I dont see Dalembert and Landry in the future of this team ... why? I dont know I just dont imagine we will keep them around when we have young guys who can play the positions for cheaper ... not to mention we need to save money to resign our guys. So I imagine we will trade one or both of Dalembert/Landry at the deadline(or before the year) for a SG or capspace.
Dalembert, no. He'll be gone by the deadline; if not, he'll be gone next summer. No way we offer him another contract, unless he turns into an All Star, and still, you'd have to worry about the contract year boost. He's not a part of the team's future; never expected him to be with just one year left on his current deal and us having a chance to get Cousins or Favors in the draft.
Landry? That's a different story. I have to figure that the Kings liked Landry enough to trade Martin away for him, and knowing that they picked up his option for next season (cheap at $3 million, but still, they could have let him walk), I think they want to keep him. Adding Dalembert immediately put him back in his more effective bench role, and if Cousins is what we need him to be, that's where Landry would be going forward. He's not going to get a whole lot of attention in free agency, not from anyone needing a starting PF, because he's a bit small and he's not a good rebounder, as he proved in his time starting for us last season. So if he's going to be either playing out of position at SF (no indication that he either wants to do that or could do so effectively as a starter) or coming off the bench, why not come off the bench with a team that a) wants him, and b) is on the way up? I can't imagine that he'll be looking to break the bank, given his limitations, but he's worth a mid level type deal.
By the way, I really like Carl Landry. I think he is like a better version of Glen Davis, and we saw the boost he gave the Celtics in the Finals. He can play a solid role on a contender, even being a key piece in the playoffs. Sure, if the Lakers or the Magic or some other title contender needing an offensive-minded bench forward comes knocking with a five year MLE deal, we might lose him. But this offseason and the next are going to be really strange, given the free agent bonanza this year and the uncertain labor situation next year. The NFL has been unpredictable this offseason, with contract demands, holdouts, releases, and a bunch of stalemates in general. That's how I anticipate the NBA will be next summer. Maybe that will work in our favor if we want to keep Landry, which I hope we do.
