Sacramento being seriously vetted and other news, rumors, etc.

Which forum? Sonicsrising pretty much went from "when we get the Kings" to "I would be happy with an expansion". They know deep down they aren't getting the Kings. Not if they are in the process of vetting the new Kings owners.

I just looked at realgm, maybe the more active forums are different.

Back in the Arco days in the 90s we used to have a couple San Jose Shark games here a year which would all be total sellouts and standing room only. I went to them, and although I am not a fan of Hockey, I would probably become a fan if we got a team. Personally, I would have thought that the NHL would have gave us a team based on our attendance at the Sharks games. This would be a great Hockey town.

Exactly the opposite actually. Sacto is part of the market that keeps the Sharks strong, and given how many warm weather city failures the NHL has had I doubt they want to risk damaging one that has worked.

Stealing Stockton's team would just be cruel. What else does that city have going for it? During the lockout I sent my brothers to a couple of minor league games between Stockton and the new team playing in the Cow Palace though. And maybe the Cow Palace team (Sharks affiliate as I recall) might rather play in a brand new arena and have a little I-5 rivalry with Stockton. Question would be if the Kings would really want to deal with the inconvenience of having that floor/layout changed back and forth all the time during the season just for a minor league team.

When it came to myself and my family who attended most of those Sharks games, the only reason we were out there is to see a hockey game in person. We weren't a fan of any team per-se but if Sacramento ended up getting a team I would probably become a fan. I had assumed that a lot of others were there to just experience a hockey game as well and had little interest in the league as a whole. Hockey games are awesome in person, but crappy on TV for some reason.

Anyhow, I was still pretty young in the 90s so I don't really remember how many were Sharks fans vs people just wanting to see hockey in person but the place was full every time we went!

I have no doubt Sacramento could support a hockey team. Even a minor league hockey team would probably be supported as well as the Rivercats.

Hard to say if Raptors' parent hiring Tim Leiweke as CEO will matter in #NBAKings vote. But Lewieke championed Sacto arena while at AEG

Not sure if this will change anything but it is NOT bad news.

I love THIS tram:

I'm hoping CD is right and that all that remains is vetting and making sure the Sacramento group can do what they've promised.

As much as I love the Kings, I think I've gotten more attached to the notion of revitalizing downtown. I'm cautiously optimistic today.

Meh. That tram's getting a little old and crusty but with any luck, we'll be able to get new ones in a few years to match our brand new downtown.

Yeah, I know, it was just a joke.

As I live in south Sacramento County Sacramento and Stockton are pretty much equidistant for me to attend events. I like the Stockton Arena for what it is and they have done some nice renovation in the waterfront area. In fact, I was in the Stockton paper YEARS ago (at least a decade?) as I was drilling along the channel for seepage repairs and they took my photo (must have been a slow news day). I gave them a business card and they STILL butchered my name. How incompetent is that?

I found an owner worse than the Maloofs:

Miami Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria personally mandated the lineup card change that flip-flopped starting pitchers Jose Fernandez and Ricky Nolasco in a doubleheader Tuesday and left Marlins players furious with his continued meddling, three sources with knowledge of the situation told ........

Apr 2012 Maloofs suddenly back out of Sac Arena deal May 2012 Hansen says he has already spoken with NBA owner willing to sell

Dave Lack (Fireplug) ‏@DaveLack 1h

Looking like Virginia Beach Kings ploy wasn't about getting Sac to deal with Maloofs, but to get Hansen to sweeten his deal.

Dave Lack (Fireplug) ‏@DaveLack 1h

Nothing illegal, but I wonder if the NBA BOG considers that tempering if know Hansen was reason Maloofs backed out of NBA brokered deal.

Dave Lack (Fireplug) ‏@DaveLack 1h

Kind of destroys the "knight in shining armor" persona that Sea fans like to portray Hansen as if he swooped in to secretly kill Sac deal

Dave Lack (Fireplug) ‏@DaveLack 51m

The Maloofs are so nutty I half way expect, when Sac keeps Kings, George to announce he sabotaged BOG presentation on purpose so Sac won.

Hilarious.

Win or lose I think we can at least rejoice in the fact that in a few days a very small-hearted man will be forced to go peddle his treachery elsewhere.

I peeked I'm sorry....
Things seem pretty quiet today on d-bags rising.

I can't tell if you are talking about George Maloof or Chris Hansen... it equally applies to both.

Well, George of course. Hansen is more ruthless and Machiavellian than treacherous and small-hearted. I know it's a fine distinction, though.

Yah, conversation has moved to a "if we get the kings or an expansion" from a "who on the kings are we going to trade next year" :)

Makes me smile when I see that.

As we speak, there are very intricate & specific financial processes being vetted by the NBA on the Sacramento side. They are doing homework.

Don't let the quiet fool you. There is a dull roar of activity behind the scenes. The power players are all underground and locked in now.

Timelines, paths, backgrounds being verified and gone through with a fine-tooth comb. No stone is being left unturned. Take it how you

“@LLcoolRay14: @CarmichaelDave is there anything fans can do to help the city now?”

Give them shelter from the media spotlight.

I'd love to see the vetting as a sign, and not believe the Seattle group is being vetted the exact same way

I'm sure they already have. Their proposal was in a while ago. Now it is verifying that Sacramento's group is feasible. This is GOOD news. Means we are being taken seriously.

Was there a point when we thought we wouldn't be taken fully into account? Even if they reject us would they want to vet us just for PR purposes or to find holes in our plan? Its getting close to monday, I'm getting jumpy, and I want to see some definitive advantages over Seattle, just nervous

If they didn't see merit to the plan, it wouldn't have gotten past the April 3 presentations. The committees would have made their recommendations to the BoG at the April 18-19 meeting, and the Kings would already be headed to Seattle.

Would be the only team with a jersey retired for a player that has never played for us?

Let me rephrase, Would we be the only team that has never been employed by the team in any way or played for the team in any way that has had his jersey retired for said sports team?

Didn't the Heat retire MJ's number a couple years ago?

Crossing my fingers things keep progressing positively, go Sacramento! (minor league hockey would be a sweet add for this city too)

Agreed. All of this vetting would be a big waste of time and resources if there was no chance to keep the team. Time is money and you don't just throw it away.

I don't think there is anyone who believes we have no chance to keep the team. Personally I think there is a better than average (60/40) chance to keep the team, given how substantial a factor uprooting a team should be. I think the question, as far as some of CD's tweets is whether or not this extensive vetting now in of itself is an advantage over Seattle.. I'd love some good news, but am a bit cautious

My confidence comes in the fact that I believe the committee has essentially made a choice on who they are going to recommend. I think their preference was decided weeks ago. Remember that Stern said that both sides would have the opportunity to address the committee again after the April 3rd meeting. It never happened, and I think it's because they've made up their mind. If the choice was Seattle, this would all be over now as the vetting is complete. The committee could just make their recommendation as things stand.

Agreed. I think this is just the NBA doing what they need to to make sure keeping the Kings in Sacramento doesn't somehow blow up in their face. They want to make sure that we have all our ducks in a row before keeping the team here.

The New Orleans Hornets retired Pistol Pete's #7 even though he played for the New Orleans Jazz, a completely different franchise. And of course, all MLB teams retired Jackie Robinson's #42.

My confidence remains to be 100% intact from my last prediction about how this will all play out. After all factors are considered there is no viable reason to MOVE the Kings. We are after all talking about pulling a team from its market, by force, and giving the team to a different market. No possible way it happens.

Agree, not when we have (for all intents and purpose) the same offer, pretty much the same arena deal in place and a better fanbase. Been saying this for a couple months now but no way this move happens.
