Superhero Draft - team write-ups and post-draft rankings to be done

Uggggh! Aleksandar you drafted my next player in que. I am tempted to draft the one man who can kill Chuck Norris but it would cheapen both of our picks and he might not be eligible.

Now for my pick...

The Thing

Thing.jpg

Known for his famous battle cry, "It's clobberin' time!", The Thing will be a great addition to my Goku/Spawn team. He has a great sense of humor and although he may not look like it, he is quite intelligent.

As a result of exposure to cosmic rays, the Thing possesses high levels of superhuman strength, stamina, and resistance to physical injury. His strength has continued to increase over the years due to a combination of further mutation and special exercise equipment designed for him by Reed Richards. He is capable of surviving impacts of great strength and force without sustaining injury. He is also able to withstand gunfire from high caliber weapons as well as armor piercing rounds. The Thing's highly advanced musculature generates fewer fatigue toxins during physical activity, granting him superhuman levels of stamina.the Thing's senses can withstand greater levels of sensory stimulation than an ordinary human, with the exception of his sense of touch. His lungs possess greater efficiency and volume than those of an ordinary human. As a result, the Thing is capable of holding his breath for much greater periods of time.Despite his brutish, even monstrous form, the Thing suffers no change in his personality nor his level of intelligence from before. Despite his greatly increased size, the Thing's agility and reflexes remain at the same level they had been prior to his transformation. The Thing is an exceptionally skilled pilot and is also a great and relentless hand to hand combatant. His fighting style incorporates elements of boxing, wrestling, judo, jujutsu, and street-fighting techniques, as well as hand-to-hand combat training from the military.

Now for my pick...

The Thing

Awesome Thing picture.

I just have to point out, as I did with Godzilla, the lame 70's Saturday Morning cartoon counterpart.

Instead of Ben Grimm, space pilot who was transformed by cosmic rays, he was Benjy Grimm, a teenager who transformed into The Thing by use of a magic ring.

He activated the ring by yelling: "Thing Ring, do your thing!" (I am not kidding) causing orange rocks to fly out of nowhere and form a protective shell around him.

It even worked while riding a bicycle.

It was sort of like The Thing by way of Captain Marvel. :p

This guy may be obscure enough to grab later, but so many drafters are on similar wavelengths, and my alternates for this role on the team are gone. I choose as my field leader yet another member with an appelation:

Mister Majestic

Mister Majestic (Wildstorm Comics) was otherwise known as Lord Majestros of the planet Khera. Majestros has physical abilities on par with the Superman of Silver Age comics. He is also a scientific genius and, as a virtual immortal, a warrior with several thousand years of battle experience.

Majestic1.jpg

The Superman-like powerset he has shown include: superstrength, superspeed, flight, laser eyebeams, genius level intellect, micro vision, ice breath, the ability to survive in space, invulnerability to conventional weaponry. He can also project energy from his hands, manipulate photons and transmit data through his eyebeams, and is resistant to psychic attack.

He has used his scientific genius and knowledge of advanced alien technogy to create a number of useful devices, including ships for interstellar travel, sentient machines, bombs, mechanical combat suits, and other more specialized machines from scrap metal and basic materials. He is capable of designing and building these devices in nanoseconds using his superspeed.

He also uses his intellect and immesurable military experience to quickly assess battle situations, identify weaknesses in opponents, and develop plans of attack. He has extensive training in stealth and use of bladed weapons, and carries in his armor both a invisibility suit and an invisible double-bladed sword.

Feats he has performed include flying into the heart of the sun, flying at greater than light speed for months at a time, and rearranging the planets of the solar system to deceive an alien armada. One story by Alan Moore shows Majestros as one of the last living beings remaining at the death of the known universe.

Then there was the Shazam! (Captain Marvel) live action show, where Billy Batson was a teenage boy who drove around the country in an RV with a creep old dude to whom he was NOT related!

shazam-cast.jpg

As Captain Marvel, he had the power to lift styrofoam rocks and fly at aerodynamically improbable angles.

It was supposed to be a secret that Billy is actually Captain Marvel, yet their RV had the lightning bolt logo on the front.

NME thanks for the PM :(

its really not that tough to PM someone.

anyway, my pick:
Matt Parkman (Heroes)

Heroes__Parkman_by_RobD4E.jpg

Matt is a telepath, able to read and manipulate the thoughts of others. In the episode "Out of Time", Bob states that Matt, like his father, should be able to control all aspects of the mind, including thoughts and senses, with practice. Matt originally could not activate his at will, causing him to pick up the thoughts of all those in close proximity to him. He gradually learns to elicit specific thoughts from people, and eventually learns to compel individuals to do as he wishes.

Though Matt's power enables him to read the minds of most people, it can be defeated through various methods. The Haitian's power is able to nullify Matt's, protecting himself and those in his vicinity. Other telepaths, such as Peter Petrelli and Maury Parkman, are also able to shield their minds. Finally, since Matt only speaks English, he cannot understand thoughts in other languages; Noah Bennet is able to defeat Matt's power by thinking in Japanese. Although in "Cold Wars" Matt was able to overcome this while displaying a new ability with his telepathy where he was able to make his victims relive past events by going through their memory, while doing this to his victims such as Noah Bennet, it causes them pain.

Matt's ability to compel others is not as honed as his father's, though he demonstrates the ability at various points. He is able to enter the minds of various individuals in different episodes, including Nathan Petrelli, Molly Walker, and Angela Petrelli. When Maury traps Matt inside Molly's "nightmare world", Matt is able to bring his father in with them and subsequently leave with Molly, trapping Maury in his own nightmare (though Maury escapes). Matt can place suggestions in others through telepathic commands as a form of mind control, but those aware of what he is doing can resist. In "Cautionary Tales", Angela Petrelli initially resists his commands, though she experiences a nosebleed and eventually succumbs. In "Eris Quod Sum", Matt is able to make the villain Knox see an illusion of Matt himself dying, as well as momentarily immobilize him physically.

In Volume Four, the combination of the growth of his telepathy and the precognitive visions induced by Usutu grants him access to the "same plane of consciousness" that other precognitive characters access for their own powers, allowing him to draw the future.

I spent a long time trying to figure out another telepath strong enough to control Phoenix after profa X (who I assumed I could pick up in the last round). People in this draft are thinking out of the box so I think Parkman is a safe bet, ESPECIALLY after what he was able to do with Sylar. Not to mention that whole 'controlling people's planes of consciousness' thing could come in handy.

ok, at the rate xmen are falling, I better take this one while I can. I only hope my other choices are there when this gets back to me.

I'm taking my favorite Cajun, GAMBIT!

Gambit has the mutant ability to tap into the potential energy contained within an object and transform it into kinetic energy upon touching it. When Gambit thus charges an object and throws it at a target, the object releases this energy explosively on impact. Gambit is unable to use this power to charge living objects.
After surgery performed by Mister Sinister, Gambit's powers were restored to their natural potential. He was able to use his power simply by looking at an object that he wished to charge, including living tissue. Gambit could also manipulate the potency of the energy release and could even exercise a measure of control over time.

With the 11th pick of the 3rd round of the Kingsfans Super hero draft Larry89 selects...

ELMINSTER AUMAR
Elminste.gif

Elminster3.jpg

Also known as the "Sage of Shadowdale", he is a powerful wizard featured in many novels by Forgotten Realms creator Ed Greenwood

Elminster appears as a gray-bearded man of weathered visage, gruff tone, alert, dancing eyes, nondescript attire and a hawk like nose. He is almost always smoking a meerschaum pipe that is spouting vile smelling blue or green smoke.Elminster is also a natural shapeshifter, and can appear in virtually any visage or gender.

A natural storyteller, Elminster is normally a witty, clever, and very charming man. He can be imperious, grave, and terrible, however, and furthermore is a consummate actor. He rarely reveals the full extent of his true nature to anyone who is not an extremely close friend. He can portray himself as a trickster, a rake, a stern father figure, or any other stereotype he wants to assume, depending on what he wants to accomplish or what reaction he wants to elicit from those around him.

When the floating city of Thultanthar was returned to Faerûn after their exile in the Plane of Shadow, the Shadovar attempted to attack Shadowdale. Elminster thwarted their plot by blasting one of the shadow princes with his silver fire. Since Shadovar are living shadow magic, and silver fire is pure weave magic, the collision between the two tore at the fabric of reality, creating a rift to the Nine Hells. Elminster realized that the only way to close the portal before legions of devils spilled forth into Toril was to close it from the other side.
In the opening of Elminster in Hell, Elminster entered the portal and narrowly managed to do so, but at the expense of much of his magical strength. Once in Hell he was abducted and enslaved by an outcast Arch-Devil known as Nergal, who wished to discover the secret of Mystra's silver fire. In the most graphic scenes of the The Elminster Series, Elminster was subject to brutal tortures, surviving only because of his exceptional endurance and ability to heal himself with silver fire. While the arch-fiend plundered Elminster's thoughts and memories, Mystra became aware of her favorite servant's plight and entered Hell herself to find him. Realizing that her presence in Hell was overly conspicuous, Mystra retreated and dispatched more subtle agents to find him; first Halaster Blackcloak, the Mad Mage of Undermountain (who was defeated) and then the Simbul. After much searching, the Simbul found him, and together they defeated Nergal and returned home.

One of the most powerful mages in all of fantasy, can warp between times, can send demons back to hell, summon any kind of planar being.

Has every spell in forgotton realms lore, spells include timestop, finger of death, the ability to turn flesh into stone or vice versa...oh yeah, did I mention he has cleric spells? He can ressurect people.

Gandalf doesn't stand a chance.. ;)

He can planeshift, and teleport, so I'm sure he could make his way here with clairaudience or some other nerd alert.

Well whew, not sure how this obvious guy has been overlooked, but I was running out of options, so I'll take it:

merlin-rick-wakeman.jpg

Merlin

Given the less than brainy nature of my first two picks (I mean, one of them became famous for saying dude all the time and the other typically solves problems by boinking things on the head) I needed a wise counselor to get them pointed in the right direction. I was not surprised that Yoda didn't make it back to me, but to find that perhaps history's most famous wizard/advisor was still out there more than made up for it.

Famous though he be, the full scope of Merlin's powers is something of a mystery. He is a shapeshifter at least, and as the son of an incubus has inherited powers of prophecy and foresight. After that...accounts vary. He may be immortal, or may not. He may use his magic to alter the timeline, or he may not. I was hoping Marvel had done him up in typical omnipotent fashion, and it turns out that maybe they have -- as "Merlyn", wiht typical sueprpowers of knowing all magic and all sciences yada yada. But its hard to tell whether Merlyn is superhero or supervillain, so I think I will stick to the orginal Merlin, the prototype for all wizard's to follow.

Wasn't overlooked. He bounced on and off my list quite a few times, but decided to go in a different direction. Nice pick up.

Thanx for taking Merlin. I would have been too tempted by him if he fell back to me:). Aslan is already magic enough for my team, but I have a sleeper fallback plan if I feel the need for more spell casters.

While my next pick was originally intended as a last round "oh snap!" parting gift, and could probably still last that long, the recent drafting of one of her rivals over in the villain thread made me nervous enough that someone might start thinking this way that I decided to pull the trigger now. So, yeah, I'm going there:

mothrashowaz.jpg
godzillamothra.jpg

Mothra - kaiju (1961) -- Often mistaken for a villain, thanks to a nasty curse of being big enough that good intentions often contribute to the destruction of entire cities, Mothra is actually most often presented as a benevolent creature charged with protecting Earth and humankind. Especially those inhabitants on a small island of worshippers (convenient for the parameters of this exercise, no?). Despite the delightfully cheesy presentation familiar to us all, many of these kaiju are actually pretty powerful entities, and Mothra is among thier most powerful. Wikipedia has a more complete overview than I'm willing to write up here, but her powers and include psychic abilities, electric strikes, the ability to create powerful and destructive winds with her wings, and a seemingly endless supply of eggs, which she can fertalize herself, that work to make her effectively immortal. Also, since so much of her strength is based on an ability to make new Mothras, she has a selection of powerful attacks in both larval and adult form.

During the mid 90's they started releasing Godzilla noise making action figures. This was to rejuvenate interest in Gozilla and to grab the interest of a new audience. I was part of that new audience and wasted a lot of allowance money and have about a dozen Godzilla and related characters and a destructible city sitting in the closet.

What I'm saying is, you all keep jacking my picks :P

D'oh!

That's okay. I'm still confident in her abilities to protect me and my island when working with the rest of my team.
