starting lineup

PG - Evans, Udrih
SG - Casspi, Garcia
SF - Greene, Brockman
PF - Thompson, Landry, Whiteside
C - Dalembert, Cousins, Whiteside

Maybe Send Whiteside to the D-league?

I dont see Dalembert and Landry in the future of this team ... why? I dont know I just dont imagine we will keep them around when we have young guys who can play the positions for cheaper ... not to mention we need to save money to resign our guys. So I imagine we will trade one or both of Dalembert/Landry at the deadline(or before the year) for a SG or capspace.

For the minutes I have no idea because I would just play to the matchups and the hot hand.

I'm really ******* excited about our team this coming season. I still think we're only a 35-40 win team at best, but we're gonna compete, we're gonna be tough, we're gonna be big, and the team could actually dominate in two or three years, even in the loaded Western conference. I see DMC as our Andrew Bynum, but not mentally weak and injury prone. Could be a 20/10 guy in a short period of time.

The standard lineup I'd go with would be this:
PG: Evans
SG: Rodriguez
SF: Greene
PF: Thompson
C: Dalembert

Bench: Landry (6th man is his best role), Beno, Casspi, Cousins; work in Whiteside and Brockman wherever we can. And we probably still need another point guard.

Dalembert, no. He'll be gone by the deadline; if not, he'll be gone next summer. No way we offer him another contract, unless he turns into an All Star, and still, you'd have to worry about the contract year boost. He's not a part of the team's future; never expected him to be with just one year left on his current deal and us having a chance to get Cousins or Favors in the draft.

Landry? That's a different story. I have to figure that the Kings liked Landry enough to trade Martin away for him, and knowing that they picked up his option for next season (cheap at $3 million, but still, they could have let him walk), I think they want to keep him. Adding Dalembert immediately put him back in his more effective bench role, and if Cousins is what we need him to be, that's where Landry would be going forward. He's not going to get a whole lot of attention in free agency, not from anyone needing a starting PF, because he's a bit small and he's not a good rebounder, as he proved in his time starting for us last season. So if he's going to be either playing out of position at SF (no indication that he either wants to do that or could do so effectively as a starter) or coming off the bench, why not come off the bench with a team that a) wants him, and b) is on the way up? I can't imagine that he'll be looking to break the bank, given his limitations, but he's worth a mid level type deal.

By the way, I really like Carl Landry. I think he is like a better version of Glen Davis, and we saw the boost he gave the Celtics in the Finals. He can play a solid role on a contender, even being a key piece in the playoffs. Sure, if the Lakers or the Magic or some other title contender needing an offensive-minded bench forward comes knocking with a five year MLE deal, we might lose him. But this offseason and the next are going to be really strange, given the free agent bonanza this year and the uncertain labor situation next year. The NFL has been unpredictable this offseason, with contract demands, holdouts, releases, and a bunch of stalemates in general. That's how I anticipate the NBA will be next summer. Maybe that will work in our favor if we want to keep Landry, which I hope we do.

My guess at an opening day starting lineup:

Udrih
Evans
Casspi
Landry
Dalembert

The starting lineup I'd like to see near the end of the season:

Evans
Garcia
Casspi
Thompson
Cousins

I could see Donte Greene swapped for Casspi in either lineup but something tells me Casspi will make a big jump forward this next season and it will be noticeable from the beginning.

Initially Landry and Dalembert will start and that's a good thing. They compliment each other well and giving Cousins time to acclimate himself AND forcing him to challenge for a starting spot are both good things.

Cisco and JT starting at the end of the year would mean that Garcia learned to pair well with Evans and Thompson took a step forward in his growth - both very good signs. But more importantly it would mean Udrih and Landry as high energy bench players along with Greene's versatility and Dalembert's shotblocking and rebounding. THAT is a solid lineup if it works out that way.

And while Westphal will likely tinker relentlessly with the starting lineup, the interesting thing to me is to look at all the versatility the Kings now have.

They can go big at EVERY position if they want. They can go small and run. They can go with a defensive lineup. They can substitute for rebounding.

Best of all the basic character of this team is big and strong and a physical mismatch in the halfcourt. I think this team still needs outside shooting and a SG that can take some of the ballhandling/playmaking pressure off Tyreke while retaining his physical mismatch on opposing PGs, but otherwise I really like the makeup of this roster.

Assuming Cousins performs as we all hope he can I can imagine at some point this year seeing a lineup on the floor of Cousins, Greene (as a stretch 4), Casspi, Garcia (or a FA SG like Morrow) and Tyreke.

With Cousins operating down low and Evans penetration having three shooters on the floor would punish opposing teams that couldn't guard either guy one one one.

Either through caproom or trade I'd love to see this team add more shooting, ballhandling/playmaking and defense in the backcourt but those are the only boxes I've got left to check for this team besides "time to develop."

I haven't been this excited about my team in years. I just hope it plays out somewhere close to how I'm imagining.

A year from now I would LOVE to be talking about this...

C-Cousins-Whiteside
PF-Thompson-Landry
SF-Casspi-Greene
SG-Garcia-ANTONIO ANDERSON :D
PG-Evans-Beno

Landry played a lot of SF when he was in Houston, so I would go with:

Starters

Beno PG
Tyreke SG
Dalembert C
Cousins PF
Landry SF

Bench - Casspi, Greene, Thompson, Whiteside, Brockman + we pick up two shooters.

I'll tell ya what the Kings need in free agency. Doug Christie and Jon Barry, circa 1999. Boom, championship.

Evans/Beno
Garcia/Evans/FA
Greene/Casspi
JT/Landry/Brockman
Dalembert/Cousins/Whiteside

I think this is a good defensive unit, so I go with that to start. I think Landry is a little better defender than JT, but JT is a better rebounder.
I think JT not starting may affect him mentally more, whereas Landry has proven himself effective off the bench.

Substitution pattern
Beno sub for Cisco, rotate Evans to SG
Landry sub for JT or Dalembert, rotate JT to Center if paired with Landry
Cousins sub for Dalembert or JT as Center
Casspi sub for Greene as needed

Brockman/Whiteside only in garbage time or for injured bigs or to shutdown Amare;)

C 6'11" Dalembert
PF 6'11" Cousins
SF 7'0" Whiteside
SG 6'11" Thompson
PG 6'11" Greene

Just to start and scare the poop out of whoever we meet in the first game of the first round of the playoffs. :p Then we could insert Reke after the first deadball.

There is really no reason not to do this.

On the other hand, we put Reke in at the 1 and simply leave Greene in to play the two (which he can defend tremendously), Whiteside to play the three, and we have the absolutely retarded and legitimate tallest lineup in the league that would be damn near impossible to score on. OMG am I dreaming?

Alright, I was trying to ignore it before. Cant take it anymore. No more 7aker references. All that stuff in the other thread about us needing a "derek fisher type" needs to stop too. They are toilet scum. They are lucky to breathe the air that we fart.

How about posting minutes for the rotations too. Show me how you fit brockman and whitside into the rotation.

Starting out this is what I would try and adjust it depending on who shows they are ready for more minutes.

PG: Evans (37), Beno (8)
SG: Garcia (25) Beno (20)
SF: Green (23), Casspi (22)
PF: Landry (25), JT (10) Whiteside (10)
C: Dalembert (20), JT (10) Cousins (15)

so for 3 min during the game will have nobody on the court??? lol

SG Rodriguez??? are we going to re-sign Sergio this off season?

Lineup to beat Fakers

Even if we don't make the playoff this coming season, a good goal is to destroy the Fakers. Here's my lineup for chopping down them fools.
Evans
Greene
Casspi
Whiteside
Cousins

This is the longest and most physical lineup. Lakers usually struggle when their opponent rebound and run well against them. Kobe is not going to get a shot off in the paint. I don't care if our bigs foul out. We are loaded with bigs on the bench.

I am not worried about our starting Guard, PF and C position-we really have good guys right now.
The biggest question mark for me are right now our outside shooters.
Casspi started the last season really strong but fell into a big hole and didnt seem to recover
Greene was playing as well very inconsistent, Cisco the same.

I really hope that Casspi and Greene will step up and fill in this critical spot.

Outside shooters are dime a dozen. We do need give Greene and Casspi a chance though. They have the ability and have to be able to shoot outside or they really can't play the 2 or 3 in this league. If we want to pick up a shooter on the cheap, pick up Jon Scheyer. IF we want to get the best, give Joe Johnson max contract.
