we stayed where we were slotted to draft pre-lottery. I don't see that as getting screwed.

if Portland rolls out the lineup they did last night it’s hard to imagine them winning more than a few games even with the cake schedule. Portland probably ends up 5 or 6
With us ending up at 7 just ahead of Spurs

It’s possible. Guessing the bench Hart who just scored 44. The problem is teams like Houston and OKC don’t want to lose their spots either and that’s 4 games right there.

Portland having 3 against San Antonio is good for those of us pro tank. Someone has to win.

This stretch coming up is really interesting. The season seems lost from a play in perspective and yet we are somehow still in it. NO has lost a couple in a row and the Lakers are spiraling. To make the playin we either need to win the next 5 games in a row, beat Houston twice and win against New Orleans or lose the next 3 or 4 and likely secure our spot in the top 7 for the draft.

This is the case every year. Which is why the Kings always wind up with about the worst possible draft pick you can get without making the playoffs.

They need to just shut it down. They're already going to win pointless games against bad teams. No need to push to win pointless games against good teams too.

Yeh, the issue is I don't think Indiana, New Orleans, Spurs, Knicks or Kings are willing to pull the plug. The only teams willing to do that are OKC and Portland. Our chances aren't good against Milwaukee Boston and Phoenix but if we win all three of those games they might as well just go for it. If they lose all three they will likely secure the 7th pick.

If I had to guess it ends up like this:

Houston
Orlando
OKC
Detroit
Portland
Indiana
Sacramento
San Antonio
New York
New Orleans

I'll be praying to the basketball gods that OKC gets shafted and we jump into the top 4.

But what about building the winning culture and momentum heading into next season? It's worked wonders every other season we've done it.
