The Tankathon Thread (since that's apparently what this is now)

Yeh, the issue is I don't think Indiana, New Orleans, Spurs, Knicks or Kings are willing to pull the plug. The only teams willing to do that are OKC and Portland. Our chances aren't good against Milwaukee Boston and Phoenix but if we win all three of those games they might as well just go for it. If they lose all three they will likely secure the 7th pick.

If I had to guess it ends up like this:

Houston
Orlando
OKC
Detroit
Portland
Indiana
Sacramento
San Antonio
New York
New Orleans

I'll be praying to the basketball gods that OKC gets shafted and we jump into the top 4.
That's probably the best case scenario there unless Indiana goes full Kangz and pulls themselves out of the 6th seed.

I don't know about you, but even though I want them to lose so they can get a better draft position.....I never root for them to miss a shot when I'm watching the games.

This is the case every year. Which is why the Kings always wind up with about the worst possible draft pick you can get without making the playoffs.

They need to just shut it down. They're already going to win pointless games against bad teams. No need to push to win pointless games against good teams too.
while I agree with you, if they can win 2 out of these next 3 game (I know they probably won’t), they’re definitely gonna go for it

Spurs won, Knicks won and the Blazers lost. So overall, a pretty good night for the tank with the Kings L. It really does seem like 8 is the floor for the Kings at this point and probably more likely end up 7th with the Blazers. The Spurs schedule is just so cake to finish out the year, I don't see any way they make up that ground.

NOP are at 28 wins in the 9 spot
LAL, New York and Washington all at 29 wins in the 10-11-12 spots

Even if we only lose 1 game the rest of the season, it seems damn near impossible to catch them at this point. Those teams would pretty much have to lose out.

Portland’s upcoming 6 game stretch:

Indiana
Detroit
San Antonio
Houston
Houston
Okc

That is probably the easiest stretch in NBA history and yet they are tanking so hard they probably win one.

New York and the Pels have separated themselves enough where the farthest we can fall is 8th.

So many things wrong here. I’ll just say the most obvious, the odds of getting the #1 pick at 5 is 16.67% greater than the odds at 6. 16.67% is significant.
not to mention 5 versus 8 or 9. That said looking at Indiana’s remaining schedule versus ours we have little chance of getting the 5 spot given we have 2 games against Houston still. So the best outcome for us would be a Portland win in Indiana.

My initial thought was that we had to watch out for Portland, but even after today they've got an amazingly cupcake schedule:

@ Detroit
San Antonio
Houston
Houston
OKC
New Orleans
@ San Antonio
@ San Antonio
@ OKC
@ New Orleans
@ Dallas
Utah

That's 10 straight games against teams with fewer than 30 wins (as of now, all records .414 or under) before two games against teams likely to be resting players. Even the Washington Generals get 4 wins from that schedule.

Perhaps but Portland is taking tanking to a new low….

Incredible. The team that made the future move is about to pass the team that made the now move. It helps, so I’m not complaining. But we suck. Lmao
We have two games against Houston and a game against Indiana we will play all our guys. We aren’t staying in 5th against Indiana as they have a tough remaining schedule. The bigger question is how badly does Portland suck. They are literally sitting everyone with a pulse.

of course if my theory is correct they will have no chance of getting a top 4 pick. I think Silver pulls all their balls after what happened to OKC last year.

I think Portland wins one more game, they are tanking that hard. I think Indiana wins 3 more including todays game. Spurs win 4 more and Kings win 5.

Blazers 27 wins
Pacers 27 wins
Kings 30 wins
Spurs 31 wins

let’s hope that one win the Blazers get isn’t against the Spurs

we seem to be trying hard which means we'll lose every game too.

I will try not to get too worked up. The only thing I will say about Portland is it was fairly obvious this was coming and I tried to tell a lot of folks here [in Portland, not here the board] that Becky going to that job would be the worst possible thing for her career ... very curious if they allow Billups to come back even though they pulled the rug out from under him. Can't see any way that's possible but you never know.

Pacers put the beat-down on Portland, we're now tied with them record wise. Monte needs to pull out all the stops on that March 23rd game. They beat us earlier in the year, so a loss there would not only put some separation, but give us the tie-breaker in the season series if we end up tied with them at the end of the year.

Lottery ties are broken by coin toss.

Looks like the injury gods are going to help out more than anything

Yep, i'd be stunned if they brought Fox back for the Indy game. And it certainly looks like we have the built-in excuse to keep Sabonis out. That's the biggest swing game left on the schedule, just one the Kings really do need to lose.

If Davion/Trey Lyles/Damian Jones beat the Pacers on the road, god speed. Nothing you can really do at that point.

Indy with a dub is good

Spurs are currently beating a Curry-Less dubs. We can get some nice separation for the higher portion of the lottery today

If there was ever a time for Tyrese to look for his own shot it would be a revenge game against us, I hope he drops 50

and if this crew can play again like they did today, more power to them. But I suspect there will be some coming back to earth after almost stealing a trap game against the best team in the league in front of an energized home crowd

I wouldn’t mind a Indy win. What I do mind is everyone proclaiming Indy won the trade and the kings were idiots for making the trade, ignoring the fact we would be without fox and/or domas and losing actually helps us long term.
